Two Georgia election workers are seeking as much as $43 million for false assertions from Rudolph Giuliani that they had sought to swing the 2020 outcome against Donald Trump.

Rudolph W. Giuliani’s lawyer told jurors on Monday that the tens of millions of dollars in damages two Georgia election workers are seeking from him in a defamation suit “will be the end of Mr. Giuliani,” likening an award of that scale to a civil death penalty.

The Idaho State Journal has an excellent report on this trial:

The claims about the election workers were quickly debunked by Georgia officials, who found no improper counting of ballots.

Giuliani conceded in July that he made public comments falsely claiming Freeman and Moss committed fraud while counting ballots. But Giuliani argued that the statements were protected by the First Amendment.

Giuliani has pleaded not guilty in the criminal case and maintains he had every right to raise questions about what he believed to be election fraud."

Did Rudy forget everything he learned in law school? The First Amendment does NOT protect slanderers! This is probably the most egregious case of defamation I've read about, mainly because of the power disparity between the victims and amplified perpetrators.

Did Rudy even attend law school? 🤔

Rudy is doubling down on his defamation of Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss. Given his dire financial straits, he must figure that he's 80 and they cannot get blood out of turnip. He's also being sued by his former lawyer for non-payment of services and a female employee for stiffing her (double entendre) on wages. The judge could order the sale of Rudy's assets to pay the judgment against him, but I don't know if he'd get kicked out of his house onto the street.

Dec. 12 (UPI) -- The judge overseeing Rudy Giuliani's defamation trial said Tuesday he may have again defamed the two Georgia election workers at the center of the trial in comments outside the courtroom.

"Of course I don't regret it," Giuliani said of those past comments targeting the Fulton County election workers. "They were engaging in changing votes."

"Everything I said about them is true," Giuliani said as he stood in front of reporters and accused the women again of wrongdoing with no evidence.

The only person treated more unfairly by the SwampMedia than Trump is Rudy.

    HtS,
Explain that last post. Specifically, how do you figure that the notorious Rudy G is being treated unfairly by the media or anyone? He's as guilty as sin and he's still repeating his defamatory remarks.

  6. by HatetheSwamp on December 12, 2023 1:36 pm

    Guilt as sin.

He may be. But, how could you know? I dunno. Not a fair word has been written about him that I have seen... in a looooooooong time.

  7. by Curt_Anderson on December 12, 2023 1:43 pm
Truth of the allegations is a defense against defamation. There is zero evidence that these two Georgia election workers changed votes. Rudy has not uncovered any evidence that there was any vote changing by these two ladies. He still repeating his defamatory comments to journalists on the courthouse steps. He doesn’t regret it, or deny it. How much more of a smoking gun do you need?

  8. by HatetheSwamp on December 12, 2023 1:54 pm

All I'm saying is that Rudy is treated worse by the SwampMedia even than Trump and I distrust all reporting about him.

  9. by Curt_Anderson on December 12, 2023 2:09 pm
So you're basically like Rudy and his unfounded claims about the election workers. You don't have any examples or evidence that the media is unfairly or inaccurately reporting on Rudy, but that doesn't stop you from claiming it's so.

  10. by HatetheSwamp on December 12, 2023 2:25 pm

I'm merely noting that the SwampMedia treats Rudy abominably and I no longer read reports about him.

  11. by Curt_Anderson on December 12, 2023 2:42 pm
That's more or less what I said. You operate out of willful ignorance. You can honestly claim that you don't see any fair or accurate reporting on Rudy because you studiously don't look.

But you cannot claim you have any examples of unfair or inaccurate reporting on Rudy.

Bullfernerner. When Rudy was Mayor, I lived outside of NYC. I listened to WABC every day. I've been observing the SwampMedia mistreatment since he was US Attorney there.

When he hooked up with Trump, I was stunned to note that he's treated even worse than OrangeMan. It must be a New York thing. In any event, I always ignore stories about him...and have for years.

  13. by Curt_Anderson on December 12, 2023 3:10 pm
WABC is talk radio, and conservative talk radio at that, what did you expect?

WABC doesn't broadcast here in Oregon. The regular media was quite laudatory of "America's Mayor" in the early part of this century.

  14. by HatetheSwamp on December 13, 2023 1:53 am

Back in the day, on WABC, the show that preceded Rush was THE JOY BEHAR SHOW. Conservative talk radio, eh?

Rudy Guiliani has gotten a total, utter and complete pass on his unbelievable crimes (and just stupid mistakes). And rather than take advantage of his situation as "Mayor of the USA" (or whatever that ludicrous title was) and retiring and keeping his mouth shut and writing a self-aggrandizing book every now and then and letting the GOP media system turn it into another fake "best seller" by having some rich dude buy up 10K copies on day 1 and give them away to chump red staters or use them in his fireplace to keep warm... Rudy has instead chosen to push his luck by aligning himself with the most corrupt and outright worst president in the history of the word "president". He deserves whatever he gets and FAR more - and if everyone knew the real story behind his criminal machinations behind 9/11? He'd be sent to do hard labor in the US version of Siberia (wherever that is).
