I happened on to YouTube as the roll was being called. I saw about the last third and noted that no GOP but Johnson received a vote...and I began to suspect.

IMO Johnson just stepped in front of a speeding train. Bless his heart.

He has been voting against Ukraine funding. I didn't think the GOPmods'd vote for that.

  2. by HatetheSwamp on October 25, 2023 12:08 pm

pb watched the speeches by Hakeem Jeffries and Johnson after the vote.

Yikes! Jeffries is a hard-nosed partisan hooligan. Johnson is a kindhearted gentleman...probably too kindhearted.

  3. by HatetheSwamp on October 25, 2023 2:01 pm

    Here's a video of Johnson's speech.

    He's clearly a "self-described" Christian.

He's conservative. But, he ain't Jim Jordan, nor MTG.

This was written by a Facebook friend. I agree with her 100%.

A couple comments from our new Speaker of the House that pertain personally to me and my wonderful spouse, whom I am privileged and honored to be married to, despite the efforts of this guy:

"Homosexual marriage is the dark harbinger of chaos and sexual anarchy that could doom even the strongest republic," Johnson wrote in on editorial.

“States have many legitimate grounds to proscribe same-sex deviate sexual intercourse,” Johnson wrote in an op-ed, calling it a public health concern.

He said, "acceptance of same-sex marriage could place our entire democratic system in jeopardy by eroding its foundation.”

Every single House Republican voted for this guy. So, no one should be surprised when I don't feel like voting for folks who characterize my marriage as the "dark harbinger of chaos" that will destroy America. F**k this guy, and f**k everyone who agrees with him. In reality, my marriage is far more precious than his, as I had to fight for mine, where people like him can get married on a TV game show without a second's thought, and then run off to Vegas two days later for a divorce.

    Donna,
When I referred to his extremist views in my article (see link) that most Americans disagree with, I had primarily in mind his homophobia and his views on abortion which are issues that motivate voters.

Incidentally, one doesn't have to be gay to resent and oppose government intrusion into our private lives or the denial of the constitutional rights of anybody.

Oh I know, Curt, and I appreciate your support.

"He's conservative. But, he ain't Jim Jordan, nor MTG." -Hate

Of course he isn't. He's Mike Johnson. And I just saw a clip of Matt Gaetz telling Steve Bannon in an interview that Mike Johnson's election to the Speakership is proof of MAGA's ascendancy. He couldn't be happier that such a Flaming MAGA Hat got the job.

It's not called the MAGA Republican party for nothing you know, Bill.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on October 25, 2023 8:58 pm

    po,

The GOP is the home of openness and inclusion, acceptance, tolerance, diversity and most of all FREETHINKING. Mike Johnson proves that...

And, that is beyond your understanding.

  9. by Curt_Anderson on October 25, 2023 9:32 pm
That's right, HtS! The GOP is even open to those who oppose inclusion, acceptance, tolerance, diversity and free thinking. In fact they are especially open to those who oppose inclusion, acceptance, tolerance, diversity and free thinking.

  10. by HatetheSwamp on October 26, 2023 4:35 am

In fact they are especially open to those who oppose inclusion, acceptance, tolerance, diversity and free thinking.

I just never know, Curt, because I believe that you think for yourself...but I'm never certain.

    Are you joshin?

  11. by HatetheSwamp on October 26, 2023 6:03 am

Donna, et.al.: He said, "acceptance of same-sex marriage could place our entire democratic system in jeopardy by eroding its foundation.”

Before anyone else here now was here, save Curt, pb was saying, on the old Philosophy board, that same-sex marriage will only become law in the US if it's foisted on an innocent American populace by the Supreme Court. pb was exactly right...as per usual.

I distrust Donna's second-hand quote because, as we well know, the EFFIN-LGBTQIA+++ SwampMedia lies about people on the right as often it tells the truth.

Having said that, I agree with the sentiment of Donna's quote.

