It may take the third branch of government, the judiciary, to save us from Trump tariffs.

Imagine this:

You are happy, comfortable and well-off in your nice home. Your neighbor, with whom you are friendly, is not as successful as you, but is striving to better his lot.

Because you are a good guy, you buy your neighbor's daughter's Girl Scout cookies. You also buy raffle tickets from her for a school fund raiser.

You frequent your neighbor's business which is a food truck and regularly enjoy his tacos and burritos.

You even hire him to do some lawn care and odd jobs around your house. You pay his daughter to do occasional pet-sitting.

At the end of the year, do you whine about the "deficit" and "imbalance of trade" between your family and your neighbor's family?

You do if you're a sociopathic narcissist like Trump is.

This is Trump's way of dumping all our allies so he can whine his way back into his love affair with Putin.

"Hey, Russia treats us better than Canada!"

Trump is a dictator wannabe which means he has to isolate us from all the countries with which we have play nice agreements. How is he going to invade Greenland if we're in NATO with Denmark?

  3. by Ponderer on April 3, 2025 7:40 am

Indy!, he is no longer a "dictator wannabe".

He has placed himself, with many of his EOs and flagrant dismissals of the Constitutional limits of a president, squarely and directly into full authoritarian dictator status. It will take a while for all the logistics of his plans to be in place for the whole country to be considered a dictatorship, but he himself is already there.

Like he promised he would be on Day One.

There hasn't been too much said about Russia and its allies not being hit with tariffs. The feeble reasoning about the trade being small doesn't wash since many of the affected countries do less trade with America.

I suspect he wants the Ukraine war to end so that he can announce a formal alliance with Russia.

The biggest thing is that any money coming out of Russia is watched, as is money going into the country. This makes payments a complete cluster. Those sanctions were placed on US Treasury and OFAC. That's how we know that pedojr received $3.5M wire transfer from Russian billionaire.

Since the February 24, 2022, Russian invasion of Ukraine, the scope and severity of U.S. sanctions and export controls imposed on Russia have expanded significantly. There were already sanctions in place on Russia since the country’s 2014 incursions into Ukraine, cyberattacks, malign influence, use of chemical weapons, and election meddling. Visit our Russia Country Commercial Guide for a comprehensive overview of these sanctions.

U.S. exporters should consider conducting transactional due diligence for all business involving Russia and Russian entities or individuals, and may wish to keep in mind the substantial sanctions that have been levied against the Russian banking and financial sector, which greatly complicate payments. Transportation and logistics in/out of Russia have also become more complicated, in part due to restrictions on air and maritime links. These actions have been coordinated extensively with European and Asian allies. U.S. exporters should be aware that the United Kingdom, European Union, Canada, Japan, Australia, and other allies and partners have also imposed sanctions against Russia in response to the invasion. While the sanctions and export controls have been substantially and carefully coordinated, companies should be aware of differences between the U.S. and international sanction and export control regimes.
