I read this morning, I think on MSN, that if the tariffs remain in place, it will cost Texas 370,000 jobs and $46 billion annual loss of GDP. That is because Mexico is its largest trading partner with about $123 billion annual imports form there. Second is Canada with much less but substantial amounts.

Well, the Mexicans are on their way to getting rid of the tariffs. The canadians? notsomuch... I'm not a big fan of tariffs, especially the way it was done, and it's getting pretty much the result he wanted. We'll see.

I heard the hospitality industry is expecting a big drop off in international tourism to the tune of billions of dollars. States like Florida will feel the brunt of it.

Well we also have a huge number of "northlanders" that own property here. They'll be down. Americans? They're here in droves. Mostly from blue states to escape the crime and the other crap from your state to the "free state of FL." That's why they're here. They come from NY, NJ, IL, CO, CA to live free. Honestly, most are retirees that are making twice the money I am and living in a tax-free state that appreciates their money, and not over-taxed by a state with a bunch of racist history (like OR).

And honestly, they may come here to escape the tariffs. They still get their Rx through the "canadian stores" and their medical bills are half of what they'd pay for specialists. And their booze (which is a big cost to them) is still about half of what they pay.

There don't seem to be any official figures yet but I have seen estimates of 25% of Canadians cancelling their Florida visits. Long term 'snowbirds' and short term visitors. There have been many reports of forfeited deposits to travel agents. Real estate agents in Florida are snowed under with Canadians putting their winter homes up for sale.