I defy anyone here to demonstrate that our "entire democratic system" is better off for the foisting of same-sex marriage on the nation. Please do.

Life in this constitutional republic is as chaotic and dysfunctional as it ever has been since the foisting. There's a cogent argument to be made that the foisting of same-sex marriage on the nation elected Donald Trump. Thanks, woke wackos.

If a crimson state passes a law outlawing same-sex marriage, pb'd support it...based on the principle of the Dobbs decision, that these matters should be settled "by the people and their elected representatives."

If that happens and the Supreme Court signs on, same-sex marriage will still be legal in the United States...

...because this is a representative constitutional republic.

Still, do you deranged woke, white electric limousine lovin progressive Swampcultists understand what the role of the Speaker of the House is? I'll bet any one of you that Johnson's not going to be bringing a bill to the House floor outlawing same-sex marriage.

    Any takers!!!!!?

WHAT YOU'VE DONE, DONNA, IS POLLUTE OUR DIALOG WITH A STRAWMAN.

But, that's okay. It's what you progressives do.

    Thanks a ton!

  12. by Donna on October 26, 2023 6:36 am

If he brought a bill like that to the floor, it would lose, but I hope he tries because that would further marginalize the antedeluvians in Congress.

  13. by HatetheSwamp on October 26, 2023 6:58 am

    Not taking the bet, eh?

    Donna,

Here's what I think you're doing to yourselves. You remember Ronald Reagan. I voted against him in 80 and 84. But, I remember the left's rhetoric. It was vile and angry, accusing Reagan of every kind of personal evil.

Ol pb disagreed with Reagan on policy and ideology but, like nearly all of America, I could see that Reagan was, personally, a nice man.

I watched the Jeffries and Johnson speeches in the House after the vote. Jeffries came across to me as a partisan hooligan. Johnson reached out to Dems and came across as a thoughtful, nice man.

I hope you woke, white electric limousine lovin progressive Swampcultists stomp your feet and EFFINscream "antediluvian!!!!!" because those "low information voters" you love to look down your nose at, will see nuthin but a soft-spoken, nice, clean-cut southern gentleman.

    America will bulldoze you.

  14. by Ponderer on October 26, 2023 7:08 am

    "I distrust Donna's second-hand quote because," -Hate

...it states a fact about him that you don't want to acknowledge, Bill. We get it. Flaming MAGA Republicans like you are not prone to accepting truths that are uncomfortable to them. It's a knee-jerk reaction for you to simply deny what you don't like. Biden winning the election fair and square for example. Trump being a wanton career criminal in the White House for example. The GOP being the home of rejection and exclusion, denial, intolerance, white supremacy and most of all CLOSED-MINDEDNESS for example.

"I defy anyone here to demonstrate that our "entire democratic system" is better off for the foisting of same-sex marriage on the nation. Please do." -Hate

Our entire democratic system is made better any time that a minority that has traditionally been unconstitutionally deprived of its civil rights and equal protection under the law has been restored. Much as to the contrary how it is hurt any time that any minority's constitutional rights are taken away. I don't expect you will comprehend or understand this, Bill. But you asked.

"If a crimson state passes a law outlawing same-sex marriage, pb'd support it..." -Hate

What you are literally saying is that states should be able to decide if they want to abide by the Constitution or not. If a state wants to deprive an entire minority their constitutionally protected equal rights under the law, then they should be allowed to just go ahead and do it according to you. And you don't even understand how un-American and fascist that is, Bill.

You have no comprehension whatsoever what a blank check that would be to any state with a government that wants tofuck over anyone they want to for whatever reason they want to. You want to deny blacks from being served in your restaurant? You want to make any public expression of homosexuality punishable with jail time? You want to deny a certain political party from voting? Well you can't do that kinda stuff in the United States, but you can do it in this red state! Yeah that'd be a great way to run a democracy.

Why do you think that it's only fascism when the federal government does it?

