Among the 34 largest U.S. metro areas surveyed, the Portland-Vancouver region stands out as the only place where nonreligious people outnumber Christians, according to the Pew Research Center’s 2023-24 Religious Landscape Study.

Surveying more than 35,000 Americans across all 50 states, the study provides a detailed analysis of religious affiliation and spiritual practices nationwide.

This regional trend mirrors Oregon’s broader religious landscape, where the number of Christians and nonreligious people is about the same, 45%.

    So, you're a Christophobe.

It's a good thing that, say, Martin Luther King, Jr wasn't. Eh? Or, all those anti-slavery, underground railroad Christian wackos were in the 1800s.

I'm no fan of th institutionalized church but Jesus? Christianity? I don't hate that.

This doesn't sound too far off for me. Even in the territorial days, Oregon was xenophobic. I was actually a little shocked the libs would "allow" such blasphemy in their state. I would think the white folk would have burned down the printers for saying such things. Remember, if'n y'all don't look like us, or believe like us, you're not a real human!

You have to remember that Oregon began as a whites-only state, through a series of Black exclusionary laws that were designed to discourage Black Americans from living here in the first place.[1]

The Negro Motorist Green Book, known as simply the Green Book,
was a guidebook for African American road trippers published from 1936 to
1966. Black travelers faced hardships including white-owned businesses
refusing to provide accommodations, food, or car repair. They also endured
threats of physical violence, and forcible expulsion from whites-only “sundown
    towns.” [2]

In the 1920’s, the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) had successfully established the largest chapter west of the Mississippi. The KKK was active in Ashland as
well as Medford and Portland in the 1920s.[2]

In 1950, a Black woman named Patricia Norman was the Oregon
Shakespeare Festival's first Black company member when she was cast in a
production of The Company of Errors. Due to Ashland's sundown town status,
Norman was unable to find a place to stay over the summer and had to stay in
a dorm at Southern Oregon College. Norman had to be escorted to and from
the theater by bodyguards from the company for her own protection that, at
times, became precarious due to the hostility of local residents.

Even as recently as 2021, (mostly) women were still requiring escort into the Ashland area because of credible death threats.[2]

Other general support for the first two citations [3], [4], including a booklet by the Oregon State Government recognizing the inclusive history of xenophobic activity in the state.

    I'm not surprised, OD.

Since 10/7, it's become stunningly apparent that many progressives are bigots, and unashamedly so.

No one asked, but I'd be cool if all you Jesus freaks fell into the ocean. The Pacific, please, I live on the east coast.

Yeah, we've talked about this before.

FYI- the KKK has a lot of East Coast affiliates🤔. And they're not only racist, but homophobic and transphobic also🤣.
