Eric Adams is open to discussing Tom Homan's plan regarding getting the violent gangs out of NYC. A good move forward to reach the hands across the isle. I'm sure no promises from anyone yet. The idea would be to see what Adams will do to help Homeland and USBP, and what Homan will do to start taking out (mostly) Tren de Agua (TdA), systematically and be able to leave those not committing crimes alone.
Mayor Eric Adams is set to meet with President-elect Donald Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan next week — as the city scrambles to prepare for a massive shift in immigration policy with the incoming White House administration.
“I am looking forward to sitting down and speaking with the border czar next week,” Adams said on MSNBC Thursday morning.
“I want to hear the actual plan and how are we going to operationalize the plan,” Adams said, adding he has “not been silent” on his feelings regarding migrants who commit “violent crimes” in the Big Apple.
The first thing the Adams administration must do is not allow these folks out of jail before the reports are done. There may also have to be a "level" of crime that USBP will or will not take the TdA folks. Obviously, traffic tickets and stealing a sandwich isn't a deportable offense. Rape (sexual assault of any kind), murder, attempted murder, assault on a police officer would be a good start. Also, going through the entire booking process. So DNA swatches, prints, etc.
“I would like to hear the border czar’s plan on addressing that,” the mayor told MSNBC.
The sitdown is slated for next Thursday morning at City Hall, The Post confirmed.
The meeting comes as Hizzoner signaled he’s open to taking a harder stance and loosening sanctuary city rules that bar local officials from working with federal immigration authorities.
Adams told reporters Tuesday that asylum seekers should be deported after being charged with a crime.
He had previously maintained that asylum seekers should only be deported after they are convicted and serve their time in jail or prison.
Adams has a hard sell on this with the city councils. If one borough doesn't play, then the crime will go there. Which I don't think is a bad thing. Cockroaches go to where it's easy to live.
I am hoping this is a good thing for both, and the mutual assistance can get ironed out.
