Does Canada really have tariffs above 200% on US dairy products?
(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump has said that Canada has tariffs in place at above 200% on dairy products imported from the United States.

However, those Canadian tariffs on U.S. dairy imports apply only after the country hits a level of tariff-free sales. This is from a deal Trump negotiated in 2018 during his first term in office.

According to the International Dairy Foods Association, the U.S. has never gotten close to exceeding the dairy quotas in the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

My guess is that "if" what you say has any impact (which it doesn't look like it does) the impact will be very low. And given the energy, steel, and aluminum issues. If we don't hit the threshold, I don't really appreciate it being an issue if your source is correct. I also may have been a "throw away" from canada also. I know you expect all politicians to tell the truth to the media, but you need to learn what's between the lines. If this were pedojoe or obomber, it's still such a small part of the agreement that I'm not going to get hung up in the forest looking for a tree. This is interesting because you still refuse to believe DOJ has done anything wrong, when people got fired, and both the DOJ/FBI admitted guilt to congress and the media. And those are clearly illegal in many facets. So y'all are trying to charge trumpster, et.al., and still searching for charges. They conceded that in the CUSMA negotiations only because it was essential to a successful treaty. A deal breaker. We don't want them, and people who know don't buy the milk, and I don't see American cheese or butter in the stores. The reason is the very valid one that American milk contains a growth hormone fed to the cattle that is prohibited in Canada. It causes illnesses in humans. If the US wants to export more to Canada, it should stop using it to force growth in cows. Sensible Americans would demand it regardless of trade. by oldedude on March 13, 2025 2:52 pm I agree fully. That's one of the things trumpster is trying to do, so give it 5 years before it goes through congress. We've had decades of lobbyists (in essence) bribing politicians to keep that in our food. Just a few of the side effects are; cancers, juvenile obesity, dementia, Parkinson's, fetal organ growth, etc. The foods that my parents grew up with are more like what you and europe have. To get "organic" is a crapshoot at best here. But it's a better chance it's closer to the canadian version of food. Hormones in the milk, beef, chicken, eggs, lamb. Horrible insecticides in (especially) root veggies, apples, etc. Just a heads up to most of the folks here. In doing chemical testing for chemical agents, insecticides show as nerve agents.
