If Trump and the MAGA Republicans win in November, who here believes that the right wing's goal of removing all civil right protections of the LGBTQ community and annulling and making same sex marriages illegal again should go ahead and be implemented?

How many of you here believe that Donna's and my marriage should be taken away from us?

    po,

No offense. Your post is moronic. Okayfine. That was offensive. But, c'mon man. Gimme a break.

Trump is, far and away, the most tolerant on LGBTQIA2+ issues of all the GOPs who ran for president in 024.

And, how do you suppose Trump'd singlehandedly overturn the Supreme Court's Obergefell decision?

Is our Republic going to disintegrate merely on the wim of any president!!!!!?

Seriously, I honestly believe that it's this thinking among practitioners of TrumpHate, from people such as yourself, that gives Trump the best chance of winning in 024. Your question is irrational... and moderate and independent common sense voters (Donna's 'low information' voters) think that those questions are just plain nuts. That thinking offends them...

AND, pb's a GOP but not MAGA. Trump won't do what you suggest, but, if he tried it. The millions of people like ole pb would fight him as fiercely as would you.

    Chill.

I would certainly expect some localities and states to try to turn back the clock on same-sex marriage and other civil liberties. This will probably come from the same people who brought you mandatory classroom 10 Commandments posters and teaching the Bible in the schools. I would not necessarily expect those efforts to be successful or widespread.

  3. by HatetheSwamp on June 29, 2024 8:46 am

    Curt,

By decree of the Supreme Court, SSM is required in the whole EFFINUnited States. This is just malarky.

  4. by Curt_Anderson on June 29, 2024 8:53 am
So we thought that religion would not be taught in the public schools. You could make a similar argument, using the other side of the political fence and point out efforts to curtail gun ownership.

Oh. Perfect, Curt. A little performance art, eh?

    TrumpHate as art!

First, the Louisiana poster law ain't teaching religion. Second, the Supreme Court hasn't upheld the law and, very likely, won't.

But, thanks for illustrating the very sort of progressive irrational hate that is turning moderate and independent common sense voters to Trump. Youdabomb!

  7. by Curt_Anderson on June 29, 2024 9:08 am
    HtS,
So you agree with me. 👍 I said I did not think the attempts would be “successful or widespread”. The Supreme Court would ultimately decide if the effort were successful or not. I also said there would be local efforts meaning that it would not be a presidential edict.

"By decree of the Supreme Court, SSM is required in the whole EFFINUnited States." -Hate

    Uh huh.

Curt, maybe you could help me here, since Hate hasn't got afucking clue. Wasn't, by decree of the Supreme Court, Roe v. Wade the law of the whole United States once too...? Wasn't it "settled law"...? The Law of the Land...? A basic civil right of all women...?

My fears are absolutely founded in the reality of what the religious right and their activist Supreme Court majority is and what they have striven relentlessly to do to this country for a very long time. The idea that once they have the power to do it, they just won't do it is what's moronic here.

    po,

You do paranoidhate as well as anyone I've ever encountered. The decision was only, what?, ten years ago? And, the court has given no hint whatsoever that it would even EFFINtake such a case.

Really, po. You can stand down. Trump truly is as tolerant as any GOP on LGBTQIA2+ issues. On this point, your fear is absolutely irrational. I can't even begin to understand it.

This is an EFFINrepublic. Y'know, "of the people, by the people and for the people?" Liberty and justice for all?

    Chill.

  10. by Curt_Anderson on June 29, 2024 9:54 am
    HtS,
It is not at issue of how tolerant or intolerant Donald Trump is. It is who he appoints to the courts. For example, on personal level I’m sure that Donald Trump has paid (probably half) for abortion or two. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t appoint zealous pro-life judges.

  11. by HatetheSwamp on June 29, 2024 10:12 am

    Curt,

I get that and I too suspect that Trump has financed a few abortions. He's despicable.

But, think just for moment. He's already appointed Supreme Court Justices. If the sort of judge Trump will appoint wanted to ban abortion, abortion would have been declared illegal in the Dobbs decision. That's not how our judges roll.

Abortion, by Supreme Court jurisprudence, is now regulated "by the people and their elected representatives." I've made this point repeatedly on several issues: These Justices have elevated the Tenth Amendment over your side's Fourteenth Amendment.

Interestingly. In a concurrence, Justice Thomas (I think it was in Dobbs) called for a reexamination of Obergefell and the other "conservative" Justices were emphatic. That ain't happnin. They won't go there.

But, to po's paranoid delusion: The Republic won't disintegrate if Trump is elected.

So we thought that religion would not be taught in the public schools. You could make a similar argument, using the other side of the political fence and point out efforts to curtail gun ownership.

Oh, how little you know about how our system works... I'm not even going to address the moronic 2A issue. The religious piece has just been passed and not tested in any court. AND trumpster had ZERO to do with that.

I agree with Lead and have said it several times. He forced the RNC to place LGBTQ+ rights in his platform the first time around. I know you hate him, but DANG! Don't LIE that hard about him. There's really enough truth you really don't have to.

SO. Let's say trumpster (per se) files an EO to make gay marriage illegal. I'm saying EO because it CAN'T, BY DEFINITION BE A LAW. No president has the power to do that. FIRST, it's NON BINDING. SECOND. there would hopefully enough lawsuits that says the EO violates Federal Law, they'll have to overturn it pretty quick, even if the lower federal district courts don't. SO the possibility of ONE PERSON making all that happen is moronic at best. Welcome to a system of checks and balances, even if you don't know they exist.

Both of you, please enroll in your local community college and take an American Government course.

    Moronic at the absolute best.

This is Rachel Maddow ridiculousness... literal and metaphorical. And, Morning Joe stupidity.

Our white woke progressives don't seem to understand that they live in a republic, one with a radical Bill of Rights to protect them.

Clearly, they try to abuse the Bill of Rights when they are in control. But, it still functions.

Didn't read the whole thread, but to answer Pondy's question... I believe the Supreme Whored will be the ones who take away LGBTQ+ rights and Trump will pretend like he cares but explain in monosyllabic terms that he can't do anything about it. The Whored will do that when they have some case that has nothing to do with LGBTQ+ folks just like all their other illegal assaults on the American way of life.
