July 23 (Reuters) - Vice President Kamala Harris opened up a marginal two-percentage-point lead over Republican Donald Trump after President Joe Biden ended his re-election campaign and passed the torch to her, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

The poll, conducted on Monday and Tuesday, followed both the Republican National Convention where Trump on Thursday formally accepted his party's nomination and the Biden announcement on Sunday he was leaving the race and endorsing Harris.
Harris, whose campaign says she has secured the Democratic nomination, led Trump 44% to 42% in the national poll, a difference within the 3-percentage-point margin of error.

Harris and Trump were tied at 44% in a July 15-16 poll, and Trump led by one percentage point in a July 1-2 poll, both within the same margin of error.

Some 56% of registered voters agreed with a statement that Harris, 59, was "mentally sharp and able to deal with challenges," compared to 49% who said the same of Trump, 78.

There were definitely a lot of people - like me - waiting for a better choice than Dumb and Dumber.

    From Curt's gay Guy:

Don’t overthink running against Kamala. Make the democracy/fairness points & move on. Avoid sympathy-causing personal attacks. Lean hard into her truly radical agenda (on record & on video), ownership of Biden failures & complicity in the Biden big lie:

If I get the chance, I'll highlight this insightful article.

If there is one thing you have proven beyond any shadow of a doubt, peebs - it's that you know absolutely nothing about highlighting. You're the opposite of highlighting.

I keep saying this and apparently folks still don't know how our system works. Taking "national polls" is extremely misleading. If one or the other is "up" in national polls, all that does is make insecure people feel good about themselves. So one candidate has a cluster of votes from one state. In our system, CA (for example) has 54 votes regardless of the final vote. They may be split if CA isn't a "winner take all" state. We know NY, CA, CO, WA, OR will go blue. That's a given. No big deal.

The valid polls are those showing swing states. I think it's too early to get a "good" read (whatever that's worth) on the changes that are happening. I'm giving it a couple of weeks to see what's going on.

At this time, dims have an estimated 182 electoral votes.
GOP has 262. Again, better views will be in a couple of weeks.
As we all know, the magic number is 270.
