Thank you Bishop Mariann Budde for standing up to Trump and telling what him he and all those who voted for Trump need to hear.

    Islander,
I am certain her homily fell upon deaf ears.

  2. by islander on January 21, 2025 12:41 pm

Curt, I'm sure there are plenty of Trump voters who will tune her out...It's simply what they do. I posted this for my friends here. We fully understand what Bishop Budde is saying and I'm sure they will are as proud of her as I am.

She had the courage to say this while looking Trump straight in the eye. In some of the other videos of this it shows Trump and Vance turn and stare at each other when she was finished. This woman has my utmost respect.

  3. by HatetheSwamp on January 21, 2025 12:54 pm

    Welcome, isle.

I've been, very sincerely, concerned about how you're handling the Tangerine landslide. I, very truly, hope that you are well.

What the Right Reverend Budde advocates is the blending of Christianity... it's Christian Scripture she quotes... and the American state.

However, just yesterday, Trump took an oath not to do that. Were Trump the Pastor of the United States, that'd beappropriate. But, he was elected President.

As a believer in Jesus, I agree with Ms Budde. Followers of Jesus must be people of mercy and love. But, like Thomas Jefferson, I want the wall that separates religion and the American state to stand firm and tall.

  4. by Curt_Anderson on January 21, 2025 1:23 pm
    HtS,
Just because Christian or any other religion’s doctrine sometimes coincides with American policies and laws doesn’t mean the wall between church and state has crumbled. Our laws against murder align with “thou shall not kill”, for example.

Trump reportedly gave the bishop’s sermon a “bad review”.

  5. by HatetheSwamp on January 21, 2025 1:34 pm

Yeah, the bad review thing was on Fox.

Bishop Budde is appealing to Trump as a Christian because of the teachings of our God.

As a general rule, American churches whose roots are in European State Churches have difficulty separating church and state in America. Catholics, Episcopalians, Lutherans, the United Church of Christ, Presbyterians...

Bishop Budde, as I hear her, is challenging Trump to practice her understanding of Church doctrine as President.

Good for her. It's her right. But, it shouldn't be her expectation.

  6. by islander on January 21, 2025 1:44 pm

Curt, the reason I was so impressed with the bishop was due to her courage. Like I said, she had the courage to stand up there in the pulpit and with Trump and Vance sitting in the front row, look Trump in the eye and call him out for his mockery of Christianity, along with his hypocritical pseudo-Christian followers. They have been shamelessly using their phony version of Christianity in order to gain political power...and so far it's worked splendidly for them.

Everything Bishop Budde said was true. It was so absolutely refreshing to hear the truth in a time when the liars and those with the forked tongues seem to have nearly drown it out.

  7. by Curt_Anderson on January 21, 2025 2:06 pm
    Islander,
I was impressed with her too. Unfortunately, Trump is devoid of compassion and even worse than last time he is surrounding himself with bootlickers.

I know we are all expected to root for the president's success. I believe you are close to my age, 72, and probably in similar economic circumstances. I suspect that we can both survive the Trump regime.

So rather than hoping for Trump's success, I am counting on his excess. I expect to experience schadenfreude when his mass deportation divides families including those who supported Trump (see link). I won't mind if grocery prices go up when farmers cannot find enough workers to harvest produce. Too bad if tariffs cause prices at Walmart go up. If anything causes some Trump voters to regret and rethink their vote, I will be happy.

Thanks Islander - nice. This is what needs to happen. Not the fake "resistance" crap Hillary, MSNBC, CNN and D pols used to make a buck - actual resistance right in the face of the oppressers. And not because it will change the Homeless Hairdo or his idiot handmaiden VP - because other people will see it and know they are not alone in their disgust for this shitstain on the American Experience. Those of us who are old enough to remember Nixon and Vietnam - this kind of thing happened often. People he would bring to the White House for a ceremony or something would suddenly pull out a cloth sign from their pocket that said "END THE WAR NOW" or something to that effect. It made a difference. We need more of this, not only in public - but in private. Don't let these folks f this country and live peacefully - disrupt their lives. They are disrupting ours.

And so far as the board Trumper's statement? Pharaoh Fatso is "Christian" in the same way I'm the pope. 🙄

  9. by HatetheSwamp on January 21, 2025 2:49 pm

"They have been shamelessly using their phony version of Christianity..."

JD's a Roman Catholic, faithful and orthodox. There are about 1,300,000,000 Catholics in the world. What's your definition of phony?

While I think, isle, that it's amusing to have a non-Christian presume to declare what "genuine" Christianity is, in this case, I can't disagree with you.

And, buddy, I absolutely agree with your title. And, were this a Theocracy, you'd be bang on. But, as Lincoln said, "of the people, by the people and for the people..."

Who Trump is, is what the people chose.

  10. by Indy! on January 21, 2025 3:29 pm

JD supported your orange shitstain's pardon. He's not a Christian or Catholic. He's a fraud just like you. You can't support violence against innocents and be a Christian. You can't be a bigot and be Christian. None of you MAGAts are Christians.

