Not a great start from Harris. Didn't answer question (better off now than four years ago), just listing policy proposals. Her response to him was better. She needs to tell a story.

    Only 15 minutes on economy?

Trump easily baited into rambling about rallies.

    Eating dogs? Et tu Fido?

  2. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 7:07 pm

Can't believe he pulled the dog story out of his ass. Made him look like an idiot. 😂

  3. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2024 7:26 pm
Trump has not answered many of the moderators’ questions and instead ranted on crowd size, etc.

  4. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2024 7:28 pm
She is being uplifting. He is being defensive.

  5. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2024 7:32 pm
He is being asked HOW he would end the wars in Ukraine, Gaza, HOW he would make health care better as he claims. He never says how, simply asserts he would.

  6. by ROB3RT on September 10, 2024 7:41 pm

I'm just relieved. Harris had more to gain orlose than Trump. Aside from a rough start and being a little nervous, she seem to be doing pretty well (as of second commercial break). I can't see any mistakes.

  7. by oldedude on September 10, 2024 7:42 pm
She has now flipped (flipper, flipper...) about the Palestinian issue. She's a LIAR, that cannot be trusted. And (like indy) Has no fucking clue what happens in a real war. There's going to be far more blood in that country that has been seen in thousands of years. kammy has never been to the region. just like indy.

She also hasn't met with Kim Jil Un, or been to the region. or understand what a threat like China. Or been to Ukraine. She's been the FUCKING VP! she should have been there to make a valid decision!

  8. by ROB3RT on September 10, 2024 7:43 pm

Any predictions on who wins in.post-debate polls?

    I'd guess Harris 65-35.

  9. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 7:45 pm

Think she did pretty good. Trump is Trump - lying his ass off and calling people names. He's his own worst enemy - thinking the general population wants a MAGA speech.

  10. by ROB3RT on September 10, 2024 7:45 pm
    .
Trump's big question: Why didn't she do it?

    Uh, because she wasn't president?

  11. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2024 7:48 pm
Trump’s closing: she was vp for 3.5 years why didn’t she do that stuff?
The question many people will ask, why didn’t Trump do that stuff in his 4 years?

  12. by ROB3RT on September 10, 2024 7:51 pm

Harris should have started the debate saying: "Donald Trump will be a weak president because he is easily manipulated. Watch as I manipulate and bait him tonight. I can control him. I will control him. He will follow me the same way he will follow anyone who is stronger than him."

    Because that's exactly what happened.

  13. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 7:53 pm

JD Vance up to bat... 😳

  14. by Donna on September 10, 2024 7:53 pm

I really liked Kamala. I'm a HUGE fan now. She was incredible.

I thought Donald's orangy-red head was going to explode near the end.

  15. by ROB3RT on September 10, 2024 7:54 pm

Chris Wallace on CNN: "Harris just pitched a shutout."

He said this was as bad a night for Trump as the June debates was for Trump.

I hope he's right. I hope this makes a difference and moves the needle, but I don't know...

  16. by ROB3RT on September 10, 2024 7:55 pm

*as the June debate was for Biden*

  17. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2024 8:05 pm
    Kudos to the moderators, btw.

Harris made an effort to win undecided voters. I think she will succeed at that. Trump was talking only to his MAGA base with his crazy talk about pets being eaten and weird tangents and rants.

  18. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 8:13 pm

The pets thing. Good lord... did he NEED to be told not to bring up the crackpot MAGA stuff? Then she baited him into talking his "rally" size. It was like the real life version of Obama's convention joke.

  19. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2024 8:15 pm
Childless Cat Lady Taylor Swift just endorsed Harris.

  20. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 8:20 pm

Watching Fox right now. Hannity and JD Vance are leading an emotional support group for all the MAGAs out there who just watched Trump get his butt kicked by a black woman.

  21. by ROB3RT on September 10, 2024 8:21 pm

Harris has just challenged Trump to another debate.

  22. by oldedude on September 10, 2024 8:21 pm
You're a racist, you little prick.

  23. by oldedude on September 10, 2024 8:22 pm
not you robert. indy has always been a misogynist prick.

  24. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 8:24 pm

Now RFK is trying to bail out the Orange Bucket of Lard on Fox. I forgot how funny Fox can be when things are going wrong for them.

  25. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 8:26 pm

RFK is now pimping the Kamala 86ed Joe conspiracy theory.

  26. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2024 8:31 pm
Trump mentioned Springfield and Aurora CO twice. What is the conspiracy about Aurora?

  27. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 8:34 pm

Aurora is where they had that theater shooting awhile back - maybe something about that?

