What in the world is the deal with these people who support Donald Trump? What is so mentally amiss with them that they would vote for this person, given all that they have watched him say and do over the last eight years or so? Given all the blatant evidence of his rampant criminality and anti-American, unconstitutional behavior he has wantonly and flamboyantly engaged in on a constant basis?

Some I suppose are simply gullible and are highly susceptible to the wiles and tactics of such a profligate and skillful con man who is so motivated to feed their prejudices and hatreds for his own purposes.

Some I think are motivated by greed and the hope that he will make them far more phenomenally wealthy than they already are, regardless of what it does to cripple the rest of this country and even the world.

Some are just so terrified by the lies they are being fed that they will help Trump become the all-powerful dictator he has always dreamed of being if he can just protect them from the non-existent demons he has constructed out of bullshit. Classic authoritarian tactic by the way.

Some are just slaves to their bigotry, racism, or misogyny and love the idea of one of their own being in charge to enact their various hatreds into law.

Some have an innate hatred for the Democratic party for no real or justifiable reason and will vote for anyone who runs against one, regardless of the utterly unqualified, immoral, inept, and criminal nature of who they end up voting for.

But whether it's greed, bigotry, or the stupidity of so many Americans that would make them vote for Trump, such careless disregard for making choices that keep America existing can not keep this country together beyond a certain percentage of Americans being such idiots I fear.

And should Trump actually win the 2024 election, the evidence of that percentage having been surpassed will be in full display.

I have yet to hear a single Republican Trump Party member anywhere give a rational, intelligent, logical, and America-preserving reason to vote for Trump in the face of so many flagrant and obvious reasons not to.

I know for certain that the Trump Party members here in this forum certainly haven't and are demonstrably incapable of ever doing so. All they have ever had to base their support of him and of others who support him and do his bidding on are lies and propaganda that never hold up to even the briefest exposure to the light of truth and reality. They are fed a constant stream of flaming bullshit nonsense about the goings-on in this country and how it's all the Democrats' fault for whatever is wrong. And they swallow it with gusto. They can't get it all down their ravenous-for-bullshit gullets fast enough.

Is this not idiocy?

The lies, half-truths, and misrepresentations of facts and reality that they base their entire political beliefs on are easily disproven and have been so many times. So why do they keep on pushing for America's destruction by supporting and voting for a man who literally promises to destroy it?

How in any way is this not idiocy? And if it isn't, what is it then?

    po,

Your litany of possibilities touch on what may be true for some.

A larger number, though, I think, merely despise the corruption and dysfunction that are SOP in DC. And. A Trump vote is a spit in the eye.

And, d@ngit, pb's convinced that if the election were simply yes/no on Trump, Trump truly would lose in a landslide.

Real world, though, the truth is that, for many, to vote for the guy who thinks that "poor kids are just as bright... as white kids" and who's still imploring, "God save the Queen, man!" is too much to ask.

And, increasingly, moderate and independent voters will not support "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap."

Replace the Doddering Old Fool with a reasonable alternative and Trump's toast. You can take that to the bank. Heck. The EFFINbank.

I agree with peebs on this one. A lot of people are simply tired of the SOS in DC and don't care because their vote doesn't matter at all and if it did, the partieS would simply ignore it if they didn't agree with it. Trump is the outlier for stupidity and corruption, but to pretend like the Ds aren't nearly as corrupt is simply turning a blind eye to the reality. Power corrupts - absolute power corrupts absolutely. We only have two viable parties thanks to the choke hold they have on the process - so of course they don't care what we think, what we want or what we need. If they have to trade off the chairs and power for 2, 4 or 6 years? They don't care because they know they'll be back in power soon.

Two colors - ONE party. The party of the global corporate machine.

But Indy!, even if people are totally fed up with DC corruption, why is that any kind of justification to facilitate handing the entire country over to a megalomaniacal, racist, immoral, entirely 100% corrupt career criminal who has already tried to overthrow an election, our democracy, our government, and our constitutional freedoms?

I do not turn a blind eye to the corruption of the Democrats. But I have this thing called a "rational perspective" in which I can factually compare the two parties and clearly see that one of them is far less corrupt and deleterious to the American people than the other is by blatant leaps and obvious bounds. And given that most Trump Party members seem perfectly happy to base their opinions about the Democrats on nothing but flat-out, provable lies, myths, and asinine propaganda, the difference in toxicity to America becomes even more stark.