  11. by islander on January 21, 2025 5:09 pm

    Indy,
I can't help but think you are right about JD just like Trump. They are phonies and frauds. Those who voted for him are now going to have to accept full responsibility for what they have sown.

Here is Trump's response to the bishops sermon.

I noticed that too, Indy...She knows...the others all look like spoiled privileged elites, who couldn't care less what the Bishop was asking of them.

  14. by HatetheSwamp on January 22, 2025 2:43 am

    isle,

Own it: You are a white Christian Theocrat.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,..." BABY!

  15. by islander on January 22, 2025 6:40 am

    And now we learn that Trump has rescinded Biden's policy of allowing Medicare to negotiate with the drug companies to lower our cost for drugs. And the MAGA pseudo-Christian Trump voters will do their best to try and defend him;

"On average, Americans pay two to three times as much as people in other countries for prescription drugs, and one in four Americans who take prescription drugs struggle to afford their medications. Nearly three in 10 American adults who take prescription drugs say that they have skipped doses, cut pills in half or not filled prescriptions due to cost." ~ Newsweek

As usual, Trump and his voters will cheer him on as he wields the power they gave him to hurt those who are already hurting the most

    isle,

First, thanks for linking to NEWSWEEK, one of only a few news outlets pb endorses as a reliable source of journalism.

I have mixed feelings about this. I, personally, am a part of a huuuuuuuuuge Medicare Advantage plan which, I trust, will do its own negotiating on my behalf.

I know that you are one of many who was happy to suck on Joe Biden's proverbial "teet," but ole pb is libertarian-ish more and more all the time. In fact, pb ain't MAGA because MAGA is too Big Brother for pb. Ole pb wants to see the size of government managed. Ole pb believes that the Doddering Old Fool's string-pullers have let federal spending get waaaaaaay out of hand. Ole pb supports, generally, Mr Tangerine Man's efforts to undo the Big Brother fiscal lunacy practiced by the Former Truck Driver's handlers.

Still, isle, being a geezer myself, I feel your pain.

  17. by islander on January 22, 2025 7:27 am

    Curt,
you’re right. I myself, like you, am old enough to probably weather the damage Trump is going to inflict and is now inflicting on our country and the American people. I do worry about my children and grandchildren though. If, by the end of his term, the Trump voters still refuse to see the harm they have done I think it’s going to take a long, long, time for our country to repair the damage and heal itself, that is if it can in fact make it through this intact. I’m hopeful, however, that we will be able to see the beginning of this as early as the mid-terms, in fact, I’m very much surprised at some of the Trump supporters I know who are already acting as if they didn’t expect Trump to really do what he is doing.

  18. by HatetheSwamp on January 22, 2025 7:43 am

"I do worry about my children and grandchildren though."

    isle,

I gotta say, you are a blessing to me. My home is surrounded by Amish and very conservative JoeWenger Mennonites, both of whom practice the Ban among those whom they deem to be unorthodox. Thanks for extending that biblical practice to SS. Youdabomb! Thanksaton!

Actually, it's out of concern for future generations that pb hopes that Mr Tangerine Man successfully shrinks government. If not, merely paying interest on the debt will be cumbersome for your children and grandchildren.

    isle,

Two, three years ago you were singing that same jingle, suggesting that the MAGAs in your acquaintance were dropping Trump and running to the hills. Nice try! Trump was the first GOP to win the popular vote since W.! Keehee ha!

A piece from News Center Main describing Trump's anger filed rant last night over Bishop Budde's sermon pretty much makes it clear how Trump and the Trump voters feel about the truth.

"Her sermon directed at Trump on Tuesday provoked a lively reaction on social media. Austen Ivereigh, a biographer of Pope Francis, wrote on X that the bishop “named the truth” when she spoke to Trump and Vance. “Their expressions of fury and discomfort suggest she nailed it,” Ivereigh said.

trump, always open to constructive criticism...

Trump demands apology after bishop asked him to ‘have mercy’ on LGBTQ+ people and migrants

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Wednesday demanded an apology from the Episcopal bishop of Washington after she made a direct appeal to him during a prayer service marking his inauguration to have mercy on the LGBTQ+ community and migrant workers who are in the United States illegally.

Referencing Trump’s belief that he was saved by God from assassination, the Right Rev. Mariann Budde said, “You have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now.”

After he returned to the White House, Trump said, “I didn’t think it was a good service” and “they could do much better.” But later, in an overnight post on his social media site, he sharply criticized the “so-called Bishop” as a “Radical Left hard line Trump hater.”

“She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way. She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart,”
said Trump, a Republican, adding that Budde didn’t mention that some migrants have come to the United States and killed people.

“Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was a very boring and uninspiring one. She is not very good at her job!” Trump said.

And trump owes us a good, thorough fuckingof himself.

First thing Trump does - pardons cop killers and seditionists (google it, OD)

Second thing - increases drug prices

Third thing - let's more immigrants into the country

The MAGAts got exactly what the orange ass monkey DIDN'T promise. 😂
