In a nutshell, instead of chasing politicians and groups the government feels are "enemies," Florida is actually trying to protect its citizens. Two main features of the Gun Violence Unit (GVU) is that there are specific ADAs assigned trained to work with the LEAs and prosecute gun violence cases in each of the state district court systems. To back up the attorneys are intelligence analysts, and support personnel. Their charge is twofold. 1. Thorough investigations into illegal shootings and maximum prosecution of gun violence acts. 2. Actively prosecute "Felon with a gun" charges to the maximum allowable extent.

This has been around for awhile, and is working well enough for a budget bump up and support.

STATE ATTORNEY SUZY LOPEZ EXPANDS OFFICE GUN VIOLENCE UNIT TO STRENGTHEN PUBLIC SAFETY
State Attorney Suzy Lopez is expanding and restructuring the agency’s Gun Violence Unit (GVU) to better prosecute gun-related offenses and our community’s most violent offenders. The agency has expanded the number of attorneys dedicated to this highly-specialized team that exclusively prosecutes cases involving gun violence.

This expansion allows our prosecutors to work more collaboratively with law enforcement to address serial trigger pullers who victimize our community. This restructuring will bring the Gun Violence Unit to a total of five attorneys including a Chief, Deputy Chief, and three Lead Trial Attorneys who will exclusively handle gun-related crimes.

“As prosecutors, our greatest responsibilities are to the victims of crimes and protecting public safety. We must use every tool we can to fight gun violence in our community. By expanding the Gun Violence Unit, my office will dedicate significant resources towards prosecuting these brutal crimes that tear families apart and terrorize our neighborhoods. Working hand-in-hand with law enforcement from the crime scene to the courtroom, assigning specialized, highly-trained prosecutors, and standing with victims gives us the best chance of holding gun violence offenders accountable,” said State Attorney Suzy Lopez.

Some dude shooting you with a gun is less likely than you getting hit by lightning or winning the lotto. That's - unless of course - you're in the military. I get that your paranoid someone is going to shoot you there in Pahokee or whatever backwater city you're currently living in - but I grew up with the big dawgs and never needed a gun to get thru the day. I actually thought this was something that a STATE is doing to keep its citizens (and non) safer. The state has ZERO IMPACT on 2A. You still aren't smart enough to understand a simple thing like the federalist system you live under. The STATE cannot over-ride the US constitution. So a STATE is doing what it can. Putting bad people in prison. Making a place for the folks that are raising their families, trying to keep free from violent crime and have jobs to live. Does this affect the white population the most? No. It's those of color that are making bank on this. A lot of black and latina single moms and young kids. I guess I should have figured as much.
