I hope their presentation will show not tell. That is, the viewers should be able to experience the insurrection through actions, words, thoughts, senses, and feelings rather than through the presenters' exposition, summarization, and description. Reports suggest it won't be a dry recitation of evidence like Robert Mueller's.

Also this should make two types of cases: a legal case for Merrick Garland and Department of Justice and state level investigations like the grand jury in Georgia. They also should make a case for the court of public opinion so that decent people of all political stripes will realize that an attack on democracy occurred and that all of America was wronged and endangered.

Finally, I hope the presentation will be methodical and lead to a dramatic conclusion. First establish that a crime happened. Then proceed through the various levels of perpetrators and enablers culminating with an indictment of Trump himself. I am not expecting a Perry Mason moment where in the last few minutes Donald Trump breaks down on the stand and confesses. But I would like some courtroom-style drama.

Okay, gang, I'm watching it on Fox Business via YouTube while the TV is showing AFTER THE FIRST 48 on A & E.

It's coming across like watching C-SPAN, which I do watch, but I don't think most people ever do.

Liz Cheney is coming across as a substandard talking head in a small market.

    I'm bored.

I just can’t see people caring a lot and certainly not enough for people to stick with it until the case is made.

I'm curious. Is anyone here groovin on it?

  2. by HatetheSwamp on June 9, 2022 5:37 pm

Heck! Liz is more boring that the Former Truck Driver.

  3. by Curt_Anderson on June 9, 2022 6:18 pm
    What I didn't know:

Jason Miller said Trump's data people analyzing election results told Trump he lost, irrefutably.

Liz Cheney said the Justice Department is running a parallel criminal investigation, which involves cooperating witnesses, and that prosecutors have so far revealed very little about what they’ve learned.

Trump's daughter testified that she accepted Bill Bahr's assessment that it was "bullshit" that the election was rigged.

  4. by Curt_Anderson on June 9, 2022 6:31 pm
Gen. Millie testified that Pence tried to do what Trump wouldn't do: call in military reinforcements to defend Congress.

  5. by HatetheSwamp on June 9, 2022 7:03 pm

IMHO, not much there there. Very, very little I didn't know.

  6. by Curt_Anderson on June 9, 2022 7:22 pm
Officer Edwards' testimony was compelling. She was knock unconscious got back up and re-entered the fray which she described as hours of hand-to-hand combat. The video showed her struggle and being knocked out. She was also pepper-sprayed.

The documentarian Quested said the Proud Boys left the Ellipse before Trump spoke to case the Congressional building to find it's most vulnerable entrance. One of the Proud Boys (or maybe Oath Keepers) leaders said they were disappointed when Trump didn't walk to the Capitol as Trump said he would.

  7. by Curt_Anderson on June 9, 2022 7:32 pm
    HtS,
Did you know that some House Republicans sought presidential pardons from Trump in the days after Jan. 6? They didn't name them...yet. Watch the next exciting episode! I suspect Jim Jordan was one of them.

  8. by Donna on June 9, 2022 9:20 pm
Officer Edwards should receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The presentation was beyond my expectations. I'm very impressed. Looking forward to the rest.

  9. by Curt_Anderson on June 9, 2022 10:29 pm
    Donna,
Did you think that Bill Barr might have lost some of the audience with his use of legal jargon such as "bullshit," "nonsense" and "crazy stuff" to refute Trump's claims of rigged voting machines, voter fraud, et cetera?

  10. by Donna on June 9, 2022 10:34 pm
What an odd question. I have no idea. It didn't bother me. I like to hear exactly what people said.

    Did it bother you?

  11. by Curt_Anderson on June 9, 2022 10:43 pm
    Donna,
I was trying to make a sarcastic joke as if that "fancy, highfalutin' lawyer lingo" was too complicated for some viewers. Although apparently it went over Trump's head as he still is claiming the election was stolen.

I was quite happy with Barr's comments.

  12. by Donna on June 9, 2022 10:48 pm
I guess it went over my head too. My bad. I can be a little slow sometimes.

It makes me sad that anyone could watch what was presented and still vote for Trump. It's like a great darkness has come over our country. I find it all very disturbing.

  13. by HatetheSwamp on June 10, 2022 3:37 am

    Curt and Donna,

Do you even follow the news? With the exception of a few details, this was all old stuff! Did you honestly not know almost all of this?

And, Liz Cheney reading a teleprompter? That's exciting? C'mon man. Gimme a break!

Back during the Derek Chauvin trial...when the prosecution was still finishing its case...po was calling for his blood and I noted that po would be first person here to join a lynch mob. I believe that po'd be first but, clearly, you two would join her before long.

So? A few people in Trump's sphere believed that there was no substantial fraud in the election? Duh!

And, Bill Barr was one of them? You two need to listen to that Gay Guy Curt's never heard of. Bahahahahahahahahahaha.

There's no there there, that's what pb says.

Since there was virtually nuthin new in this extravaganza, what was the point?

As I watched, I was asking myself, "Who's the intended audience for this show?"

