President Joe Biden pardoned his son, Hunter, on Sunday night, sparing the younger Biden a possible prison sentence for federal felony gun and tax convictions and reversing his past promises not to use the extraordinary powers of the presidency for the benefit of his family.

The Democratic president had previously said he would not pardon his son or commute his sentence after convictions in the two cases in Delaware and California. The move comes weeks before Hunter Biden was set to receive his punishment after his trial conviction in the gun case and guilty plea on tax charges, and less than two months before President-elect Donald Trump is set to return to the White House.

Is it legal? yes. Is it moral? I would say it show pedojoe's stripes, much like any other crime family. For decades, junior has been protected by the "family." Would trumpster have pardoned him? Maybe. Not only the interesting timing from that, but it also negates the exhaustive investigation into the nuts and bolts into pedojr per se by the federal parole investigators. This investigation looks at all the charges and has authority to look into evidence not brought up in court. Information such as where the money in his tax evasion case came from, lying on his taxes, and the FFL. And then there's the issue about using Secret Service to go find the gun, which is an abuse of power.

Trump issued a total of 144 pardons during his first four years in office. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember you critiquing or criticizing any of those pardons.

  2. by oldedude on December 2, 2024 5:31 am
none of those were his family members. This is the second time in our history that has happened. And like I said, the timing of it was perfect to keep the family secrets intact. This is about the same as where I grew up, except the mob paid off politicians and judges, and in this case they would have paid off (or extorted) the governor.

  3. by Donna on December 2, 2024 5:43 am

It makes no difference whether or not it was a family member. You're just biased. Admit it.

I think that presidential pardons should be abolished, though.

  4. by HatetheSwamp on December 2, 2024 5:57 am

    Donna,

Did you sign up for Curt's Advanced Good German Seminar!!!!!?

Right-wing media has been showing regularly the many times the White House Press Corps has asked Joe and the world's stupidest lesbian if "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" would pardon his baby boy. And, oh! The body language. The scoffing. The besmirching. No doubt. The metaphorical Rachel has been mum.

Then, under the cover of a holiday weekend... after the freakin friggin election... Joe breaks the promise.

And, you? You're happy as a clam. Fershame!

It's Joe... AND CITIZENS LIKE YOU!... who are a significant reason I HATETHESWAMP!

It makes no difference whether or not it was a family member. You're just biased. Admit it.
If this were trumpster doing the same thing, you'd be howling about being a violation of some part of the constitution by fabricating some BS that you purposefully misread and misconstrued. You need to admit your dogma and complete lack of political fairness. I fully explained why it was wrong. I also would have said that about trumpster, or Nikki, or Tulsi (both women I support far more than trumpster, and I support trumpster more than any wokester).

  6. by Donna on December 2, 2024 6:56 am

Actually I'm the only one who's being objective and consistent in that I oppose all presidential pardons. That would include Hunter's. So fuck you. Both of you.

  7. by HatetheSwamp on December 2, 2024 7:41 am

    Donna,

To remove the pardon would require a constitutional amendment. That ain't happnin... especially with this Swamp. And, we've seen the ease with which Federal prosecutors have used their power to pursue political opponents in the last four years. The pardon serves a function.

Still, what offends ole pb about this is the constant lying by "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" and the world's stupidest lesbian.

    OD, HtS,
Spare us your unabashed hypocrisy. Trump pardoned his son-in-law’s father, Charles Kushner. In 2005, Kushner was convicted of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and witness tampering after hiring a prostitute to seduce his brother-in-law, arranging to record a sexual encounter between the two, and sending the tape to his sister. Kushner was also disbarred.

For good measure, Trump just named Kushner ambassador to France.

  11. by meagain on December 2, 2024 10:01 am
You beat me to it, Curt. These Conservatives are followers of the three monkeys when it comes to their leaders. I agree with Donna about abolishing Presidential pardons. It is positively medieval. t is an example of why I say America needs either a new Constitution or an Amendment that allows for change instead of being stuck in the 17th. century.

  12. by Indy! on December 2, 2024 10:41 am

I'd be 100% for abolishing presidential pardons. And it's comical OD acting like Trump is innocent when he pardoned guys like Scooter Libby (probably for some sort of bribe).

  13. by oldedude on December 2, 2024 10:44 am
I'm already 100% against gubernatorial and presidential against pardons.

  15. by oldedude on December 3, 2024 12:22 am
no... pedojoe is out of the orifice by then. He won't be shitting itself near DC at that time. Butt you can clean him up if you want. He's YOU'RE problem then. And I'm sure you can get a job doing that. Since that's all you're good for.

  16. by Curt_Anderson on December 3, 2024 9:35 am
I love how Joe Biden sent MAGA into a tizzy over the Hunter Biden pardon. Never mind that Trump said he might pardon Hunter and Trump already pardoned many criminal in-laws and friends. Joe just kicked sand in faces of the pearl clutching Republicans and Trump voters.

  17. by oldedude on December 3, 2024 9:40 am
curt- He also pardoned all crimes going 10 years back. SO, what if trumpster were pardoned going back 10 years? Would that acceptable to you?

  18. by HatetheSwamp on December 3, 2024 9:45 am

    Curt,

    It's always gunna be...

    Trump Trump Trump Trump
    Trump Trump Trump Trump
    Trump Trump Trump Trump... TRUMP!!!!!...

    ...with you. Ain't?

Trump hasn't said that he WOULD pardon Hunter. And, the people he pardoned had served time.

Who are you going to be able Good German once it's Trump 24/7?

As far as I can tell, one decent size sliver of Trump’s vote was people who, like HATETHESWAMP, hate the Swamp. Joe's behavior here, is despicable.

