Saturday morning I went on a bike ride of several miles and one point was huffing and puffing up one of out steep Ashland hills. As I reached the crest, a guy with a Harris/Walz sign and a big American flag in his front yard, yelled to me, "we got to take it back!" I guessed at what he meant and replied, "you got that right!". I welcomed the opportunity to stop pedaling so I took a break and chatted with him.
He said that he was a life-long Republican (he was about 70) but that he was voting for Harris. He also donated to her campaign. He was repulsed by Trump's kowtowing to Putin and other autocrats, Trump's disparagement of the military, Trump's criminality, and his general demeaning of America, his love of tariffs, etc.
He said that the current Republican party is rudderless and not the political party he signed up with. I remarked that it was a good for America to have two strong political parties, but they both have to have principles. We ended the conversation agreeing that this is our best chance to put a stake in the heart of the MAGA movement.