  28. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2024 8:34 pm
“ RFK is now pimping the Kamala 86ed Joe conspiracy theory.”

    What do you mean?

  29. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 8:36 pm

Hannity is wondering why ABC didn't ask Kamala about the gov't paying for sex change operations for criminals and illegal immigrants.

Because ABC HASN'T LOST THEIR MINDS LIKE YOU, SEAN!

  30. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 8:37 pm

You know - that the Ds don't believe in democracy because Kamala made Joe drop out of the race.

    You couldn't get that? 🙂

  31. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 8:38 pm

Trump up soon on Fox. Probably looking to save some face or politely bow out before he gets his ass kicked again.

  32. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 8:41 pm

The excuse is "3 against 1" - the two ABC people and Kamala against Trump. Surely it's the fall back position they worked out beforehand, but he's still basically admitting he lost the debate (as he crows about how it was his "best" debate).

  33. by ROB3RT on September 10, 2024 9:05 pm

CNN'S instant poll result: Harris won 63-37.

  34. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2024 9:07 pm
How did Trump allow himself to baited about crowd size? He and his debate prep didn't see that coming? She demonstrated her point that Trump is easily manipulated.

  35. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 9:21 pm

He's a child, Curt... easily distracted.

  36. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 9:24 pm

On Fox Trump was claiming he won and the way "we know" is because Kamala was already asking for another debate. "Winners don't ask for a second debate - losers do!" Now he's between a rock and a hard place... he lost the debate so he really needs to win one - but if he accepts he'll probably get his butt kicked again... and if he refuses he'll look weak and Kamala will take her win and go home happy.

  37. by Ponderer on September 10, 2024 10:38 pm

"Chris Wallace on CNN: "Harris just pitched a shutout."" -Rob3rt

My comment to Donna at the end of the debate was that she hit a three-run triple.

I think she did a superb job. She was leading Trump around that stage like he had a ring in his nose with a leash attached. Every piece of bait she put out for him, he reflexively swallowed. He could not help himself. All we got from him was the same old tired scare tactics and a cavalcade of non-stop ridiculous and asinine lie after ridiculous and asinine lie. He failingly lied his fat orange ass off tonight because he had nothing. She had specific plans, and he had bupkis.

Excuse me. After nine years of working on it, he has a "concept of a plan".

I had predicted that she'd make a stumble or two. But she was all there. She didn't miss a step. She was excellent. Disciplined. Informative. Relatable. Respectable. She looked like a true leader up there and he looked and sounded like a criminally convicted carnival barker trying to save his corrupt circus from foreclosure.

  38. by Indy! on September 11, 2024 12:53 am

Personally I think the moderators were harder on Kamala than Trump.

  39. by HatetheSwamp on September 11, 2024 6:19 am

    That's because you are smitten.

  40. by Donna on September 11, 2024 7:56 am

The moderators fact-checked Trump on his inconsistencies and lies, but they only caught a few. If they had stopped him on every one, there wouldn't have been enough time for Kamala to speak at all.

  41. by HatetheSwamp on September 11, 2024 8:20 am

And, they were 0-for with Kammy. Trump would have lost any way... but there's no way the moderators were fair. If Trump has any hope, it's that moderate and independent common sense voters figure that out.

    Donna,

All of us have preferences and prejudices that we bring with us to every moment of our lives. What we do with them defines us. You ARE those prejudices... and, more so all the time.

  42. by Donna on September 11, 2024 8:25 am

    I really get under your skin, don't I ?

  43. by Indy! on September 11, 2024 8:28 am
Yes, and you bring more prejudices to the table than most, pb.

  44. by Curt_Anderson on September 11, 2024 8:44 am
At one point, Donald Trump said Harris does not have an economic plan. She has Joe Biden‘s plan which is like four sentences like run spot run.

Having attended first grade in the 1950s. I understood the reference. How old does a person need to be to understand that? Never mind that if the her plan is the same as the Biden plan it is in fact a plan. Also since when is “run spot run” four sentences?

  45. by HatetheSwamp on September 11, 2024 8:47 am

    "I really get under your skin, don't I ?"

Yeah, Donna. You do. I've noted in the past that you came across as have radical opinions but being thoughtful.

Not n'more. I'm afraid that you are a microcosm of our time.

  46. by HatetheSwamp on September 11, 2024 8:49 am

"Yes, and you bring more prejudices to the table than most, pb."

All of us bring our preferences and prejudices to every moment of our lives.

What seems to distinguish me from others here is that I know that about myself, and accept it.

