As you Dems were watching the debate last night, listening to Tim Walz admit, "I'm a knucklehead," did you wish Kammy had picked Josh Shapiro?

Many people believe JD Vance eviscerated Walz. Rest assured. Josh Shapiro would have... AT THE VERY LEAST... held his own.

I'm surprised it took you this long to get to that comment, Bill. I expected the MAGA Hats to make a bigger thing out of it. I thought it was an endearing example of his humility and humanity. Something we never saw outta Vance all night.

Walz is the right guy. No doubts about it here.

"Many people believe JD Vance eviscerated Walz." -Hate

Many people believe that the Earth is flat. Or that the Universe was created a few thousand years ago. What "many people think" is very often a poor assessor of objective reality, Bill.

"Many people believe JD Vance eviscerated Walz." -Hate

Lloyd Bentsen eviscerated Dan Quayle in their debate. People do not decide to who to vote for president based on vp debates.

  3. by HatetheSwamp on October 2, 2024 2:15 pm

Yeah, Curt, pb already said that. Normally, Veep debates don't matter.

That, you're no Jack Kennedy, line has been the most most memorable Veep debate line.

Two moments from last night may surpass it:

    1. "I'm a knucklehead."
    2. CBS cutting off JD's Mike.

Those are both the sort of thing that seeps into the consciousness of moderate and independent common sense voters.

  4. by HatetheSwamp on October 2, 2024 2:18 pm

So, po. Are you regretting Kammy not picking Shapiro...

... or, is your antisemitism blinding you?

  5. by islander on October 2, 2024 2:35 pm

Many people believe Walz eviscerated Vance. And he did.

Vance tried to look cool and smooth all while making a fool of himself.

How to combat global climate change? Bring manufacturing jobs back to the USA. 🙄 While that's probably not a bad idea, it's not going to do much to combat climate change, plus we're doing that anyway. And JD and his boss along with their gang really think pumping greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere has virtually no effect on our rapidly changing climate anyway.

Did Trump lose the election?...Vance wont answer that question.

How to help reduce the number of our kids who are being slaughtered in mass shootings in our schools? Make stronger doors with better locks and bring more security people into every school, presumably armed. Then we could have shootouts like the OK corral.

Abortion? Help financially strapped young mothers and families care for and feed their children. JD...We thought of that a long long time ago and have doing it all along even though your side calls those mothers welfare queens and fights tooth and nail to stop wasting taxpayers money on them making our job of helping them even harder.

And we should stop doctors from executing babies after they are born and make that illegal. Umm...JD doctors don't do that. It's illegal in EVERY state.Yes including Minnesota. I could go on and on but I know all the reasonable people already know all this.

  6. by HatetheSwamp on October 2, 2024 2:45 pm

    isle,

Tell me. You're taking Curt's, GOOD GERMANING FOR IDIOTS, class on line at night, aren't you!!!!!?

And, d@ngit. You're showing promise. Keehee!

  7. by Curt_Anderson on October 2, 2024 3:11 pm
    Adding to Islander's list...

Some other things that I thought Vance said that was dumb: immigrants are causing housing prices to go up.

Prices go up when demand is greater than supply. Kamala is right about needing more houses to be built. Around here at least, many people in the construction trades are Spanish speaking immigrants. There is more work here for building contractors than they can handle. People are on waiting lists to have houses built, painted, refurbished, etc.

If we allowed more immigrants in, there would be more people to fill the jobs in construction, agricultural, hospitality, et cetera that native-born Americans are not filling.

Also Vance said the Trump plan was to build houses on federal land. Aside from the fact that federal land is often far from urban areas where the jobs and shopping are, federal land is often forested and prone to fires: not a great place to build a house.

  8. by Indy! on October 2, 2024 6:55 pm

If anything is remembered from the debate - it will be Vance being too much of a pussy to say Trump lost in 2020. And why? Because he knows Trump will bitchslap him back to the Appalachians if he said it out loud on national TV.

