I mean, given that Trump has declared his intentions to literally be a dictator and wipe his fat orange ass with the Constitution if reelected, does anyone think that fence-sitters will be willing to vote for such a candidate?

You can say all the horrible, negative propagandist nonsense you want to about Biden. But destroying our system of government, dismantling the Constitution, and becoming an all-powerful authoritarian emperor are not planks on his platform. Whatever kind of president Biden has been and will continue to be if reelected, the United States will survive as the country it has been for nearly a quarter millennium.

Not so with another Trump term. It's really becoming blatantly obvious. Trump actually asserts and confirms it himself.

Does anyone here believe that there are really enough undecided voters in this country who are tired enough with the old, worn out democratic form of government of co-equal branches with checks and balances, a two hundred and fifty year old Constitution, free and fair elections, and an actual justice system with laws that don't immunize corruption to vote to put a literal authoritarian, Hitler-loving dictator with blatantly stated intentions of flushing it all down his golden toilet in the White House?

...given that Trump has declared his intentions to literally be a dictator and wipe his fat orange ass with the Constitution if reelected...

I despise Trump as much as the next bubba, but I'm going to need a link to support that one.

Does anyone here believe that there are really enough undecided voters in this country who are tired enough with the old, worn out democratic form of government of co-equal branches with checks and balances, a two hundred and fifty year old Constitution...

First, pb's said that he believes that, in the end, the Dems'll do enuff ballot harvesting and diddling with mail-in ballots and deadvoting in purple states to steal another one...

    ...however...

...the wild card is how much people hate what your Swamp has done to the Constitution. If enuff people vote HatetheSwamp along with pb, "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" will lose more votes than Trump...and Trump might win. This ain't Ukraine. Biden can't cancel the election. It ain't Russia. He can't swipe more than 2-3% of the vote in purple states, even with Philadelphia and Detroit corruption on Joe's side.

So, the question is how much people despise your Swamp, imo.

I don’t think so, ponderer, in answer to your headline question. If you look at the general election polls, Trump and Biden are tied or within a point or two of each other. Both candidates are hovering around the mid 40s. Eventually the 10% or so undecided voters will have to make a choice. I believe that Trump is closer to his ceiling than Biden is to his. I believe there are a lot of Democrat leaning voters who are hoping against hope that there will be a white knight candidate to run in place of Biden. But come next November I don’t think voters will allow Donald Trump to return to the White House.

You are such a dreamer, Curt.

Remember. If the Doddering Old Fool wins the popular vote by 2%, Trump wins the election... cheating notwithstanding.

  4. by HatetheSwamp on January 5, 2024 9:22 am

    Curt,

Take note. Last week Vegas had Trump +150, the Flatulent Fool +185.

    Now?

It's Trump +160 but "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" is now +245... and that figures in the cheating.

Get your Trump wager in now... before the odds shift again!!!!! Baha haha, ha!

Ds looking forward to another lesser of two evils contest because it's the only kind they can win.

  6. by Ponderer on January 5, 2024 1:59 pm

And Indy!, if that's all the choice we are ever given, I will always go for the lesser of the two evils.

No one has as yet ever given me a good reason why choosing the worse of two evils could ever work to the country's benefit.

Especially when the worse of the two evils has expressly declared his intentions to make the presidency into a dictatorship while shitcanning the Constitution...

"It's a choice between the lesser of two evils" is the hackneyed philosophy of the unsophisticated and cynical losers.

EVERY choice is between the lesser of two evils. Choices are also between greater of two benefits. We all make choices throughout our lives on everything from menu items, appliances, matrimonial mates, career options and where to live. Every choice has its pros and cons. We weigh these options in making a choice. If one side of the ledger has all the evils or all the benefits, it's not really a choice. It's an automatic.

It's especially true when it comes to voting. It's rare when a voter is in complete agreement with any politician on every issue. I don't know why anybody would expect it. I love my wife but we don't necessarily make the same choices on everything, but we compromise when it's necessary.

If we are smart, we will choose the candidate who we think can positively impact more of issues we care about. If you are not so smart, you will vote for Maryanne Williamson, RFK Jr. or Cornel West or somebody else that has zero chance of becoming president guaranteeing they won't be involved in legislation on your pet issues. Of course, the worst choice is not voting at all if you live in a swing state.

"The lesser of two evils" types who have a disdain for the two major parties, usually have a juvenile understanding of politics. They might want the president to outlaw all internal combustion engines by proclamation or maybe want the president to outlaw guns. But an American president is limited by the US Constitution and political realities. The most positive changes are generally accomplished incrementally.

"You are a prisoner of Swamp thinking." --HtS

    Thinking beats not thinking.

The only reason to encourage the "lesser of two evils" defeatism is if you know that person's default vote is for Trump anyway.

    That was brilliantly said, Curt.