"WHAT YOU'VE DONE, DONNA, IS POLLUTE OUR DIALOG WITH A STRAWMAN." -Hate

Boy, did she hit every last nerve you had or what? Johnson said what he said, Bill. Denying it doesn't change reality so that he didn't.

  15. by Ponderer on October 26, 2023 7:09 am

Sorry for the all-bold. Not intentional.

  16. by Donna on October 26, 2023 7:10 am

    "America will bulldoze you."

LOL! You don't even believe that. A few days ago you said that the Dems would take the House in 2024.

  17. by HatetheSwamp on October 26, 2023 7:34 am

If you woke, white electric limousine lovin lib Swampcultists attack Johnson in the way libs did Reagan, I absolutely do believe that low information voters will bulldoze you...take that to the bank.

All those suburban white women who swing elections in purple states will see him as a brother figure or son or grandson figure. When he shows up to campaign for their House or Senate candidate, he'll be money.

  18. by HatetheSwamp on October 26, 2023 7:42 am

    ""I distrust Donna's second-hand quote because," -Hate

...it states a fact about him that you don't want to acknowledge, Bill." -po

Until you give me a reliable link, I won't believe it. Show me the link.

You wacked, woke, white electric limousine lovin libs lie about GOPs all the time. Donna acknowledged that the quote is second hand...from EFFINFacebook! I have no doubt that you yearn for it to be accurate...

...but it's the sort of lie y'nes tell as naturally as breathing.

So, simple enuff. Demonstrate that Johnson said, or wrote, that. I'll believe it.

    I agree with it. NBD.

  19. by Ponderer on October 26, 2023 7:42 am

I love that hilarious tactic you use all the time, Bill. You try to scare us into not complaining about the MAGA Republican party by asserting that it will only help the MAGA Republican party. It always entices a giggle outta me because it's so stupid.

  20. by Donna on October 26, 2023 7:43 am

I'm amused at the lengths you'll go to in order to goad others into an argument.

  21. by HatetheSwamp on October 26, 2023 7:48 am

    Donna. po,

pb's merely speaking his own honest truth. That you suppose that he's being insincere is fascinating.

  22. by Donna on October 26, 2023 7:52 am

Here ya go, Hts. If you don't believe Mike Johnson said or wrote that, see the link below. It contains hyperlinks to opinion pieces Johnson wrote which corroborate the quote you're questioning and much more.

    kesq.com

  23. by HatetheSwamp on October 26, 2023 8:17 am

I didn't say that I don't believe he said it. I doubted your second-hand EFFINFacebook quote... because people on the political extremes lie about t'other side as a matter of course.

But, Donna! Don't you think it'd have been honest of you note that Johnson wrote those things WHEN GEORGE W BUSH WAS IN HIS FIRST TERM!!!!!? BEFORE BARACK OBAMA WAS ELECTED TO THE SENATE!!!!!!?

Oy freakin vey!!!!! C'mon man. Gimme a break.

If he really thinks that today, don't you suppose that you could find a more recent quote? This is precisely the dishonesty I'd expect from po.

No, Donna. Your quote was dishonest. You've been busted!!!!!

  24. by Ponderer on October 26, 2023 8:31 am

So you admit that he said it. Great! Thanks for admitting you were in error to deny it. I wouldn't have thought you were up to admitting you were wrong, but I gotta give you that one, Bill.

And of course everything else that you posted to obfuscate , deflect, and distract from the fact that you were wrong is entirely made up of irrelevant and inconsequential blather.

You were wrong... so my wife is a liar. You're a hoot, Bill! 🤣

  25. by HatetheSwamp on October 26, 2023 8:34 am

    po,

I EFFINknew that Johnson's elevation to Speaker would drive you wacked, woke, white electric limousine lovin libs over t'edge...but I never imagined...

This is gunna be fun! Keehee, ha.

  26. by Ponderer on October 26, 2023 8:42 am

It hasn't, Bill. You're wrong again. As usual.

