It's time for the Democrats to have an old fashioned contested convention

Conventions before most states had primaries were dramatic and rowdy affairs. Now they are just boring coronations. It was at those old-style conventions that the parties' nominees were decided. The conventions were part survivor-style reality show and part American's Got Talent. They did and would make for good television.

The Democrats could put together a good line-up of contestants. It's time for Biden to pass the torch.

Incidentally, I have previously written here that debates are not especially indicative of the skills needed to be president. It's not a solo job like a lighthouse keeper. Unlike the debate tonight, they can refer to notes or any other resources. Presidents always have their advisors handy. But most of the public doesn't know that.

First, I agree with the statement. I've been really scared about pedojoe being president. Most of the fears I've had have come true.

That said. Do you have a laundry list of people you might consider? Being conservative, I've already thought of one for the other side but that doesn't do you any good at all.

This will be hard for the Dems. How many opponents did the Orange Turd have? The GOP is the home of openness and inclusion, acceptance, diversity, tolerance and freethinking.

The Dems are the home of locksteppers... and the smoke-filled room.

I agree with Curt, but it's gunna be difficult. And, I want to watch when the party bosses tell black women that the first African American Vice President isn't their choice.

    Bahahahahahahahahahaha haha ha.

My candidate list would start with popular governors who have been reelected. Especially governors in red states or swing states who are Democrats. I don’t have any particular person in mind.

I said here before that contrary to popular opinion primaries are not a very democratic way of choosing a presidential nominee. That decision is made by handful of people in early states like Iowa, New Hampshire or South Carolina. For the rest of us, the decision has been made as we usually only offered one candidate for your parties nomination.

I would like to see Joe Biden release all his delegates. Then have an online pre-convention in which the delegates would winnow down the field until one candidate remains. I say this because I believe the Democratic convention will be held in August and I’d like to see a different nominee selected earlier.

    I'm with you, Curt.

Our governor, Josh Shapiro, is definitely a lib but even ole pb approves of his job performance. If he's the Dem nominee the Dems absolutely will win Pennsylvania. Gretchen Whitmer, I think would win Michigan... but...

... across the nation, if Kammy ain't the candidate, the Dems will take a huuuuuuuuuge hit with black voters.

    Rock and hard place, baby!

Honestly the Ds were handed a HUGE opportunity last night - IF (big one) - Joe is willing to step aside. That's the only way it happens and it needs to happen soon. Right now D operatives should be in a room with Joe strapped to a table browbeating him until he agrees to drop out. But this is actually a good thing because Joe was losing anyway. He was NOT going to bring out those same people who barely got him across the line last time. They should pick someone YOUNG with vigor who can hammer the crap out of the orange liar. The bar is so low with Trump - bringing in just about anyone NEW and REFRESHING to the eyes of every D out there will light a fire under them and get them to the polls.

This is the Ds one chance to win.

Oh - and I heartily disagree with Curt's idea to bring in a red state D to play junior varsity Republican candidate to Trump's dictator candidate. The last thing the Ds need to win is to go fishing in the NASCAR pond again. There aren't any votes there and they don't need them to win. All they need to do is turn out the regulars - ALL of them.

    Indy,
A red state D governor doesn't have to be a JV Republican as you suggest. It could mean that they were effective in passing progressive legislation despite have a Republican legislature. There is something to be said for a politician who can get things done in the face of opposition.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on June 28, 2024 11:53 am

Yeah, Curt, I agree. Our guy, Shapiro, is about as progressive as the string-pullers' version of Biden. He ain't AOC, but he's not chopped liver.

  9. by Indy! on June 28, 2024 12:06 pm

PB is calling your guys "progressive", Curt. That's the reason why you DON'T do it. ALL Ds are JV Repubs- the ones who get elected in R states are actually Rs.