  9. by Indy! on October 2, 2024 6:56 pm

I like Walz over Shapiro. Shapiro looks like a lawyer or an IRS accountant. Walz looks like that uncle you see about once a year who always has a joke ready and slips you $5 when you shake his hand.

  10. by oldedude on October 2, 2024 9:41 pm
Kamala is right about needing more houses to be built.
People can't get into housing because 1. interest rates are too high. 2. housing is still going up. So you're correct. If the average American were rich like you, and a slum lord, they could afford anywhere they wanted. Most people, especially couples looking for a couple extra rooms for kids and a yard for their kids can't find that.

  11. by HatetheSwamp on October 3, 2024 4:30 am

Vance is absolutely right about the housing shortage.

This could lose the election for Kammy. Lower class minority families are being EFFINkilled by the rise in rental costs. Trump's kickin @$$ with black and Hispanic males... and that's a compelling reason.

Kammy and that "dithering and diminished" "feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" have redefined the political landscape by handing a huuuuuuuuuge batch of traditionally Dem constituencies to the GOP.

  12. by islander on October 3, 2024 5:05 am

Kamala’s proposals for helping first time buyers actually make sense and young couples trying to buy a home know that.

I almost felt sorry for Vance as he had to stand there and try to defend Trump’s solutions to the questions asked. But…He knowingly accepted the position.

  13. by HatetheSwamp on October 3, 2024 5:22 am

Sorry for Vance? Bahahahahahahahahahaha haha haha bahaha ha!

Do you think, isle, that moderate and independent common sense voters might just see her proposal as:

A budget busting pander... to voters she already has in the bag?... like you, for instance.

  14. by HatetheSwamp on October 3, 2024 5:27 am

Just another note to you, especially isle, but to all of the rest of us who support Kammy, who support Kammy.

I'm concerned that Kammy's string-pullers and smoke-filled room are too concerned with preaching to the choir while Vance, especially, is focused on the moderate and independent common sense voter.

  15. by Ponderer on October 3, 2024 6:25 am

    "1. "I'm a knucklehead."
    2. CBS cutting off JD's Mike."

    1. I loved it. I thought it was an adorably relatable moment.
    2. They cut off both mics.

  16. by HatetheSwamp on October 3, 2024 6:38 am

They cut both mikes to stop JD's spanking of Tampon.

I've been remembering that, not so long ago, po, you declared yourself to be in the political mainstream. My knees are still bruised from the continued slapping, baha ha.

I'm certain that those are precious memories for you. Enjoy.

But, it's the sort of thing that seeps into the consciousness of those important moderate and independent common sense voters who'll determine the person who, next, occupies the Oval Office.

    Ain't?

Big Brother cutting off the mike of a Vice Presidential candidate. Offensive. Reminding one and all who supports the liberties guaranteed to all citizens by the Bill of Rights! Keehee ha.

  17. by Ponderer on October 3, 2024 7:03 am

Bill, do you realize that to all appearances, you do not care at all about your candidate telling flamingly blatant lies while asserting like some immune demigod that he should be allowed to get away with it? Are you conscious of the fact that you are fully supporting and defending his lying?

  18. by islander on October 3, 2024 7:08 am
Hate asked; ~ "Do you think, isle, that moderate and independent common sense voters might just see her proposal as:

A budget busting pander... to voters she already has in the bag?... like you, for instance."

No. I don’t see that at all.

I'm seeing many Americans who probably never thought much about it before that are now recognizing for the first time just how much those with all the economic power have been pulling the wool over their eyes.

What I’m starting to hear more and more is, “Hey, wait a minute! I can see now that maybe I’ve been fooled into thinking our government can’t afford to work for us and help us too instead of just those with all the economic power!!”

They are beginning to see the tax breaks, the subsidies, and the perks and power that those with all the wealth have been extracting from our government, and then telling those with the least that tax dollars spent on “them” is putting our nation in debt. And people are starting to see the wealth of our nation being sucked up by those elite at the top. Did you know that there are now 15 men, each with more than 100 billion dollars in wealth, Those few now have more than one and a half Trillion dollars… Try to imagine a pile of suitcases each one containing a billion dollars…You’d be looking at a mountain of 1,500 suitcases !! That’s what economic power means.

