If she's on any party's presidential ballot, pb's 100% there! She's the most insightful political thinker of this century.

"Zelensky has already taken control of the media, outlawed opposition political parties & Ukraine's Orthodox Christian church. Now he has just declared the cancellation of the March presidential elections. Even South Vietnam and Iraq held elections during wars. Biden claims his mission is to defend democracies and defeat autocracies. Yet he continues to take money from our pockets to underwrite a war of one corrupt autocracy (Ukraine) against another (Russia)."

Gang,

Since before Russia crossed the border, pb was saying that defeating Russia in Ukraine is crucial to US interests...AND...

...that "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap's" Ukraine policy is weak and reactive, typically unimaginative and inept.

pb's still in favor of defeating Russia...but not of supporting Zelenskyy's power grab in Ukraine, nor of the Doddering Old Fool's attempt to feed the US war industry.

Tulsi has nailed it.

Mike Johnson is correct in separating support for Israel from support for Ukraine. It's long past time for the US to have a conversation about what we hope to achieve in Ukraine.

Do you remember when Hillary Clinton said that Tulsi Gabbard was being “groomed by the Russians“? Tulsi Gabbard responded by filing a lawsuit against Hillary Clinton for defamation. I think I know why Tulsi Gabbard dropped the lawsuit.

Remember, back in the day, when John Birch Society types said that people who questioned LBJ on the war were pinko commies? That's Hillary and you in this century. Oh, how what it means to be progressive has changed...

    ...FOR THE WORSE!!!!!

  3. by Curt_Anderson on November 8, 2023 9:38 am
I don’t remember that…because it didn’t happen. The John Birch Society supported and campaigned for Barry Goldwater against LBJ.

You're thinking that the John Birch Social opposed the war? and the fight against Communism?

  5. by Curt_Anderson on November 8, 2023 9:52 am
No. Birchers were always ardent Republicans.

  6. by HatetheSwamp on November 8, 2023 9:57 am

Another way for pb to make his point is to note that what it means to be GOP has evolved in a very positive way over the years. Today, the GOP is the home of openness and inclusion, acceptance, diversity, tolerance, FREETHINKING and every good thing.

  7. by Curt_Anderson on November 8, 2023 10:03 am
Yes, Republicans have moved on from the John Birch Society to Qanon. Congratulations!

  8. by HatetheSwamp on November 8, 2023 10:15 am

Yeah. Tulsi: the QAnon pin-up girl...a genuine, as you've noted, PILF.

I have a problem with turning our backs on Ukraine. We've done a lot already and if we quit cold, that's what we'll be known for. Turning our backs on people we support. We've already made a mess out of doing that, so I wouldn't want to just randomly drop them off the face of the earth.

Maybe in a "reassessment" we can negotiate with the Euro countries about helping more. The Poles have been doing a much larger share of the support. I think we need to let Europe take care of it, and we'll add where we can.

We knew what Ukraine was when we got involved. That shouldn't be any surprise now. Do we want them in NATO? maybe not.

We've learned a lot about the new "superweapons" that were supposed to be invincible. They're not. Our old SAMs have knocked out the "hypersonic" missiles China, Russia, and Iran said couldn't be shot down. The invincible British and German tanks aren't all they were cranked up to be. And the invincible Russian military machine isn't. So it's a bunch of good lessons for all sides.

    post script,

I believe our major antagonists have had this all planned out. They're all watching what is going on, and how we react. From our southern border they've been abusing for decades, to the Koreas, to Taiwan, to Ukraine, to Palestine. It brings all four of them to ensure we're too fractured to protect ourselves.

    Bang on, OD!

No one here's more hawkish on Ukraine than am I. It's the string-pullers that bother me.

Zelensky Cancels Elections To Focus On Fighting For Democracy

"Zelensky now has absolute control of Ukrainian media, outlawed opposition political parties and Ukraine’s Orthodox Church, declared martial law, and uses absolute power under martial law to cancel presidential elections. So much for Biden’s false narrative that the world is in an existential fight to protect democracies from autocracies, wasting billions of US tax dollars."