We knew going into this that whoever eventually got elected would have to be a MAGA Hat who was approved by the other handful of MAGA Hats in the House, since the MAGA Hats are in control of the MAGA Republican party. It's not really any surprise at all. We're quite used to the MAGA Republican party trying to take over the country by any means they can dream up. We're also quite used to them failing in that effort every single time.

  27. by Donna on October 26, 2023 10:23 am

Hts, what has Mike Johnson said or written since GWB's first term that would indicate that he no longer holds any of those opinions on LGBT people?

If you or anyone can't show us anything to that effect, then we have to assume that he still holds those opinions.

  28. by HatetheSwamp on October 26, 2023 11:23 am

    Donna,

It don't work that way...for the Reagan reason. If your side's going to suggest that the gentle, soft-spoken guy that low information voters will be seeing on their TV screens and appearing beside purple state House and Senate GOP candidates is a virulent homophobe, take your shot.

What strikes me is that every purple AND BLUE district moderate House member voted for him for Speaker at a time that the GOP Conference was reeeeeeeeally pi$$ed. Convincing low information suburban female voters?, piece o cake!

I know that those of you who are committed homophiles started out convinced...but low information voters? In 024? pb'd search for another message were he you.

My guess is that Johnson's thinking has matured in the past 20 years. That's my guess. What I know is that moderate Americans are anxious to forgive mistakes of the past.

  29. by Ponderer on October 26, 2023 12:19 pm

"What strikes me is that every purple AND BLUE district moderate House member voted for him for Speaker at a time that the GOP Conference was reeeeeeeeally pi$$ed." -Hate

What part of the MAGA Hats are in control of the MAGA Republican party are you having difficulty understanding? The MAGA wing of the Republican party now totally controls the Republican party, which is now more accurately referred to as the MAGA Republican party. Of course those GOPs GOMPs who you referred to went with their marching orders. They are now all members in good standing in the newly officiated MAGA Republican Party.

Don't blame ME for what they are!

  30. by HatetheSwamp on October 26, 2023 12:31 pm

    po,

I know that you are MAGA-obsessed but, po, the stuff your hun points out about about Johnson takes MAGA to a whole new dimension. As pb's splained in the past, Trump is the most moderate candidate for the GOP nomination as far as LGBTQ issues and abortion are concerned.

If what Donna's saying is true, MAGA doesn't dominate the GOP. Something far to the right of MAGA is asserting control.

    How bout them apples!!!!!?

  31. by Donna on October 27, 2023 8:11 am

My guess is that Mike Johnson is the same homo/transphobic asshole he was 20 years ago. His likeable demeanor doesn't change who he is inside; actually it makes him more dangerous to people like Sheri and I.

How exactly, can he "threaten" you? I'm really interested? Is it that you feel like he'll pass laws that will name you because of who you both are? Is it that you believe he, alone, will pass laws for house to house searches? I'd honestly like to understand the paranoia.

  34. by Donna on October 27, 2023 8:48 am

Would you not condemn a politician who doesn't think that you should have equal rights and votes against you having equal rights?

  35. by Ponderer on October 27, 2023 8:59 am

Only if it's a Democrat he would. He doesn't give a flyingfuck whose rights MAGA Republicans take away. Since as a straight white male, od would be among the very last people whose rights they would take away.

What? He was an attorney arguing his case for a client? That's his EFFINjob. What do you expect!!!!!?

  43. by Donna on October 28, 2023 2:48 pm

They were clearly his personal views, none of which he's retracted, even when Hannity gave him an opportunity.

What? He was an attorney arguing his case for a client? That's his EFFINjob. What do you expect!!!!!?

In defense of a client, the worst thing they can do is to interject their personal views. EVERYTHING must be linked by the law to protect the client. the lawyers' opinion doesn't matter.

That's why I asked indy if one of the lawyers he hates supported a person (epstein? i think?) if his support was because of the person being a defendant or something else.