  19. by HatetheSwamp on October 3, 2024 7:44 am

My sense of moderate and independent common sense voters is that they are suspicious of Socialist, Big Brother programs. I know that those are in the center of your sweet spot... and, being a libertarian-ish GOP, I hate them.

I'll repeat. It seems to me that Kammy's smoke-filled room and string-pullers are still working hard to reach people like you who wouldn't vote against her with a MAGA AR12 pointed at your head.

That sort of campaigning won't reach the undecideds. It's a radical progressive solution. Everybody who wants that has been on board for a looooooooong time.

I think that her campaign is making a serious strategic mistake.

  20. by Ponderer on October 3, 2024 7:45 am

    Very well put, Isle!

  21. by Ponderer on October 3, 2024 7:51 am

"My sense of moderate and independent common sense voters is that they are suspicious of Socialist, Big Brother programs. I know that those are in the center of your sweet spot... and, being a libertarian-ish GOP, I hate them." -Hate

    Suspicious of "Big Brother" programs...?

Big Brother programs like Social Security? Medicare and Medicaid? Police departments? Fire Departments? The VA? The public school system? Etc. Etc.?

Which are the ones you hate the most, Bill?

  22. by HatetheSwamp on October 3, 2024 8:04 am

    No, po.

We were discussing the 25K she'll offer to first-time home buyers... at tax payer expense.

My point is that people, like you, who think that's a good idea have been on Team Mckneepads for a looooooooong time, and that the smoke-filled room and string-pullers are preaching to the choir when it's undecideds that will win us the election.

  23. by Ponderer on October 3, 2024 8:51 am

"We were discussing the 25K she'll offer to first-time home buyers... at tax payer expense." -Hate

Bill, it doesn't have to be the dementia-induced horror fantasy you are imagining. Programs like this can be set up to be self-supporting over time. And actually show a surplus.

Donna and I in fact bought this house through such a "Big Brother Program", organized and run by our county. The program actually makes money over the years, supports its own growth, and has helped a great many people own houses who otherwise would have had no access to such a dream.

The NACA program that I went into great detail about going through before we found this house is a national program that works in concert with the federal government and has been going on quite successfully for decades. Both of the programs I am talking about here are No Money Down programs. That amounts to several tens of thousands of dollars to help a first-time homeowner. Not just $25k.

In our case, the program subsidy investment was about $80k to get us into this place and with a mortgage payment that was workable with our income. As part of the contract, the county will get it all back and more when this house is eventually sold and they get 75% of the equity. Which they use to buy more houses and do the same thing with for more first-time home buyers.

Our home is currently worth $256k. Our total out-of-pocket for whatever fees and incidentals we needed to pay by close of escrow to own this house was around $3,300 or so. Can you comprehend how doable such a program would be for millions of Americans, if such a program was accessible to them?

It was an incredible WIN/WIN for us and the county. I simply can't say enough good things about this program.

Something like this program or NACA could be scaled up nationally to help tens of millions eventually achieve the same dream as we did. Even just $25k is a great investment compared to all the good it could do and the payback, monetarily and otherwise, that it will provide. I'm hoping that this is the sort of thing that Kamala has in mind.

  24. by islander on October 3, 2024 9:03 am

Ponderer, Hate still can't see how much those with the all the economic power have had over his thinking all his life. He's still in awe of those 'elites' sailing in their multi million dollar yachts and flying around the world in their private jets at taxpayer's expense. Yes,they buy these things as tax deductions. If nothing else, I think Trump, during his first campaign, started the more astute folks thinking when he bragged that he doesn't pay any income taxes 'and' its all perfectly legal. Some people began to wonder, who makes all those laws that allow Trump and all the other apex economic predators to do that?

