This is what I was hoping would happen when I wrote that I won't be protesting Trump and that it's up to disenchanted Trump voters to feel the pain and to raise a ruckus

I understand your sense of righteousness. But I would caution that one of the reasons that people voted for Trump is they didn't like elite liberals sneering at them. The goal should be welcoming them into the fold, not humiliating them for past voting decisions.

Absolutely, ROB3RT.
When we were at the huge proteat at the Tesla dealership in Tucson yesterday where some 1,300 people attended, it was at one of the busiest intersections in the city.
Given how so many Americans don't follow politics, I'm sure that many of the passers by wondered what the protest was about and later read about it. That's why it's so important to hold these protests.
by Curt_Anderson on March 2, 2025 1:16 pm I certainly won't inhibit anybody, Democrat or not, from exercising their First Amendment rights. I would caution anti-Trump protesters not to alienate voters by illegally blocking traffic and engaging in other annoyances. Any anti-Trump protests should be about issues that negatively impact both Republicans and Democrats---not the so-called "woke" issues.
My sense is that pitchfork wielding rural and other conservative constituents giving their Republican representatives an angry ear-full at town halls is more effective in influencing members of Congress than urban and liberal protests.
by Donna on March 2, 2025 2:06 pm
Right, but I'm sure that we're often the ones who influence trump voters to join our ranks.
Btw, yesterday, I didn't see even one person block traffic or break any laws. In fact, the organizers, Indivisible, had a people there who were in charge of keeping everything civil, not that that was probably needed, though, because the 1,300-some attendees were mostly people over 50, who tend to be more mature and law-abiding.

Vance family moved to ‘undisclosed location’ after hundreds of pro-Ukraine protesters swarm ski resort ahead of vacation
Vance and his family were greeted by hundreds of outraged protesters lining the snow-covered streets while visiting Sugarbush Resort in Waitsfield but were forced to cut their four-day trip short after seeing the intensity of the protests.
Protestors displayed signs that labeled Vance a “national disgrace,” accused him of being a “traitor” and encouraged the family to “go ski in Russia.”

There was actually an old guy who was out in the street trying to goad people into blocking the intersection. He had a whole line about how it was legal speech and blah blah blah.
There were no takers. Didn't happen the whole time.
It's really kind of neat when they show on the news different cities that were having similar protests, and there's Tucson on the split screen of the very corner we were standing on. The whole hour we were there literally engorged my soul with hope. I saw almost no young people at all, though. Which was kinda sad.
Our best friend moved here from Southern California a couple days ago. She hired a college kid to help her with the unpacking and moving stuff. Really nice kid, going to the university here. Seemed pretty bright. When asked what he thinks about all the recent goings-on, he said, "Oh, I don't really follow politics much at all."
Kinda sad indeed.
by Curt_Anderson on March 2, 2025 11:20 pm Interesting, Donna. Good on the ungoadable protestors.
As for the college kid, maybe he was apathetic or maybe he was reluctant to expose his politics to an employer. Likely it was the former though. Young voters are less likely to vote than older voters.
