I doubt they will be reading much of the indictment much on Fox.

We should take bets on whether she ever gets to the actual indictment or spends the entire hour on her overwritten introduction. 🙂

I caught a little bit of MSNBC the other night. Sometimes - if I'm up at 4am - I'll watch a little Alex Wagner just to see what kind of wingnutty thing has the Ds all up in arms at any given time. Haha... okay that's a lie - I just check-in occasionally to see how hot Alex looks that day. Anyway, one thing I totally forgot was MSNBC's weird habit of introducing their talking heads as "the GREAT (so-and-so)." Know what I'm saying? Like...

"Let's talk about Trump. Our guest tonight is the GREAT Jonathon Capehart..."

Does that seem odd to anyone else? I mean if the guest you're bringing in is Woodward and/or Bernstein - I can see referring to them as "great" (even if it is a little over the top). But these are just the regular MSNBC schmoes. Weird or no? 🤔

Joy Reed actually read quite a bit of it before Rachel came on. But Rachel read from a good portion and did a Clif Notes version. It's quite a few pages to go through on live TV.

Watch it yourself. I doubt that Fox is reading much of it yet. It's going to take them awhile to spin some part of the indictments into something that they think can present that helps Trump.

Fox news just had two hours of the indictment and is continuing...
FOUR charges... Absolutely zero on Jan 6. That's interesting. So the second civil war. Not mentioned... mmmmm....

I wouldathought there would be some meat to this...

What was the "indictment" that would make him ineligible to run for president? I didn't see anything there that was close. Someone please refresh me about this "slam dunk" "absolutely" "definitive proof" of not allowing him to either run for office or stay in office. Please cite the law. What you "feel" I don't care about.

    OD,
There is not an indictment or even a conviction that would preclude anybody from running for president. Eugene V. Debs ran for president while in prison.

  6. by Ponderer on August 1, 2023 7:29 pm

I can't wait to read this thing. From everything I'm hearing about it, Donald Trump will have a very difficult time providing any defense at all.

I hope they air this trial live for the American people. People need to see what happens in that courtroom. It would make it a lot harder for Fox and all the other right wingnut media sites to spin it into something that it isn't. People will be able to see for themselves.

  7. by Indy! on August 1, 2023 9:14 pm

I would not watch a single moment of it if they did air it live - but agree it absolutely should be aired live. There will be a large percentage of wingdings that won't believe a word - but I do believe it will change a lot of minds if the prosecutor(s) can actually present a good case against him (as opposed to another Robert Mueller-ish disaster).

Meanwhile... Give us the Cliffs Notes version on Debs, Curt.

    Please. 🙂

Okay, thanks for that. Again, a rumor I was just checking on with folks that might know.

So, gang. On legal stuff, I check out Alan Dershowitz, Jonathan Turley and Andy McCarthy.

None of them are even taking this indictment seriously.

What's the left doing to justify it?

    Indy,
In the election of 1920, Eugene V. Debs, the Socialist Party presidential candidate, polled nearly a million votes without ever hitting the campaign trail.

Debs was behind bars in the federal penitentiary in Atlanta, Georgia, serving a 10-year sentence for sedition. It was a not a bum rap. Debs had defiantly disobeyed a law he deemed unjust, the Sedition Act of 1918.

The act was an anti-free speech measure passed at the behest of President Woodrow Wilson. The law made it illegal for a U.S. citizen to “willfully utter, print, write, or publish any disloyal, profane, scurrilous, or abusive language about the United States government” or to discourage compliance with the draft or voluntary enlistment into the military.

    Wow.

You know, even Mary was able to watch her own son pay for your sins, Bill.

And you can't bring yourself to watch Trump pay for yours?

  13. by Ponderer on August 2, 2023 6:08 am

Bill, do you plan on at least reading the indictment?

  14. by HatetheSwamp on August 2, 2023 6:37 am

Not unless one of you gives me a reason to. My three guys, Alan Dershowitz, Jonathan and Andy McCarthy wouldn't use it in an outhouse.

How about so you won't come across as a willfully ignorant buffoon intentionally ignoring what is happening to your Fearless Leader.

You know, Bill, you actually remind me a lot of how it's told in the indictment that Trump refused to listen to all his advisors and lawyers and everyone he hired who were telling him that there was no evidence of result altering fraud and that he lost the election fair and square... And then he went on to listen to and use the only people who told him what he wanted to hear, even though he commented in private that they were crazy and he knew he lost (Read the indictment...).

"My three guys, Alan Dershowitz, Jonathan and Andy McCarthy wouldn't use it in an outhouse." -Hate

You mean your Rudy Giuliani, your Sidney Powell, and your My Pillow guy? Yeah good luck with them. Their faces are going to be buried in egg.