The moms and dads who'd normally tune in LAW AND ORDER reruns? Was the Committee thinking John Doe'd snap on NBC and say, "Honey! Hurry! Look! Liz Cheney's sitting in front of a flag, reading a teleprompter! You've got to see this!"

Please splain to pb. I don't understand. Was this supposed to inspire people who barely cared a year and a half ago when gas is $5.00/gallon, baby formula has disappeared, grocery aisles are empty and inflation is at 40 year highs?

    Bahahahahahahahahahaha, ahhhhhhhhhhh.

  14. by Donna on June 10, 2022 7:35 am
Well if you knew everything then what are you getting so wound up about?

Does anyone else here understand what the straight bald guy from Pennsylvania who hates the swamp is getting in a tizzy over?

I and I'm sure Curt and islander knew pretty much everything too. Something I didn't know about, though, was what Officer Edwards went through fending off those low-lifes, as well as some details about the Proud Boys that were presented by the documentary producer. It was also good to see AG Barr and Ivanka say the things I had previously only read about.

At any rate, it was good seeing the entire sorry episode in American history presented as the planned coup it was, and I'm sure that it was a learning experience for people who weren't very informed about the coup attempt.

If you didn't know that sort of thing happened many times over on January 6, why don't you try watching some damn reliable news!

I'm sorry, Donna, but many of the trials of the Proud Boys are already in the books!

Testimony has been given...under oath. Many of those psychos have already been convicted.

Absolutely. Those videos were compelling. And, I hadn't seen that stuff before. But, if you didn't already know how evil the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers are, it's on you.

Here's my theory about that. You focused so narrowly on OrangeMan, that the actual truth about that horrible day never made its way to your attention.

  16. by Donna on June 10, 2022 8:06 am
I had akready seen a tremendous amount of footage of the insurrection in all its horribleness. Your admission that you hadn't seen it explains to me why you downplayed it.

Good grief, straight blad white guy who hates the swamp, why don't you watch some damned news for a change? What the hell is wrong with you? How could you not have seen footage of the insurrection? Unless you purposely avoided it.

  17. by HatetheSwamp on June 10, 2022 8:16 am

Your the one who didn't know about what happened to Officer Edward's.

In fact, I saw unarmed white woman Ashli Babbitt die on camera!

I saw lots, more than I wanted to see.

  18. by islander on June 10, 2022 8:41 am

Donna-It’s going to take me a while to really process what I saw last night. Right now my mind goes numb when I try to respond to the deniers like Hate. It blows my mind that after all this time he had never even watched any of the videos of the horrible violence that took place that day. These new videos only made the intense horror of it more clear. I have a few “still Trump supporting” relatives who absolutely refused to watch the hearings last night and it’s frustrating to try to talk to them about what took place that day on Jan. 6th. And yes, they “still” believe the election was stolen.

I too had read about Barr saying the claim that the election was stolen was “bullshit” but to actually see and hear him say it was much more powerful.

And Liz Cheney did a wonderful job, she only increased my respect for her. She is the personification of what a sincere and genuine Republican was from way-back when. Long before the party before the party turned into the polluted and corrupt mess that it is now. Back when the GOP stood for the Grand Old Party.

  19. by Curt_Anderson on June 10, 2022 9:19 am
I mentioned in my opening post that one of my hopes was that the committee would make a case for the court of public opinion. Officer Edwards and General Mark Milley made a good case that Trump was guilty of deriliction of duty and being AWOL in making no effort to quell the insurrection.

  20. by Ponderer on June 10, 2022 12:07 pm

"Here's my theory about that. You focused so narrowly on OrangeMan, that the actual truth about that horrible day never made its way to your attention. " -Hate

    Here's my theory about you...

You are so focused on your adamant, indestructible, and totally baseless belief that your Orange Messiah was cheated out of his god-given reelection that no amount of proof or evidence will ever get you to admit how absolutely wrong and deluded you've been all this time.

Your ego will simply not allow such a blow to its solar-plexus to ever take place. The actual truth about that day doesn't matter a fucking damn to you. You are refusing to look at it for what it actually is, even when it is right there in front of your face with flashing lights and sirens.

You are happy to delude yourself into believing a reality that Donald Trump pulled entirely out of his ass. And you will forever have it no other way.

  21. by Ponderer on June 10, 2022 12:21 pm

"In fact, I saw unarmed white woman Ashli Babbitt die on camera!" -Hate

I actually tuned into Fox late last night just to see how they were covering it afterwards. I tuned in just as they were talking about how Lindsey Graham was complaining at the time of the insurrection that the cops weren't just shooting people. And Tucker brought it up as if Lindsey had made a tremendous point that highlighted the police "inaction" and other mistakes that they supposedly made that day.

Not even a minute later, Tucker was decrying how the hearings didn't even bring up anything about that poor "unarmed white woman" who was killed that day by the police. He guessed that her life didn't matter at all to the committee, or to those police... who he just agreed should have just been shooting people that were doing what she was doing.

