And they're already out there screaming that we need to strengthen the H1-B Visa program to bring more tech-savvy immigrants into the US - definitely NOT a MAGA idea, in fact it's anti- MAGA.
The problem for Trump is that he brought all of these guys into his administration who are looking out for #1, themselves , and who have their own agendas. And the knives are already out.
We're over three weeks away from the inauguration, and already Trump 2.0 is a disaster.

"definitely NOT a MAGA idea, in fact it's anti-MAGA."
Could you splain how?
"The problem for Trump is that he brought all of these guys into his administration who are looking out for #1, themselves, and who have their own agendas."
If you haven't already, you should read Doris Kearns Goodwin's, A TEAM OF RIVALS, about Lincoln's presidency.
pb's been trying to splain. Trump ain't a conservative. He's a puuuuuure pragmatist. Who knows if this experiment he's concocting for his Administration is going to work, but pb thinks it's worth the effort.

Half of Elon's Teslas are manufactured in Shanghai, and he's currently building a massive battery factory in Shanghai.
Do you actually think that MAGAs, the people who put Trump back in the White House, support that?
by HatetheSwamp on December 27, 2024 12:27 pm
Half. The rest?
by Indy! on December 27, 2024 12:30 pm
MAGAts don't understand people like Leon and Trump ARE the problem. They ARE the "swamp". America is not run by politicians concerned about the country - it's run by billionaires concerned with their wallets and nothing else.
by Donna on December 27, 2024 12:42 pm
Yep, they're stupid about that point, which is very obvious to the rest of us.

Vivek thinks Americans are too uneducated to work in technology and is pushing hard for H1-B Visas. That goes against everything Trump was running on.

Vivek thinks Americans are too poorly educated.
Donna, what did Trump run on that creates the conflict?
by HatetheSwamp on December 28, 2024 3:48 am
Here's an interesting "Truth" from Charlie Kirk:
"If I was a smart leftist I would go all in on trying to create a schism between MAGA and TechWorld.
We must resist this.
It’s an op.
Our coalition will naturally have differing opinions. Together we beat the Democrats in November.
And now together we will save America."
Donna, et.al., what I think you and all your people on your side can't seem to understand is that MAGA, like the entire GOP, really is the home of openness and inclusion, acceptance, diversity, tolerance freedom... and love.
There definitely different opinions here. The comments on this Truth are interesting and reveal the intense diversity among MAGAs. Just imagine that among Dems, or the Squad.
Still,...
A difference between GOPs and Dems is that GOPs, and MAGAs, really do, as they say, "make the important thing the important thing."
That's my prediction.

" MAGA, like the entire GOP, really is the home of openness and inclusion, acceptance, diversity, tolerance freedom... and love."
You ridiculous man. You are the poster boy for the Theory of stupidity. The Gop is the home of greed and self interest; of hatred and racism. The most corrupt political organisation in the world.
by Donna on December 28, 2024 7:53 am
Absolutely, meagain. Their stupidity lies in that they have never been able to see that. That's why the red states continue to be the most impoverished states in America. And they're still voting for those trickle down con artists.
Btw, Elon Musk just told MAGAs on X who are livid about his advocacy for more H1B visas, "...take a big step back and FUCK YOURSELF in your face" . LOL! Then he went on to lecture to them that he's going to "go to war" with them on that issue.
I wonder how Fox News covering this.
by Indy! on December 28, 2024 10:31 am
I wonder why Leon is not banned from his own site. I've seen people get banned for FAR less - even jokes that attacked no one person, race, religion, creed or anything else in particular. Threats are not allowed on twitter.
by Donna on December 28, 2024 10:44 am
H1B visas aren't about bringing in the best talent.
I lost my tech job over 22 years ago because of H1B visas. What the company I worked for did over a 2 year period was fire all of its highest paid techies and bring in techies from third world nations like the Philippines and pay them half to 2/3 what they had been paying us.
by Curt_Anderson on December 28, 2024 11:42 am Donna,
I am sure your situation 22 years ago was personally unpleasant. Fighting for those sort of tech jobs seems to be a losing battle. I would imagine now that your job would and could be outsourced to techies overseas. It is probably no coincidence that the prices of electronics and other hi-tech items are dropping.
Many of the jobs that immigrants fill are jobs that native-born Americans disdain, like those in food harvesting, slaughterhouses, unskilled restaurant work, and other jobs that keep American food prices lower than other countries.
by Indy! on December 28, 2024 12:08 pm
Electronics prices always continue to drop due to tech advances - not HB1, Curt. It's been happening long before that law was created. There is no doubt in my mind Donna's situation is not the anomaly - it's the norm. The rule was created for billionaires to save them money they will never spend.
by Curt_Anderson on December 28, 2024 12:29 pm Indy,
As I just opined, is it really necessary in the age of the internet that foreign workers working for US companies reside in the US?
Sure, greedy billionaire and other business owners want to make more money by reducing labor costs. Likewise, greedy Walmart shoppers and other consumers want to pay less for the items they buy.
Back to the HB1 visas, are foreign workers a net gain or net loss? Like them or not, immigrants like Google founder Sergei Brim and Elon Musk created a lot of jobs. My sense is that when America attracts the best and the brightest, America is better off. As another example, consider the international players in the NBA and other sports.
by Donna on December 28, 2024 12:51 pm
Under Trump, if he and his billionaire cohorts have their way, we're going to see the largest transfer of wealth from the poor and middle class to the top .1% that's ever taken place.

