Even as Ms. Sinema and Mr. Manchin, both Democrats, have drawn fire from the left for their efforts to shrink and reshape Mr. Biden’s proposals, they have won growing financial support from conservative-leaning donors and business executives in a striking display of how party affiliation can prove secondary to special interests and ideological motivations when the stakes are high enough.

Progressives are less amused and have accused both senators of undermining their party’s agenda at the behest of special interests.

GOPs often gripe about Rinos and lament that the Dems don't have to deal with Dinos. And, normally, Dinos have not been a problem for Dems but with wacky, fringe morons who follow Senators into the potty to harass them when they only want to pee in peace? And, when they're being asked to compromise their beliefs for the sake of a "feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap?"

Not smart, not smart.

I am not sure who is a DINO in your book. Are you saying Sinema and Manchin are DINO's? In my book it's The Squad who are the DINO's. They are the ones who voted against Biden's and all the other House Democrat's infrastructure bill.

Manchin, who has a 60% approval rating in WV. I disagree with his constituents' views but I understand Manchin for representing the conservative people of West Virginia.

Sinema, who was a Green Party member and worked on Ralph Nader's presidential bid, is an inscrutable contrarian. She isn't the progressive that she campaigned as. That explains her 42 percent approval among registered voters.

Curt - The Newsweek piece below explains why "The Squad" voted against the infrastructure bill.

Specifically how is Sen. Manchin serving the interests of the people of West Virginia in his opposition to key parts of the Democratic infrastructure bill and Build Back Better?

According to the poll cited in the piece below, you're right. West Virginians also love Trump and hate Biden. Not coincidentally they're also one of America's poorest states.

    Curt,

I'm saying that Manchin and Sinema are Dinos. The Squad voted against the bipartisan bill because they knew those GOPs gave them cover. They are enthusiastic supporters of party leadership where it counts.

    ----------

    Donna,

Not so long ago, Manchin appeared for an interview on Fox by Bret Baier. Manchin splained his misgivings over the bill that the flatulent fool has invested his political capital in. Baier asked Manchin straight out why he's not a GOP and Manchin said, "Look, Bret, I'm a West Virginia Democrat."

What's going on here is that the national Dem party has chosen to make itself the party of coastal elites, such as yourself. Where Dems have outreach to non snooty people, it's through those rare old school Dems precisely like Manchin, who are fewer and farther between.

What part of Build Back Better is snooty?

  6. by HatetheSwamp on November 22, 2021 8:29 am

I'm not certain that a piece of legislation can be snooty but the people who support it are, generally, white, upper middle and upper class and tend to be overeducated. They not on disagree with but also condescend on the interests and concerns of the people in the hollers and farms and small towns of middle America...and, sometimes, people of color in our cities as well.

Well unless you cite a specific example of what you're yappin about, I'll chalk up your comments to watching junk news.

There are none so blind, eh!!!!

I have been observing and condemning progressive sanctimony here and old forum for years and have done it scores of times.

At the risk of being called sanctimonious, you speak too much in generalities to have a reasonable conversation.

"I'm not certain that a piece of legislation can be snooty but the people who support..." HtS

The less of a point you have and the fewer facts on your side the more verbose you become.

    Donna,

Thing is. Since before po and you showed up here, I have been, issue by issue, on point, time after time, illustrated the holier than thou attitude toward progressives have toward people who think differently than you. You don't remember the scores of times I've made that point, issue after issue? Time after time? Either you do or you're suffering from a mental illness.

What I haven't done as often is snort over examples of you coastal white elites thinking you're protecting people of color who oppose your condescension in huge numbers. But, I've done it.

    And, it's knee slappingly hilarious!

I talked to my mom yesterday as I do every Sunday. I never bring up politics, but often she does. Despite the many times she's brought up the junk news story about Biden supposedly allowing migrants from all over the world to stream into the US unabated, and despite me telling her every time that it isn't true, she brought it up again yesterday and once again, I told her that it wasn't true.

Americans who believe malarkey like that are going to automatically oppose anything the Democrats propose, even legislation that would vastly improve their lives. This, in a nutshell, is the Republican game plan.