Why don't they pay for all the protection of their assets and property, but insist that we pay instead? Who has the most to lose? Those down at the bottom have little or nothing to lose but they have to pay a much larger share of our income than those with all the wealth and economic power. Seeing Trump got a lot more people thinking, whose property and wealth are we really protecting most with all our military might spread around the world? This might be why we spend ten times more on our military budget than the rest of the world and those with all the economic power don't want to waste those tax dollars necessary to protect them on helping 'us', liking helping young families to be able to buy their first "home"...after all they don't deserve it.

  25. by Ponderer on October 3, 2024 9:12 am

    Another round, Isle...

    You're on a roll!

  26. by meagain on October 3, 2024 9:29 am
15 men, each with more than 100 billion dollars in wealth, Those few now have more than one and a half Trillion dollars…

It is even worse than that. The total wealth of all American billionaires -some poverty stricken by comparison with those 15 is $5.2 trillion (November 2022). That is 20% of the 2023 GDP of $25.4 trillion.

I would guess that would equate to something like a personal GDP of around $300 billion or 1.2% of the total. That would be 541 individuals with as much as 3.5 million Americans. 4 million if they are excluded from the average.

Not as stark as the 15 obscenities but a much greater total impact and reduction for all.

  27. by Ponderer on October 3, 2024 9:36 am

    Join in the party, me...!

  28. by Donna on October 3, 2024 9:47 am

If there were more programs like the one Pima County Arizona created, more Americans would be able to live the American Dream.

We're absolutely loving living in our new home! I never thought we'd ever be able to live in a nice home like this with so much land - almost a quarter acre!

Btw, it probably isn't a coincidence that Pima County is the bluest county in Arizona.

  29. by Indy! on October 3, 2024 11:52 am

The American Dream died with Citizen's United.

  30. by Ponderer on October 3, 2024 12:39 pm

Reagan was the coffin. Citizens United was the last of the nails.

  31. by Indy! on October 3, 2024 12:48 pm

    👍

  32. by Ponderer on October 3, 2024 1:02 pm

So Bill, do you understand now why your concerns about that $25k for first time home buyers are hallucinatory and asinine...?

  33. by HatetheSwamp on October 3, 2024 1:06 pm

"Bill, it doesn't have to be the dementia-induced horror fantasy you are imagining. Programs like this can be set up to be self-supporting over time. And actually show a surplus."

    po,

I follow Cackles fairly closely. So far, she said, "ABSOLUTELY NUTHIN! SAY IT AGAIN Y'ALL," about a self-supporting program.

Clearly, you are waaaaaaaaaay smarter than she. But, then,... she's a DINGBAT!

  34. by Ponderer on October 3, 2024 1:19 pm

Other than the $25k part, she hasn't gone into much detail about it at all yet. And that's fine. She certainly may well do some sort of program like I am talking about.

Like the deal that Obama did. Donna and I even tried to get a house through his plan that also had downpayment assistance. We were a week away from getting the keys to a 3br/2ba house in Long Beach that was going for $350,000 and we would have gotten for $176,000 with no downpayment. But through no fault of the program, the sellers pulled out at the last second.

Donna and I are extremely glad that deal fell through, given how things have turned out.

So Kamala has a template to work from already, provided by Obama.

At least she has more than a concept of a plan.

  35. by Ponderer on October 3, 2024 1:21 pm

Bill, it's not that I am smarter than Kamala or she is smarter than anyone else.

It's that everyone is smarter than you are.

  36. by Ponderer on October 3, 2024 1:23 pm

Geez, that house in Long Beach has got to be worth close to a million by now.

  37. by HatetheSwamp on October 3, 2024 1:35 pm

"It's that everyone is smarter than you are."

Ah, yes. I'm stoopid. You never dropped that one before!!!!!

    Keehee ha!

  38. by Ponderer on October 3, 2024 1:41 pm

Well, being as stupid as you are, I thought it probable that you had forgotten, Bill.

  39. by HatetheSwamp on October 3, 2024 1:49 pm

As I say often. I wish that I could be you. All of us do!

  40. by Ponderer on October 3, 2024 1:57 pm

Lies lies lies. All you got are lies.

    *sigh*