Hts, you really suck at research.
x.com
by Donna on December 28, 2024 2:52 pm
From Curt's 2nd link:
"I am saying I foresee this as a national security risk. Elon is too tied in with Xi Jinping, and he wants to reform immigration policy so that SpaceX can hire foreign workers. Currently, SpaceX can’t hire foreigners because federal export control laws prohibit SpaceX from hiring foreigners. It’s an obvious national security risk—that’s why he’s angry people are calling him out."
— Laura Loomer
The coming Trump administration will be full of national security risks, not the least of which will be Trump himself if his picks are approved by the Senate.
by Donna on December 28, 2024 2:55 pm
In your defense, Hts, I quoted Musk wrong when I referenced his X quote. It was "in the face", not "in your face". Curt was still able to find it, though.
by Donna on December 28, 2024 3:05 pm
Btw, what Loomer said there is also the reason why Musk himself hasn't been able to get issued nearly as high of a security clearance as the CEOs of other aerospace corporations like Lockheed-Martin.
by HatetheSwamp on December 28, 2024 3:09 pm
Donna,
I don't understand why you don't provide links. So much of what you post here is, at the very best, 2nd or 3rd hand and distorted by your metaphorical Rachel filter that I always doubt your posts... unless you give me a legitimate reason to believe you.

