Pollsters are derelict in accounting for one very basic fact.

Pollsters often report the presidential match-up in two ways: Biden vs. Trump, and a contest between Biden, Trump, RFK Jr., West and Stein.

Pollsters never include the Libertarian candidate, Chase Oliver. Oliver will appear on at least 36 state ballots, which is enough for a theoretical 368 electoral votes. The others, Stein, Kennedy and West will appear on 24, 16 and 7 state ballots as of now. They all fall short of the needed 270 electoral vote possibility even if they won every state they appear on the ballot. So it's ridiculous that pollsters ask prospective voters about these minor candidates as most people won't see their names on their ballot.

There is some grumbling that Kennedy hasn't qualified for the debates, but he doesn't meet two measures: 15% in the polls and sufficient ballot access. Chase Oliver at least meets one of the standards: ballot access.

Chase Oliver has a legitimate gripe with pollsters and news reporters who are ignoring his campaign, as Libertarians offer a real alternative to Democrats and Republicans.

I am under no illusions about Oliver's presidential chances. But if pollsters are going to include multiple minor candidates on the left, they should include the one legitimate minor party candidate on the right.

    Noop.

There are no standards... any longer. The uniparty has made its own deal with the SwampMedia. Kennedy won't be in the debates due to Swamp dysfunction and corruption.

What measure does RFK Jr. meet that Stein or Oliver don’t? The standards used for this current debate are the same standards that have been set by the debate commissions for the past 40 years or more.

I used to think Curt was gaslighting us on these kind of things (or at least trying to gaslight us) - but now I believe this is how he actually thinks. He's a product of the system and doesn't care that it's unfair and leads to the worst possible candidates out there - including a convicted felon who will probably be our next president (again).

Finally, the news media is noticing the glaring omission that I noticed. This article was just posted today.

The One Thing Wrong with All of the 2024 Polls
[To] fulfill that objective, pollsters need to include all the minor candidates with substantial ballot access.

Yet almost no pollster has included a Libertarian candidate in national presidential surveys.

This is despite the fact that the Libertarian Party has the most ballot lines of any third-party operation. According to a Ballot Access News edition dated June 3, the Libertarians are on the ballot in 37 states so far. (The Libertarians hit 50 states in the last two elections, but there is some question whether its current leadership can replicate the feat.)

Yes, it’s true that the Libertarian Party only picked its nominee, Chase Oliver, about two weeks ago. But the Green Party won’t pick its nominee until next month, yet Jill Stein is typically included in multi-candidate polls.

Most pollsters haven’t bothered to include any stand-in Libertarian. In the national surveys collected by FiveThirtyEight since May 1, only one included Oliver and one included a different Libertarian candidate, while 13 polling outfits have conducted trial heats with Stein, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Cornel West.

Pretty sure I saw Stein say she’s not running anymore.

Chase Oliver speaks, substantially, for HatetheSwamp.

Nevertheless, as of this moment, still, "Let me start off with two words," I support Biden. I support Biden.

    "God save the Queen, man!"

    Indy,
Jill Stein is still running for president. Her campaign website is still online and shows no indication of her giving up the ghost.

“Chase Oliver speaks, substantially, for HatetheSwamp.” —HtS

People who share your politics and supposed disdain for Trump might tell a polling organization that they will vote for the libertarian candidate. For them, that’s a viable option. Jill Stein, West or Kennedy might be all too far left for a former Trump voter.

That’s why you should take polls that exclude Chase Oliver with a grain of salt.

    Curt,

Your point is similar to one I've thinking of making.

I suspect that many voters will stay home, or vote for an alternative candidate this time around.

Some on the right may vote libertarian. West and Stein will appeal to white wokesters who care that the "dithering and diminished" Doddering Old Fool's brain is shot.

RFKJ? He's a little left and a little right.

  10. by Curt_Anderson on June 7, 2024 9:46 am
You and I both know that about RFK Junior, but a lot of low information voters are going to see the Kennedy name and assume that means Democrat.

  11. by HatetheSwamp on June 7, 2024 9:53 am

No doubt. Or, make a symbolic vote because there's nuthin worth voting for this time around... but they'd still be mostly Dems.

I can tell you that the GOP SwampMedia is more up in arms about the Libertarian candidate than usual. He's more of a threat than they're comfortable with.

There is no indication on her website that she's no longer running. Nor have I seen any reports that she quit.

Good. The more votes we can pull from the two color party - the better.

  16. by HatetheSwamp on June 8, 2024 1:12 pm

Actually, Stein is an impressive candidate. I wish she could debate the Orange Turd and the Doddering Old Fool. She'd wipe the floor with both of them... IMO.