You blithering, babbling, flaming hypocrites haven't got a freaking clue as to how stupid, asinine and totally illogical you come off when trying to support and defend your criminal heroes and their actions.

  22. by HatetheSwamp on June 10, 2022 3:07 pm

    Curt,

I think she was impressive. Americans who are not whacked Blue MAGAs don't want to defund or defame police and support and sympathize with them.

I thought the first half hour was disappointing. As much as I am a news junkie, I was bored. My guess is that many not already interested gave up.

  23. by islander on June 11, 2022 4:22 am

"My guess is that many not already interested gave up."

My guess is that most people who aren't interested never bothered to watch it.

Do you know the percentage of people who weren't interested but watched it anyway and then gave up?

Not that it makes any difference to anything but some people might find it an interesting bit of trivia.

  24. by HatetheSwamp on June 11, 2022 4:48 am

    isle,

My point is that it appears to me that the purpose of holding the Show Trial in Prime Time was to increase the number of people who care about what happened on January 6, to convince them that Trump and the GOPs committed crimes and to generate popular support for the actions they'll eventually propose to punish Trump and the GOPs.

To begin with Liz Cheney on camera for a half hour reading off a teleprompter was bad TV.

  25. by islander on June 11, 2022 6:47 am

I know you and yours would prefer to have as few people as possible see and hear the evidence and naturally we all know why.

And one of the Republicans on the committee, Liz Cheney, did a splendid job with her opening statements !!

  26. by Ponderer on June 11, 2022 8:19 am

Hate and his side are so averse to and unfamiliar with the entire concepts of truth and reality that they are simply oblivious to the vital need most Americans have to find out what they are in this case. The historical need and significance for what happened to be thoroughly investigated and made public is totally lost on them.

One need only compare the Republicans' melodramatic apoplexy in their years-long hearings into Hillary Clinton and her emails and Benghazi to their total disdain and blowing off of these hearings and Trump's two impeachments to demonstrably prove just how despised the truth is to them if it doesn't suit and facilitate their aims.

The only thing that is important to them about anything is how much it can help them or how they can distort it into something they can use for their benefit.

Hate lost interest in the hearing because exposing himself to that much truth and reality makes him look even more like a jibbering jabbering brain-dead moron for the last year and a half than he generally does. It just wasn't a sustainable thing for him to do.

The cognizant dissonance and suffering that he must have experienced was surely akin to how Guantanamo prisoners felt with death metal music being piped into their cells at a hundred and twenty decibels for days on end. You can't expect him to sit and intently watch something for very long that exposes and details what a stupid, deluded, willfully gullible idiot he has been for the last year and a half without quickly losing interest.

Nothing would make him and the Republicans and Fox happier than if this was all swept under the rug. Which they are in a panic to do right now. Fox even eliminated commercials during their programming while the hearings were on to keep their eye-glazed zombie audience from popping over to the hearings during the ads to see what was happening. They sacrificed hours of precious prime time ad revenue just to keep some in their cult from even briefly glimpsing the reality beyond their Temple of Flaming Bullshit.

Republicans are already trying to set up the narrative that people don't care about the fact that their next presidential candidate literally threw law and order and our very Constitution in the toilet in his attempted coup to destroy our quarter-millennium long foundation of representative democracy just to install himself as the authoritarian emperor of a one-party dictatorship.

But people do care. A pretty huge portion of the country, and even the world, tuned in to watch history being documented. Such things matter to them. Many people do actually care about this country and its continuation under our Constitution. Republicans like Hate couldn't give a flying rat's fuck about the Constitution or our democracy if it can't deliver what they want from it.

Donald Trump was not only the most criminal excuse for a president this country has ever had. He is also the most Republican Republican who ever walked this Earth. He is a living caricature, a hyper-stereotype of precisely what being a Republican in 2022 is. Trump is even more like they are than they are.

This is why Hate loves him so much and defends him at every opportunity. His puny, pathetic, and laughably understated claims of Trump being despicable are absolutely blown away by his constant and unwavering defense of his Glorious Golden God of a leader and the organized crime party that his tiny orange hands have polluted into the putrescent amalgamation of immoral, sociopathic, cowardly, self-centered, whining, hypocritical toadies that it is today.

My god. I mean look at the absolutely ludicrous and asinine delusions he has worked himself into believing about Biden and the Democrats. All to justify, in his own mind, that he is better off defending and voting for someone he knows for a fact is a despicable, monstrous, criminal psychopath than even considering ANY Democrat. He dutifully promulgates any lie about them he comes across. He has no real mind of his own anymore. He plugged it into a receptacle wired directly to Fox and it literally does all his thinking for him now.

Wanna know what Fox is saying? Read a post of Hate's anytime to get an up to the date reporting of it. Works every time.

  27. by Ponderer on June 11, 2022 8:24 am

I agree, Isle. Liz did a really great job.

Hate didn't like her because of what she was saying. Not how she was saying it.

All he was hearing was Megadeath played at 120 decibels.
