As I splained on the old forum, we bought an apartment in a new building at a local retirement community.
It's been a good experience, though I think I'm more comfortable with it than is my wife.
When we moved in, there were periodic news stories about the outbreak of COVID in China. Those first few deaths in Washington state came a few months later.
The administration of the community was very assertive in taking control from the early days of the pandemic, instituting a quarantine long before government began to clamp down.
And, it's worked well. There were some deaths, but, actually, very few.
About the time Joe was proclaiming victory over COVID, our own restrictions were completely lifted.
Shortly thereafter, there was an outbreak among a section in nursing care, where people with the most compromised immune systems live. There were no deaths.
Then, just a few weeks ago, COVID reappeared throughout the whole community. And, it spread.
We've been traveling. We're in Maine now.
We got our weekly email Newsletter yesterday. It reported a number of deaths including the first in Independent Living.
We don't know who. It could have been our next door neighbor, who's not been well.
The Independent Living residents are the youngest, and generally the most healthy people in the community. And, they live in apartments and cottages, not in close proximity to others.
We talked to one member of the administration before we left. He said that, by that time, 80% of the recent cases are among people who have been vaxxed. We don't know about the deaths.