"Hts, you really suck at research." -Donna
Hate would actually have to try ever doing any research at all before he could suck at it.
by Curt_Anderson on December 28, 2024 4:58 pm Indy,
I presume by your dismissal of my examples of successful immigrants, that you oppose some or all immigration. What exactly is your view on immigration?
by Indy! on December 28, 2024 5:50 pm
We're not talking about ordinary immigration, Curt. We're talking about fake immigration corporations use to lower their employee compensation numbers. This is LITERALLY foreigners taking Americans' jobs simply because they are CHEAPER - not because the corporations can't find the workers (the lie that was used to pass the rule in the first place). Just ask Donna.
To answer your question in the proper context...
I am against HB1 - the rule would not exist in any other country that actually cared about their residents.
Now - what is your stance? I'm guessing your fine expanding the rule because that would fit right in with all your other super conservative (read: GOP) positions.
by Curt_Anderson on December 28, 2024 6:37 pm I have been consistent on this. Ask Donna and Ponderer. I favor entirely open borders, no limit on immigration.
by Indy! on December 28, 2024 7:22 pm
Only because you don't live in a place with a lot of immigration. Drop 200K people into your area in the space of a month or have 200 dead immigrant bodies wash up on your hotel beaches and you'll be helping tRump build and/or pay for his wall by the next month.
Without borders there is no country - which, btw I might be perfectly fine with - but those are currently not the rules we are playing by.
by Curt_Anderson on December 28, 2024 11:29 pm Indy,
Are the 200 dead immigrant bodies that you mention Cubans? If so, that is happening because of immigration restrictions by the US and Cuba. If there was a better, safer option to come to America people would take it.
Anybody who risks drowning is obviously desperate and trying to escape harsh conditions. America is supposed to offer asylum to those seeking a better life. You know, the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
by Ponderer on December 29, 2024 7:22 am
When someone like Musk says that there's a shortage of highly skilled engineers in America, what they actually mean is that there is a shortage of engineers in America who are willing to work for the low wages that they want to pay them.
by meagain on December 29, 2024 8:17 am
Economists generally agree that the effects of immigration on the U.S. economy are broadly positive. 18 Immigrants, whether high- or low-skilled, legal or illegal, are unlikely to replace native-born workers or reduce their wages over the long-term, though they may cause some short-term dislocations in labor markets.
A rule of thumb, btw, is that one immigrant creates 1.5 jobs. wol.iza.org
by Indy! on December 29, 2024 9:42 am Your naivete is on display, Curt. You don’t even understand the problem I just outlined. It has nothing to do with the unwashed masses.
by Indy! on December 29, 2024 9:46 am To answer your question- no the bodies are not Cubans. How would Cubans end up in Oregon?
by Curt_Anderson on December 29, 2024 10:32 am So to clarify Indy, you are not saying that 200K immigrants a month land or 200 dead immigrant bodies wash up currently in Florida. It is a possible scenario you worry about happening in Oregon and elsewhere.
I still don’t understand your anti-immigration stance, or what if any immigrants you would allow in.
I have two immigrant friends. Between them they directly employed a dozen people or more.
by Indy! on December 29, 2024 2:38 pm
I am not against immigration, Curt - I am against unfettered immigration. I - unlike you - have lived in a city that was suddenly innundated with 200K people with no jobs, food, clothes, jobs, or places to stay. It DESTROYS a city's social safety net and affects every other citizen in a myriad of ways. Miami turned into the crime capital of the world overnight. You're naivé and operating from a tattered D playbook from the 1960s that just does not apply in today's world.
by Indy! on December 29, 2024 2:40 pm
And btw, as someone in Donna's post in another thread said - the HB1 program is basically indentured servitude for the people brought over to work here. They have the constant threat of deportation hanging over their heads if they don't follow orders. It's the new slavery.
by Ponderer on December 29, 2024 2:56 pm
If the Dems advocated, like Curt, for open borders, they'd never win another election.
by Donna on December 29, 2024 2:56 pm
Mine ^
by Curt_Anderson on December 29, 2024 3:58 pm Indy,
If we had open borders the problems you cited would disappear. Unscrupulous employers could not threaten immigrants with deportation. They couldn’t get away with paying below minimum wage. Immigration laws currently prevent immigrants from legally working for six months or more. Why? Who does that benefit?
Immigrants would be freer to move to where the jobs are rather than staying in Miami, NYC or wherever. If it is illegal for them to work, there is no reason to relocate. An alternative to unemployment is crime.
Donna,
If Democrats stopped parroting GOP xenophobia and instead made the positive case for immigration, we’d be better off. Besides what meagain said about immigrants being job creators, immigrants solve the worker/retiree imbalance in the Social Security system. Plus immigrants take jobs that natives eschew.
by Donna on December 29, 2024 5:37 pm
You make some good points. I'm undecided. But good luck explaining that to MAGAs as well as a lot of non-MAGAs.
Democratic politicians tend not to mention let alone advocate for open borders because it would be political suicide no matter how well they explained the benefits to their constituents.
Immigration is an even bigger issue in Europe. It's the sole reason why conservative and authoritarian politicians are becoming more popular there.
by Curt_Anderson on December 29, 2024 6:01 pm Thanks Donna.
For much of America's history, we had open borders. There were no immigration restrictions. We were proud to call ourselves "a nation of immigrants". The Statue of Liberty was not a quirky anomaly.
That is not to say, there weren't members of the Know Nothing Party and other xenophobic bigots. There was plenty of anti-Irish, anti-Italian, anti-Swedish, etc. sentiment.
Many of the worst bigots in America today descend form immigrant ancestors who faced terrible discrimination. History is lost on them, even their own.
by Donna on December 29, 2024 6:08 pm
We haven't been that America for over a century, and we never will be that America again.
by Indy! on December 29, 2024 6:51 pm
Curt - I did a half circlular argument already - we're done. You need to find new ways to build traffic - just making yourself look like a Brown Short.