And I gotta ask you, Indy!. How is it that you can be so certain that a third party candidate, and the entire new party they create, would be immune to corruption or any Machiavellian bullshit? I assume that they would also be members of the human race, with all the same failings and foibles as everyone else is. Who are these political saints that no one ever hears of, even when they manage to get on a ballot or two? What makes them so special and above it all in your eyes?

When you are dealing with a system that is so fuckedup as our is, it seems only logical to me that the first thing one would want to do is whatever was in their power to make damned sure that things don't get far worse than they already are by putting a megalomaniacal, treasonous felon who is demonstrably bent on destroying the country into the oval office.

Under Joe Biden, and thanks to his policies, America currently enjoys the most vibrant and strong economy in the entire world by any measurable statistic.

Everything isn't perfect of course, but things are far better now than at any time under Trump's administration and far better than anyone expected things to be at this point. Sure inflation got bad, but it is now constantly getting better. Unemployment is at an all-time low and has been low for a record amount of time. Wages are growing, unions are gaining strength and successes... So the idea of handing everything that Biden has accomplished over to Trump to squander, waste, and/or give away to his rich circle jerk buddies is just, I am sorry, an imbecilic and idiotic idea.

I didn't even like Biden when I voted for him. And I actually hate how he has dealt with (or not dealt with) several major issues since he was elected. But none of them are "deal-breakers" that make me want to become a willful accessory to the dissolving of the United States over. It's actually impossible for me to imagine anything within reason that Biden or any other sitting president might do that would make me wish Trump was in charge instead.

But I gotta tell you, Biden has done a far better job than I expected him to do.

But I have this thing called a "rational perspective" in which I can factually compare the two parties and clearly see that one of them is far less corrupt and deleterious to the American people than the other...

po, you are as irrational and steeped in the preferences and prejudices you bring with you to every moment of your life as anyone I've ever encountered... and you have less self-awareness than anyone in my acquaintance.

They don't call it the UNIPARTY for nuthin. The corrupt and dysfunctional DC political culture offers a good cop and a bad cop and let, well, the gullible decide which is which.

More and more every year people see that. We welcome you to come to your senses. That CNN video I posted earlier today with Van Jones makes the point that Dems never do a d@ng thing for blacks. They just show up every four years and asks blacks to vote for them. Now, young blacks are waking up.

It's exactly the same with the GOPs and, say, evangelicals.

C'mon man. Gimme a break. Wake up. DC is a scam.

    HtS,
The unemployment rate for Black Americans fell below 5% for the first time ever last April. it continues to be low. That’s a pretty dang big thing for Black Americans. Thank you, President Biden!

The rate peaked at 16.8% in May 2020 (Donald Trump’s last full year in office) and since then has fallen by an astonishing 12.1 percentage points to 4.7% now.

Also the Biden administration has awarded billions in funding to Historically Black Colleges and Universities, including more than $2.7 billion provided in the American Rescue Plan. That is also a dang big deal.

Feel free to do your own research on Google to check the veracity of my statements.

  6. by HatetheSwamp on March 7, 2024 2:58 pm

    Curt,

Why would I. I don't disagree with you.

  7. by Ponderer on March 7, 2024 3:28 pm

Wow, Curt. Hate just said that he doesn't disagree that things are in fact better under Biden than they were under Trump.

Are you as amazed as I am that there are apparently times when he is capable of agreeing with the facts?

  8. by Curt_Anderson on March 7, 2024 3:52 pm
Ponder, I am not surprised that HtS is capable of agreeing with the facts. Of course, I am a cockeyed optimist with a vast reservoir of faith in my fellow man and their capability of rehabilitation.

  9. by Ponderer on March 7, 2024 4:11 pm

Yeah. I suppose that you're right. He is capable of agreeing with facts when it suits him. That's true.

But Curt, you know this person a heck of a lot better than your average, random, fellow man.

On what grounds, given all that you know about him, just from his posts in here over a couple decades give or take now, do you bestow on him any such faith...?

  10. by HatetheSwamp on March 7, 2024 5:16 pm

The compelling truth here that pb sees is that the economy is in decent shape and the Doddering Old Fool's 16.9 points under water on that issue.

People clearly don't credit him. Why? I dunno. But, if the string-pullers don't figure that out, Trump is going to be putting his hand on the Bible in 025.
