Donald Trump has never released his medical records. We don’t know what his actual health is like, but there are obvious reasons for concern.
Trump is 78 years old, the oldest nominee of a major presidential party in U.S. history. If elected, he would be 82 years old at the end of his term, older than Joe Biden.
Family history of Alzheimer’s: Fred Trump, Donald’s father, lived to the age of 93, but suffered years of decline with Alzheimer’s disease. Unfortunately, Alzheimer’s can be inherited from a parent. And as all too many people know, people who have Alzheimer’s often begin to show cognitive and memory decline in their early and mid-70s.
Trump’s recent confusion: Trump has often displayed confusion over the past few years. Most recently, he was confused about whether he rode in a helicopter with Willie Brown and Jerry Brown. Despite the names, these two people look very different.
Obesity and lifestyle: Donald Trump claims to be 6’3” and 215 lbs. That might have been his weight a couple decades ago, but not now. He is morbidly obese, gets little exercise and eats an unhealthy diet.
Low-energy campaign: We are in the final 100 days of the presidential campaign, a time when most candidates are crossing the country. This week Trump held one event, in Montana. He’s had a fairly light schedule for most of the year. He could barely stay awake during his recent trial in New York. Does he have the energy to compete in a national campaign and to serve another term as president?
Type 2 diabetes? Moreover, Trump is known to drink up to 12 Diet Cokes a day. Very few people drink that many diet soft drinks unless they are suffering from type 2 diabetes. Trump’s obesity would be consistent with type 2 diabetes, which raises risk for related conditions, such as high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack and dementia.
These are very serious health risks and complications, and they increase the potential for debilitating episodes and death. American voters should demand more information about this aging candidate's physical and mental health.
