US Supreme Court temporarily blocks order to return migrant deported to El Salvador in error
Honestly, what this means is "stop for now, and we'll get to it." There is no change for those TPS members of the panican* party who are already seething. Everyone has to stay in place. Apparently, the administration gave SCOTUS enough evidence to keep Kilmar Abrego Garcia in El Salvador until they can hear both sides of the case.
Chief Justice John Roberts, acting on behalf of the court, paused the order by U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis that the administration return Garcia by the end of Monday, in response to a lawsuit filed by the man and his family challenging the legality of his deportation. That's a "semi win" for both sides. Again, it's not a final decision.
We've already gone through the law (twice) so before princess starts whining, I'll just say that the law is pretty clear. There is the president's "authority" to deport if there are reasons. I think there's going to be two decisions for SCOTUS. First. Is the law constitutional. Obviously, it's already been run through the ringer. And there could be a different ruling.
Second. Can the president be overridden by the court.
*The panican party is the party of "what ifs" and pants on fire over reaction and panic. Stuff like "Trump crashes our economy to help his cronies" or "Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is eager to replace cheap foreign labor with cheaper American robotic labor"
