If you are of the opinion that we should have stayed in Afghanistan just "a little bit longer", at some point the final days there would arrive. Our military presence there would dwindle down eventually to nothing. What would have been different then to make suicide bombings any less likely?

If you are of the opinion that we should never leave Afghanistan is there ever a point were you think that we have spent enough billions and lost enough American lives say our work here is done?

If you are of the opinion that it's all Biden's fault, what would President Trump have done to prevent suicide bombings? Biden's state department warned Americans there that something like this might happen and told them to avoid the airport and to wait for further instructions.

No matter if and when we made our departure it wasn't going to be pretty. Nobody can prevent the irrational behavior whether it's suicide bombings, crowds trampling each other or attempts to ride on the outside of an airplane.

I am just glad that Joe Biden has the guts to finally put an end to it.

    Put an end to it?

    How do you figure!!!!!?

This is going to go on for a looooooong time!!!!!

  2. by Curt_Anderson on August 26, 2021 11:01 am
I figure that whatever happens there we won't be involved. We won't be paying trillions of dollars for an ongoing disaster. Americans won't be dying needlessly.

There have have been about 50 people killed worldwide in suicide bombings this year. About three times that number of people have been injured in the blasts. It barely makes the news here because it happens in countries where we are not attempting to occupy or "transform". Murder and mayhem happens everywhere. It shouldn't be America's job to try to prevent it in every godforsaken corner of the globe.

We will be spending a long time dealing with American citizens and friends in ISIS, Al Qaeda or some other jihadist groups' custody.

This will get very, very ugly. And, it will be ugly for a long time!

My guess is that Jimmy Carter's hostage mess will soon look like America's good ol days!

  4. by Ponderer on August 26, 2021 11:51 am

Well said, Curt! All of it!

And you're right, pb. It's gonna get hellatiously ugly there after we leave.

As I have said already, there are bound to be hard-line Taliban who are not taking too kindly to these "moderate" actions by the new supposed leadership of the country. They may be a minority even, but that's more than plenty to make life for Afghans a prehistoric Hell.

I'm sure that there were elements in the Taliban ranks who were beside themselves with rage at the thought of just standing down and allowing Americans and their traitorous Afghan collaborators to leave free and clear like they've been.

"Heathen American DOGS and their traitor to Islam whores! They shall not escape Allah's Justice!!! Strap 'em on me, My Brothers... strap 'em all on me...".

I don't want to imagine what kind of carnage a bomb like that blowing up in a huge crowd of people results in. I won't be watching the news on this for awhile.

You are so bang on, po. The Taliban is not one cohesive unit. It seems as if the group that is in nominal control of Kabul, if not necessarily moderate, seems to be concerned with what the rest of the world thinks. It's likely that in other places in the country, conditions will be more 6th century than in the big city.

However, as became evident just today, Taliban control of Afghanistan is minimal at best. These attacks that killed a dozen, maybe more, Americans were the work of ISIS. Despite a recent Biden lie, Al Qaeda is present in Afghanistan as well.

What Joe has unleashed on the whole effin world, is chaos among struggling jihadist groups many now heavily armed with very sophisticated, state of the art and very powerful weapons.

You're obsessed with blaming everything on Biden. I'm not even as harsh on Trump. Both political parties follow the same general foreign policy. It's always about $ and never about humanitarianism. Both political parties armed and supported the Mujahideen which became the Taliban. The only clear victors in war are the defense contractors who have incredible influence in Washington.

  7. by HatetheSwamp on August 26, 2021 3:32 pm

As you know, Donna, I disagree with both Joe and Trump on Afghanistan.

But, I think Joe pulled a real boner in entrusting the safety of US citizens and our Afghan friends and allies to the Afghan army.

    Don't you!!!!!?

He didn't. There are 5,000 or 6,000 US soldiers in Kabul. How do you think that the dozen US soldiers were killed in the bombings? At any rate, even if the Afghan army held off the Taliban and didn't fold, it would be us leaving matters to the Afghans. As I posted, we are talking about the American procrastinators who have known more than year we were pulling out. It was supposed to May, but Biden extended it until this month.

    Blaming the victims again.

  10. by Ponderer on August 27, 2021 8:47 am
Can you imagine the hair-on-fire hysterics of the GOP, and those that pb would be parroting through his keyboard, if Biden had increased the troop levels in Afghanistan ahead of the pullout?

There would have been rampant apoplexy from pb and his fellow Republicans.

  11. by Donna on August 27, 2021 9:05 am
They're politicizing the withdrawal. They're using it as a political opportunity - pushing the "Biden is inept" narrative instead of coming together and supporting the evacuation, which most Americans support. And you're right, hon. They would have picked apart ANY way that Biden went about it.

  12. by Ponderer on August 27, 2021 9:12 am
pb even gives it all away every time he brings up how it's gonna cost Biden and the Dems during discussions about such matters.

  13. by Donna on August 27, 2021 9:26 am
In the video below, Biden does an excellent job explaining his Afghanistan policy to Fox News reporter Peter Doocey.

  14. by Curt_Anderson on August 27, 2021 9:54 am
Peter Doocy is like HtS and probably most conservatives inasmuch as they look only at the very short-term. I am glad Biden spelled out the history to Peter Doocy in the Fox viewers regarding Trump's deal with the Taliban and why they agreed to not attack Americans in exchange for our withdrawing from Afghanistan.

  15. by Ponderer on August 27, 2021 10:02 am

Yes, really good video. Biden responded excellently.

Too bad pb won't watch it.

  16. by HatetheSwamp on August 27, 2021 10:35 am

I love how the buck stops with Joe but it's all Trump's fault.

This is classic dementia. Joe's a 6 year old boy. Nuthin that happened is down to him.

    DONNIE STARTED IT!

    Bahahahaha!

This answer effin satisfies you? Sheeeeeeeesh!

  17. by Ponderer on August 27, 2021 10:45 am
See? I knew he wouldn't watch it. If he had, he would have seen where Biden accepted the responsibility for everything that is happening.

But people like pb want everyone to thing the the things he is now responsible for were all started at the beginning of his presidency. Like it all appeared out of a vacuum, when in actuality, Trump left a cesspool of shit for the next president to have to clean up.

At least Biden knows how to accept responsibility.

Trump famously, steadfastly, and adamantly refused to ever take responsibility for a single god damned failure of his.

  18. by Donna on August 27, 2021 10:50 am
Biden didn't "blame" Trump - he simply explained the situation as it is.

  19. by HatetheSwamp on August 27, 2021 3:59 pm

Dana Perino calls Joe a Blame Spreader and that nails it. Joe can't EVER say, " The buck stops with me," without adding that he inherited the problem from his predecessor.

  20. by Donna on August 27, 2021 5:42 pm
But he DID inherit the problem from his predecessor. But so did Trump, which is why I haven't been super critical of him. And as you know I agree with his decision to pull out.