"What seems to distinguish me from others here is that I know that about myself, and accept it." -Hate

Oh we all know about you and accept your preferences and prejudices too, Bill. It's what's kept us all so entertained over the years and in this forum for so long. We just love watching you wriggle around, trying to get away from them and deny them. It's quite a hoot!

  48. by ROB3RT on September 11, 2024 9:16 am

    Hate:

What distinguishes you from everyone else on this forum is you claim to oppose Trump and his MAGA followers, yet nearly every comment you make is in service of helping Trump and attacking his opponents. You are an insincere troll. Your goal is to help Trump and his MAGA agenda, but you are too much of a coward to admit it. At least the other people on this forum seem to be sincere.

  49. by Ponderer on September 11, 2024 9:31 am

    Thanks, Rob3rt. You're spot-on.

  50. by Indy! on September 11, 2024 9:38 am

    Peebs...

"Yes, and you bring more prejudices to the table than most, pb."

All of us bring our preferences and prejudices to every moment of our lives.

What seems to distinguish me from others here is that I know that about myself, and accept it.

Yet that doesn't seem to apply when it comes to Trump. And btw, you know none of us care that you support him, right? You could be a full throated MAGA hat on this board and I doubt it would change anything except you wouldn't have keep adding your "two words" thing to every post. We know from past history no one is changing their vote on this board once their mind is made up.

  51. by meagain on September 11, 2024 11:47 am
I wonder if as the heat dies down, the most important consequence of the debate will be that Harris introduced herself and showed her mettle to America. It won't be possible anymore to say that she is not well known or understood. Her personality and smarts were on display and they were impressive.

  52. by Indy! on September 11, 2024 11:53 am

Anyone who didn't know her before the debate is probably not a voter anyway. We learned more about her since she became the nominee - but it's not like she's been in a closet since she left CA. She was an AG, a senator, candidate for president and vice president.

  53. by Curt_Anderson on September 11, 2024 11:59 am
Before the debate, HtS repeatedly referred to Harris as a "dingbat". Trump repeatedly denigrated her intelligence too. That makes Harris's takedown of Trump even more embarrassing, devastating and inexplicable for MAGA world.

  54. by meagain on September 11, 2024 12:15 pm
One Canadian reporter says "It was like Socrates debating Scooby Doo."

  55. by Indy! on September 11, 2024 12:47 pm

Every debate he's been involved in was like Socrates debating Scooby Doo. The difference is the let him slide through every other time - including the Biden debate in July(?) This time they didn't call him out every time - but they did a couple times at least. Trump was also very repetitive with his attacks last night - same thing over and over. Made it hard to watch at the end, but I have to believe even the MAGAs could see thru his BS this time around.

  56. by Indy! on September 11, 2024 12:48 pm

    *they - meaning the moderators

  57. by Indy! on September 11, 2024 1:51 pm
Yes, and you bring more prejudices to the table than most, pb.

  58. by ROB3RT on September 11, 2024 5:39 pm

    On a slightly different note....

I really liked the debate format, with no audience and muted mics. I thought it provided more substance and less distraction. Yes, it gave Trump an advantage in the June debate with Biden, but I think it worked against him when he was facing Harris.

I wonder if the Harris campaign was misdirecting before the debate when they said they wanted the mics to stay on. A lot of what she did last night would have been a lot more difficult if Trump had the opportunity to interrupt. She wouldn't have been able to dangle the bait as easily if Trump could have interjected. He could yell, "No you're the puppet, you're the puppet" when Hillary tried to bait him, but he couldn't do that against Harris.

I see Tim Walz and JD Vance are going to debate on Oct. 1. I have an idea for a tie Walz can wear...

  59. by Indy! on September 11, 2024 5:50 pm

That would be funny. Walz is going to hammer Vance worse than Kamala hammered Trump. I'm seriously surprised Trump is allowing that debate to happen because Vance is already being hidden away on Fox and little tiny burgs where news people don't want to go.

I prefer no audience too - it turns the whole thing into an Us vs. Them circus. The mic thing was good, but if you noticed whenever Trump wanted to speak out of turn - the moderators flipped the mic back on for him. He couldn't interrupt Kamala directly, but he managed to get in the last word more than once when he had already used his specified time.

  60. by Curt_Anderson on September 11, 2024 5:57 pm
    Rob3rt,
I like your tie suggestion. I assume there is rule against bringing props to the debate, I wonder if that would be considered a prop. I think it should be allowed.

Maybe Walz could do an interview like this.

  61. by Indy! on September 11, 2024 9:02 pm

He doesn't need a prop - he can just play the Cat Game on him.

That cat game ploy would work in the debate when discussing Haitians in Springfield and childless cat ladies.
