A headline in the New York Times yesterday was "Trump Brazenly Defies Laws in Escalating Executive Power Grab".
The subhead was "In the radical opening weeks of his second term, President Trump has appeared to feel little constraint by any need to show respect for the rule of law".
Here is the the Times' list of examples of Trump defying legal and constitutional limits.
1. Opted not to enforce TikTok ban.
2. Froze foreign aid program.
3. Froze $3 trillion in domestic grants.
4. Moved to dismantle USAID.
5. Fired 17 inspectors general.
6. Fired Democratic member of NLRB.
7. Fired federal prosecutors.
8. Challenged birthright citizenship.
MAGA and fans of authoritarianism may applaud the above actions. Regardless whether you are cheering or booing Trump, his administration is facing a bevy of lawsuits while court injunctions that are stymieing his efforts. Within the last hour it was reported that a federal judge in Massachusetts has stopped, at least temporarily, the Trump administration’s effort to get federal employees to leave their jobs by accepting delayed resignation offers.
