Let me start off with two words. I support Biden. I support Biden.

I'm holding fast.

Did you see Dana on The Five today suggesting that the audio of Biden's interviews with Robert Hur might mysteriously be leaked to make it impossible for Joe continue his campaign? Interesting.

George Clooney: I Love Joe Biden. But We Need a New Nominee.

Iím a lifelong Democrat; I make no apologies for that. Iím proud of what my party represents and what it stands for. As part of my participation in the democratic process and in support of my chosen candidate, I have led some of the biggest fund-raisers in my partyís history. Barack Obama in 2012. Hillary Clinton in 2016. Joe Biden in 2020. Last month I co-hosted the single largest fund-raiser supporting any Democratic candidate ever, for President Bidenís re-election. I say all of this only to express how much I believe in this process and how profound I think this moment is.

I love Joe Biden. As a senator. As a vice president and as president. I consider him a friend, and I believe in him. Believe in his character. Believe in his morals. In the last four years, heís won many of the battles heís faced.

But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can. Itís devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ďbig F-ing dealĒ Biden of 2010. He wasnít even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.

Was he tired? Yes. A cold? Maybe. But our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didnít see what we just saw. Weíre all so terrified by the prospect of a second Trump term that weíve opted to ignore every warning sign. The George Stephanopoulos interview only reinforced what we saw the week before. As Democrats, we collectively hold our breath or turn down the volume whenever we see the president, whom we respect, walk off Air Force One or walk back to a mic to answer an unscripted question.

Is it fair to point these things out? It has to be. This is about age. Nothing more. But also nothing that can be reversed. We are not going to win in November with this president. On top of that, we wonít win the House, and weíre going to lose the Senate. This isnít only my opinion; this is the opinion of every senator and Congress member and governor who Iíve spoken with in private. Every single one, irrespective of what he or she is saying publicly.

    (rest at NY Times)

    Donna,

Did you watch Bidenís appearance on Morning Joe t'other day? He identified "the elites" as his opponents.

So, what happens? George Clooney writes that NYT Op Ed. And Michael Douglas shows up on The View... with the same apparently coordinated message.

But, 14,000,000 faithful Dems voted for our President in the Primaries.

    Democracy, baby!

To quote that idiot, Abraham Lincoln, "of the people, by the people and for the people."

  5. by Donna on July 11, 2024 7:13 am

No, didn't see it. The majority of Dem voters who don't want him to be the party's nominee are the real "elites" in Biden's rapidly failing mind, huh? Sounds like something he'd say. Disgusting.

  6. by HatetheSwamp on July 11, 2024 7:29 am

Oy. You wouldn't have been that nasty toward our President two weeks ago. It's like Biden is your new Trump.

To be more clear about pb's point: For all his cognitive failings, Joe's string-pullers are proving themselves to be adroit in waging political warfare. Rhetorically, they chose the field the battle is going to be fought on within the Dem Party... "real" Dems v the elite.

Joe may win this. And, he'll be a more effective candidate in the fall, if he holds on...

...unless he has another major brainfart in public.
