A female fencer was disqualified from a competition for refusing to compete against a transgender opponent, USA Fencing said in a statement to ABC News on Thursday.

The incident occurred last month at a USA Fencing-sanctioned regional tournament where fencer Stephanie Turner decided to remove her mask and take a knee instead of competing against Redmond Sullivan, a transgender woman.

Prior to that, age 20 fencer Sullivan ranked 48th out of 50 in a Division I women’s foil event and 31st out 36th in a division II event and last year, Sullivan was competing for the men’s team and 29th in a men’s foil event. This is an example of people switching parties in the past presidential election because their agenda is disliked by so many voters. Turner, a longtime Democrat, says she voted for former President Donald Trump in November’s election because of his campaign promise to ban transgender athletes in women’s sports.
