President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed a sweeping executive action to overhaul elections in the U.S., including requiring documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections and demanding that all ballots be received by Election Day.
The order says the U.S. has failed “to enforce basic and necessary election protections” and calls on states to work with federal agencies to share voter lists and prosecute election crimes. It threatens to pull federal funding from states where election officials don’t comply.
The move, which is likely to face swift challenges because states have broad authority to set their own election rules, is consistent with Trump’s long history of railing against election processes. He often claims elections are being rigged, even before the results are known, and has waged battles against certain voting methods since he lost the 2020 election to Democrat Joe Biden and falsely blamed it on widespread fraud.
Trump has focused particularly on mail voting, arguing without evidence that it’s insecure and invites fraud even as he has shifted his position on the issue given its popularity with voters, including Republicans. While fraud occurs, it’s rare, limited in scope and gets prosecuted.

by oldedude on March 25, 2025 9:12 pm Had you actually been reading posts, we've talked about this ad naseum.
You cannot have a bank account without a federal ID.
or apply for welfare
or have social security
or apply for Medicaid
or have a legal job
or buy a car
or rent an apartment
or buy a house (which most people in this position wouldn't do)
or gamble at a registered casino
or actually own any property
For the most part, the dims want the US population poor and at the governments "whim." Isn't that what you want? Everyone grabbing their ankles for the CCP?
DEF: A "federal ID is one the states produce that falls in line with the US government's anti-cloning guidelines. We are at least 10 years behind the EU, 20 years behind the Japanese and Koreans, and God knows how far we are behind the Chinese in ID tracking.
Think about it. The sheeple are always whining about this, what can you do without registering with the government? I'm asking you to make a case. The one woman who whined and bitched about not being able to vote, was granted a state ID and was out of the office in about 30 minutes.
What kind of ID do you have?
by HatetheSwamp on March 26, 2025 8:00 am
Based on the fact that your "feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" received 6,300,000 more ballots... not votes... than Cackles Mckneepads, there's no question that the Dems engaged in serious hijinks and shenanigans in winning the 020 election.
Trump is fully justified.
by Curt_Anderson on March 26, 2025 8:30 am OD,
Not one of the following activities are constitutionally protected rights:
open a bank account
or apply for welfare
or have social security
or apply for Medicaid
or have a legal job
or buy a car
or rent an apartment
or buy a house (which most people in this position wouldn't do)
or gamble at a registered casino
or actually own any property

You wanna splain your point Curt, my PigLatin ain't what it once was.
by Curt_Anderson on March 26, 2025 10:36 am HtS,
Describe in detail your "federal ID". Then I can explain the constitutional issues with Trump's directive.
by HatetheSwamp on March 26, 2025 11:08 am
Oy freakin friggin EFFINvey, your AP "news" article is more sermon than journalism.
My guess is that a valid, current Pennsylvania driver's license and a Social Security card will do the trick.
But, like you, I'm afraid that them d@ng d@rkies ain't smart enuff to figure out how to acquire legitimate identification. Eh?
by Curt_Anderson on March 26, 2025 11:17 am No, a Social Security card is not proof of citizenship or a federal ID. Nor is a standard state driver's license, unless it's an Enhanced Driver's License (EDL) or a REAL ID, proof of citizenship for federal purposes.
Evidently you ain't smart enuff to figure out how to acquire legitimate identification.
by HatetheSwamp on March 26, 2025 11:38 am
My driver's license is good enuff here. At least, it was.
by oldedude on March 26, 2025 1:36 pmNot one of the following activities are constitutionally protected rights:
Yes, AND by law, they all require a state ID that fulfills the requirements of a federal ID.
If you don't have a job, bank account, phone, utilities in your home, apartment, domicile, and you're not collecting welfare, social security, Medicaid, and pay for everything in cash (including your domicile, utilities, etc.). You might be a drug dealer! Heeeeaaarrssss your sign!
I don't understand what the libbles have against knowing authorized people are voting. Is it's okay if I vote in three states, and 27 voting stations. Or maybe I'll go to canada and vote. They're having elections soon.
by oldedude on March 26, 2025 1:42 pm So I'm asking you again to make a case against having to have an enhanced ID to vote. We've already upgraded twice nationally in past few years.
by Curt_Anderson on March 26, 2025 1:52 pm OD,
State ID is NOT valid federal ID.
HtS doesn't have the proper ID to vote if Trump has his way. Don't you think HtS should have the right to vote? What about all the people who don't have passports, Enhanced Driver's License or a REAL ID (all acceptable by Trump) like HtS apparently? If HtS has to buy Trump-approved ID it's essentially a poll tax, which are illegal.
