Gabbard secured confirmation on a 52-48 vote. In her new role, Gabbard will oversee the 18 agencies within the U.S. Intelligence community, serving as the president's top adviser on intelligence matters.

Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., said on social media after the vote that Gabbard would be sworn in at the White House Wednesday afternoon.

Before joining the Trump administration, Gabbard, who was born in American Samoa and raised in Hawaii, represented Hawaii in the U.S. House as a Democrat for four terms from 2013 to 2021. She ran for president as a Democrat but left the party in 2022 and changed her affiliation to Republican when she began campaigning for Trump last fall. She is a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve who served in Iraq.

Former Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, the only Republican to vote against Gabbard's confirmation, said in a statement that Gabbard was not ready for the job.

"In my assessment, Tulsi Gabbard failed to demonstrate that she is prepared to assume this tremendous national trust," McConnell said. “The nation should not have to worry that the intelligence assessments the President receives are tainted by a Director of National Intelligence with a history of alarming lapses in judgment."

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeha!

Congrats to Tulsi. Now we'll finally get to see where she really stands on things. Settle the debate.

Meanwhile, didn't Moscow Mitch say he was going to retire? Oh wait... MAGAt. Liars gonna lie.

Most of the time we don’t know how well these Senate confirmed office holders are doing until something goes wrong. If under Tulsi Gabbard’s watch there is an intelligence failure like a 911 we will know. However, if we lose our intelligence operatives overseas due to her, we may never know.

Indy, McConnell said he would step down from the Senate majority leader position, and that he would not run for reelection. I believe his term ends in 2026.

    Indy,

C'mon man, give Mitch a break! At the end of his term (if he lasts that long.)

I don't remember anyone blaming the national intelligence director for 9/11, Curt. I remember the head of the CIA (his name escapes me now) getting at least a little heat for knowing about the airplane training thing beforehand and not doing anything about it. Overall, intelligence agencies got off scot-free for the largest intelligence failure in US history.

So if Tulsi gets heat for something like that? I would consider it for what it would be - the buthurt Ds trying to get back at her for exposing their party's corruption and speaking out against their favorite looooooooooooooooooooser, Hillary Clinton.

    Indy,
That’s because the CIA didn’t entirely miss 9/11. They knew something was up.

"Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US" was a President's Daily Brief prepared by the Central Intelligence Agency that was given to U.S. President George W. Bush on Monday, August 6, 2001. The brief warned, 36 days before the September 11 attacks, of terrorism threats from Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda, including "patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for a hijacking" of U.S. aircraft.

I read the 9/11 Commission Report, Curt and you didn't. So don't try to school me on what happened. They got off scot-free. Didn't even ASK the questions that needed to be asked. And if that doesn't settle the issue for you (if you ever get around to it) - read Bob Graham's excellent book Intelligence Matters which dug far deeper into the national "security" appartus' incredible failures.

    Indy,
You read the 9/11 Commission Report but you forgot George Tenet's name? I wasn't trying to educate you, but rather remind you of what you may have forgotten.

I don't believe Gabbard has the qualifications for the job, and I am suspicious of her allegiances. Time will tell if I my dim opinion of her is justified.

I think that Tulsi has the grit and fortitude to stick to her guns and never be intimidated by any threat of blackmail or being corrupted by any foreign adversaries or former political acquaintances. You'll never see her flip-flopping just to gain vast amounts of power and money!

  11. by Ponderer on February 12, 2025 12:00 pm

And how much "experience" does it really take to close down all the agencies that you've been put in charge of anyway??

BTW, guess who else famously switched parties (kinda, but not really)...

  14. by Curt_Anderson on February 12, 2025 12:33 pm
    Indy,
I don’t count changes in party affiliation when a person is a very young voter. Probably most Americans have crossed party lines in general elections. Elected politicians who switch parties are likely opportunists or never had principles aligned with their original party.

  15. by Indy! on February 12, 2025 1:30 pm

No Curt, I would not expect you to hold Hillary's flip-floppery against her since you and her are cut from the same cloth - Republicans pretending to be Ds. You probably campaigned for Nixon, Barry Goldwater and Nelson Rockefeller too. DId you also attend the Republican Convention in your 20s like her?

In a letter to her youth minister at that time, she described herself as "a mind conservative and a heart liberal".

Translation: Republican ashamed to say it out loud. You know... like you. 😌
