Well it was just a matter of time before the hate reached this level of blithering pig-ignorance.
MAGA Hats here, Sloat, olde dude... Please tell me who would be "protected" by this? Who is harmed if this doesn't become law? Why is this law needed? What possible difference could it make to the government at all? Because it was never a problem in any way whatsoever before now in any state in the Union.
Texas Republican proposes jail time for identifying as transgender
“Gender identity fraud” could bring up to two years in jail under a bill by Rep. Tom Oliverson.
AUSTIN — A Texas Republican has filed a bill that would criminalize transgender people who mislead the government or an employer by stating their gender identity as their biological sex.
House Bill 3817 would create a criminal penalty for “gender identity fraud,” making it a state jail felony to make a false or misleading statement misidentifying one’s biological sex to a governmental entity or an employer.
A state jail felony can be punished with six months to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.
Rep. Tom Oliverson, R-Cypress — a former candidate for House speaker — filed the bill last week. It is among dozens of proposals in the Legislature that would affect the state’s estimated transgender population of 120,000 people. Friday is the deadline for most bills to be filed this session.

I can think of one case in which I'd like that law to be applied. They both should be jail for perpetrating fraud.

No. If it were this administration would be in real trouble.

I can't see this becoming law but the tide has turned. Biology is a science again.
by oldedude on March 14, 2025 3:28 pm I think a "law" is dumb. A mistake is human and not to be charged either. So if I call someone sir, that just started transition to "ma'am", I don't want my house burned down and dog killed. Of course, I live in FL and there's 100meters all around my house,...
That's the biggest problem I have with the whole thing.

""False or misleading statement."
That's fraud, ain't?" -Sloat
A woman going around, filling out government documents using her husband's last name when that's not the name on her birth certificate is providing false and misleading statements on government forms. That's certainly fraud. Ain't it not?
In fact, it's so fraudulent that Republicans want women whose names are different than what's on their birth certificates will have to have to go through extra hell to prove they are who they are just to vote.
I certainly hope that your wife isn't committing this type of fraud, Sloat. factcheck.org

Isn't his obfuscation adorable when he knows that he can't come up with a cogent response?
by oldedude on March 15, 2025 7:38 am This is a perfect example of one of your classic po "do you still beat your wife" passive-aggressive questions. For one, I was trying to tell you how I thought it would backfire on the district, and in the long term I/you/we would actually win. Apparently you can't stand it when Lead and I agree with you. So it turned into you didn't have control of the situation and freaked out as usual.
by Ponderer on March 15, 2025 7:46 am
olde dude, I don't need to argue with you if you agree with me. I appreciate your intelligence for understanding that it's a dumb law. Thank you for that. And there is no "freaking out" going on for my part. I don't even know what you must be basing that on.
by Ponderer on March 15, 2025 8:13 am
And Hate doesn't think it's a dumb law, whatever he says. If this law was to pass, he'll be giddily shoving it in my and Donna's faces and he knows it.
by oldedude on March 15, 2025 8:23 amIn fact, it's so fraudulent that Republicans want women whose names are different than what's on their birth certificates will have to have to go through extra hell to prove they are who they are just to vote.
Sounds like you've never been married. In order to change your name, it's registered with a county (marriage certificate, order of a court, etc, and in most cases, every county I've known for the past 10+ years has also changed your voter information.
Case in point. My daughter in law, was a Russian green card holder. She had also been married prior to this marriage (and chose to earn her own US citizenship). So she had three names on the books. She chose her father's family name to go by. When she became a citizen, all that information was in the court documents from a federal judge. That's the toughest you're going to find for a citizen of the US. She got her paperwork from immigration declaring her a citizen and took it to the county. The immigration paperwork was as good as the Russian birth certificate (that no one in the county could read). She got her driver's license changed over, and they automatically signed her up to vote. So. IF YOU"RE A CITIZEN IT'S EASY.
po on level 1 "answers" freaking out. There is no violent speak (level 2 of 5), or much cursing about how stupid the other person is that disagrees with her.
Isn't his obfuscation adorable when he knows that he can't come up with a cogent response?
For the life of me, I will never understand why you believe that doubling-down on a ridiculously wrong assertion somehow makes it less ridiculously wrong.
But then, you're a stupid moron. So, logic has nothing to do with you.

I know how a legal name change works. I've gone all through it myself. But all of what you mention does not change one's birth certificate. That is a whole separate kettle of fish. Many married women never bothered to go through all the legal hoo-hah. Tens of millions I would wager.
If this bill passes to law, women who have never needed to go through all that will find it difficult to vote if their birth certificate does not match the name they have used for years. Your daughter in law is nowhere near representative of the women that I am talking about.
And you still apparently don't know what the phrase "freaking out" means.

"And Hate doesn't think it's a dumb law, whatever he says. If this law was to pass, he'll be giddily shoving it in my and Donna's faces and he knows it."
What pb thinks is that the tide has turned and that biological truth matters... again. I seriously doubt that this bill will pass, even in Texas, but, in ten years?, it may prove to be ahead of its time.
Trump picked up millions of votes among black and Hispanic men and white bros precisely because he ran those "Kamala Harris is for they/them" ads. And, he's running DC because of it. Kammy had no answer for the ads. Unless Dems can come up with an answer by 026 and 028, this bill may be the prototype for laws in a few dozen states, whether you and I like it or not.
And, claiming that Gender Science Trumps biology ain't gunna do it anymore.
by oldedude on March 15, 2025 1:06 pmI know how a legal name change works. I've gone all through it myself. But all of what you mention does not change one's birth certificate. That is a whole separate kettle of fish. Many married women never bothered to go through all the legal hoo-hah. Tens of millions I would wager.
I don't know one that hasn't. My question is: why did you? What were the reasons you kept up on your ID, and think "Tens of millions" wouldn't? Are they too stupid to get a free ID? Again, you can't get a bank account, or use any "monetary device." like an apartment, get a house, a car, collect welfare, Medicaid, Medicare, have insurance, get a job, etcetcetc. So "Tens of millions" (of voting age women) is just a stupid idea.
That's a complete straw man (meaning stupid) argument. It actually has no relevancy, because in most countries you can't change a "birth certificate" per se. And there has to be references to it in the county/state computers.
Regardless of the state, name changes, if they're actually legal, have to be registered. End of conversation. You should have told me what you thought a long time ago. I wouldn't have wasted my time on that inane "argument."
You're still thinking the Mexicans are like the 1960's westerns. It's not. They actually have better control of their voting than the US. And the rest of central and south America. They're all just a bunch of tribes like the Tarzan movies (starring Gordon Griffith), right? So basically Mexicans are just stupid peons without electricity. That's really racist.
by meagain on March 15, 2025 2:17 pm Gender science does not trump biology" It is biology. My daughter-in-law is a biologist: a Stanford MA. She thinks that the pushback of right-wing interests is just foolish ignorance and anti-sceince. That is even more complicated than what is in the public debate.
by HatetheSwamp on March 15, 2025 2:21 pm
Biology is the equivalent of astronomy. Gender Science is astrology.