In Oregon, and probably other states, a voter signs a sworn statement that they are legitimate citizens eligible to vote. That under penalty of significant prison time if you are lying.
I'd like you to try voting in various states and districts as you suggested and see if any authority catches your voter fraud. No matter what happens you'd be doing America a service.
by HatetheSwamp on March 26, 2025 3:51 pm
So, what is a valid federal ID, according to the EO?
by oldedude on March 26, 2025 4:29 pmState ID is NOT valid federal ID.
Valid forms of acceptable government-issued identification include:
Driver's license or state-issued photo ID card
U.S. passport or passport card
Original or certified birth certificate
Military identification
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) documents
Legal documents
The REAL ID Act, passed by Congress in 2005, enacted the 9/11 Commission’s recommendation that the Federal Government “set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver's licenses.”
The Act established minimum security standards for license issuance and production and prohibits certain federal agencies from accepting for certain purposes driver’s licenses and identification cards from states not meeting the Act’s minimum standards.
The federal government says that's wrong. Like you said though, if it's a REAL ID, it is if the state includes all the requirements of anti-counterfeiting technology, etc. That law has been in place for decades. That's why even State ID's have kept changing. As far as what makes that a legal government ID card? That isn't out in the open. And all IDs expire at some point. So it does take some time to replace an entire state's IDs, but they are updated.
The Germans have an "auswise," The Mexicans have a "voter's card." I'm not in favor of using something like that, but it would streamline the process. In both cases, the "hard copies" of them are extremely hard to counterfeit. A passport is easier. vitalrecordsonline.com dhs.gov
by Curt_Anderson on March 26, 2025 5:10 pm HtS,
I don't know where OD gathered his misinformation. Here is what the EO says, plus my notes.
(ii) For purposes of subsection (a) of this section, “documentary proof of United States citizenship” shall include a copy of:
(A) a United States passport; [If you don't travel, you are shelling out $165 just to vote ]
(B) an identification document compliant with the requirements of the REAL ID Act of 2005 (Public Law 109-13, Div. B) that indicates the applicant is a citizen of the United States; [If you don't drive, (but you have to pass the driver's test) you are shelling out $30 just to vote ]
(C) an official military identification card that indicates the applicant is a citizen of the United States; or [Maybe you could enlist, HtS ]
(D) a valid Federal or State government-issued photo identification if such identification indicates that the applicant is a United States citizen or if such identification is otherwise accompanied by proof of United States citizenship. [Maybe you could get a job working for the government. ] whitehouse.gov
by HatetheSwamp on March 26, 2025 5:28 pm
(D) a valid Federal or State government-issued photo identification
Are you suggesting that's rare?
by Curt_Anderson on March 26, 2025 5:45 pm(D) a valid Federal or State government-issued photo identification
Are you suggesting that's rare? ---HtS
You stopped reading at "if...". Do you have a government-issued photo identification proving that you are a US citizen? Visa holders can get regular drivers licenses.
Where would go to get an approved ID without spending any money if you only needed it to vote? The only time that I recall being asked to show any sort of ID in last decade or more is when I go through TSA at the airport.
by HatetheSwamp on March 27, 2025 3:16 am
Curt,
Yeah.
I have one issue by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
by HatetheSwamp on March 27, 2025 3:27 am
Oh, and, interestingly, Curt.
As you know, I live in the heart of Amish country in Pennsylvania. Our Commonwealth issues photo IDs to "plain" people which is identical to a driver's license but without driver's license information.
You're wrong about this. Not because you are stoopid but because you have sacrificed your brain to your Good Germaning.
BTW, ole pb strongly suspects that the Court will shoot down this EO. But, this is no more Jim Eagle than the Georgia voting law which has resulted in record turn outs. Keehee hoo ha!
by Curt_Anderson on March 27, 2025 8:46 am HtS, I am not wrong. Or you or OD would have answered the basic question I posed which is how can a person obtain the Trump-approved voter ID without having to go to extra lengths and expense? That makes it an illegal poll tax. The only thing you are right about is that courts will rule that Trump's EO is unconstitutional.
Unless you paid an extra $30 for your drivers license you don't have REAL ID.
by HatetheSwamp on March 27, 2025 8:51 am
Curt,
I disagree that it's a poll tax. People are required to produce this sort of ID to travel on an airline. H€ck when I went to the ER here in Myrtle Beach, I was asked to produce it. My wife went to an Urgent Care this morning. She had to produce it.
You're making a mole out of a mole hill.
Admit it.
by Curt_Anderson on March 27, 2025 10:42 am HtS,
MAGA I will not be very happy hearing you minimize Donald Trump's executive order. So you think his executive order amounts to nothing more than molehill? For shame!
