Yes, I know that reporters are focusing on Trump's suggestion (threat?) to remain in office past his term if were to be re-elected. I am more aghast by his lack of historical knowledge. I don't expect a president to be a Jeopardy contestant, but a good president would have studied past presidents and their challenges. Trump would be well served had he followed Roosevelt's example instead of Adolf Hitler's (see ABC News link)

(NY Post)Former President Donald Trump stirred up his detractors Saturday by openly musing about a third term as president during remarks at the National Rifle Association annual meeting.

“You know, FDR 16 years — almost 16 years — he was four terms. I don’t know, are we going to be considered three-term? Or two-term?” Trump asked.

I am being a bit of an American history nerd here, but how is it that Trump doesn't know that FDR was elected four times but did not serve anywhere near 16 years or four complete terms. He was president for 12 years and two and half months.

Trump is unaware and ignorant of history. He doesn't seem to care about his own place in history. That is his and America's problem.

I'll bet "the orange turd" doesn't even know that the Former Trucker started a civil rights movement.

Peebs it doesn't concern you at all that Trump doesn't know the very basics of American history?

  3. by HatetheSwamp on May 20, 2024 12:31 am

Yes. But not as much as it does that "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" claims that he was raised in black churches and Jewish synagogues and that he started a Civil Rights movement. "No joke."

    HatetheSwamp, man!

Hasn't anyone here heard about the 22nd Amendment?

  5. by Curt_Anderson on May 20, 2024 8:35 am
Yes, we know the 22nd Amendment. An authoritarian like Donald Trump and his willing MAGA minions don’t care about it and other niceties of the US Constitution.

    Baha.

What must it be like tp have "the orange turd" alive in your brain!

They played that clip on FOX AND FRIENDS this morning then mentioned an interview in which Trump noted that he's perfectly aware of the 22nd Amendment and has no interest in anything beyond four more years... as the "dithering and diminished" Doddering Old Fool would add, "Pause."

Trump is joshin. What's unclear is if you are.

I think that moderate and independent common sense voters get the joke, though.

Everybody here has. Trump is the one who apparently hasn't. BTW, I would actually like it if he tried to stay in office afterwards - it would be fun to see the military forcibly remove him.

    HtS,
Trump was joshin’ when he said FDR served almost 16 years? I don’t get it, please explain.

    Curt,

As Joe says, "Poor kids are just as bright and just and talented as white kids."

    But, apparently, you ain't.