  19. by islander on December 3, 2024 2:01 pm

I was wondering how the Trump loyalists would frame this in their own minds. My first reaction when I heard the news that Biden had pardoned his son was disappointment and anger. But the more I thought about it the more I began to see why he did this and realized that I would have done the same thing if it had been my own son. I would not hand my son over to an administration whose head, Trump, had said he was going to go after and seek revenge against people he called, "His enemies". And that would include my son, who would be a de facto enemy simply by virtue of being my son. Trump’s appointment of Patel, who has ranted and raved for the past four years on every right-wing podcast in America that he was going to “get Hunter Biden” would have cinched it.

I had also thought that Biden's pardon of his son would be used as a good propaganda shield for Trump with regard to the people Trump has already pardoned and will be pardoning...But then I thought, "So what!!!" In reality what difference will that make? Trump is going to pardon whomever he wants either way and his loyalists will justify it no matter whome he pardons...And if it were my son, he'll always come first over no matter what Trump loyalists think or do.

Thumbs up Joe 👍 !!! You have my support and you did the right thing !!

  20. by Curt_Anderson on December 3, 2024 2:29 pm
Islander, I agree with all that you wrote about the pardon. Good for Joe!

Additionally, I am not even troubled by the concept of presidential pardons. In Hunter's case he already paid the late taxes along with penalty fees. As for the gun purchase form, he is hardly the first substance abuser to deny their own drug or alcohol abuse. Hunter only had the gun for short time; his sister-in-law threw the gun into a dumpster. Hunter has since sobered up according to all reports. He is unlikely to create any more problems for the IRS or the ATF.

I also agree with Benjamin Franklin who said "it is better a hundred guilty persons should escape than one innocent person should suffer."

In case anybody is wondering, Trump has escaped the legal consequences of his guilty actions at least 100 times. So it's long overdue that he should suffer as would other miscreants.

Welcome back, isle. I hope you're handling November 5th.

Like you, I wish we had some Trump supporters here. I've been begging Curt to recruit us some.

What amuses me is seeing all the videos of Dems praising "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" for saying he won't pardon Hunter only to have to eat their words. Keehee ha.

  22. by Curt_Anderson on December 3, 2024 2:52 pm
I forgot which reporter asked the question, but I thought at the time, the best answer Biden could give was to unequivocally deny that he'd give Hunter a pardon. It was a gotcha question to which anything other than a full-throated "no pardon" would be used against him and/or Harris.

Of course the reason the question was asked, is because giving Hunter a pardon was reasonable considering the circumstances.

  23. by oldedude on December 3, 2024 5:54 pm
    Hey isle.

I, too would have had a hard time "not" pardoning my son. And as the chief Law Enforcement leader in this nation, it tells me that he's too self-centered to do the right thing for the country. He's also a POS for his first part of his oath. The idea that he can't protect the citizens of the nation, but he's a liar. Our system is built on the premise that if nothing else, our justice system is "blind." Maybe to anyone but his family. He should have waited until sentencing was concluded, that's December. Then he could have thrown it in with a bunch of other dopers and felons for maybe a week. The problem with that (like I said) is the exhaustive check done by federal parole. That would have given the story on the whole criminal organization and releasable to FOIA requests.

That said he also pardoned everything pedojr had done for the past 10 years. I found that interesting. That doesn't really protect jr as much as it protects the biden (crime) family.

He continually whines about people "after his son" that should be a crime just because his name's pedojr. WTF has his DOJ/FBI been doing to trumpster and any conservative they can wrongfully detain? They've violated the constitution and the FISC courts. They've admitted lying to using illegal "evidence" to get warrants for wiretaps (listening to phone calls), surveillance, and other violations of the constitution. There has been no recourse against those agents, SACs, and directors (minus one lawyer).

  24. by islander on December 4, 2024 5:20 am

Curt, most everybody I've spoken to about this agrees that they would have done the same thing if they were in Joe's position and it was their son. They admitted that they would pardon their son for the same reasons we and most fathers would. It was the right thing to do.

  25. by HatetheSwamp on December 4, 2024 5:36 am

    isle,

The one criticism that I hear from Dems and others on the left is that, in pardoning Hunter, Joe proved that he's not an uncompromising advocate for the rule of law and that now Trump critics have less of a comeback when the OrangeTurd does what he campaigned on doing.

One good thing I think even you will have to say about Trump is that he made an open, unabashed campaign promise to pardon people over the J6 riot.

If you voted for Trump, you voted for those pardons.

Your "feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" campaigned on NOT pardoning Hunter. What a freakin friggin EFFINliar!

Certainly you can understand pardoning your son if you can.

    *****

    Still...

    Here's a prediction:

AMONG JAMES COMER IN THE HOUSE AND PAM BONDI AT JUSTICE AND WHOMEVER HEADS THE FBI, COUNT ON EXTENSIVE INVESTIGATIONS OF THE BIDEN CRIME FAMILY, INCLUDING JOE, EVEN IF THE FORMER TRUCK DRIVER PARDONS HIMSELF ON THE WAY OUT THE DOOR!!!!!

  26. by oldedude on December 4, 2024 5:40 am
isle- I respect your decision to do that. I just don't agree. Not a fight, just a difference of opinion, which we're all allowed to have. This is one of those things that everyone is basing their opinion on "mostly" intangible reasons. So the absolute "right" or "wrong" doesn't really exist. Except in our own rational. Not each other's.

  27. by islander on December 4, 2024 10:23 am

Curt, I would have let my son serve a fair sentence for what he was charged with…I tried to teach my kids that their choices have consequences and I think Joe probably would have done the same when asked if he’d pardon him and his response was no. What I wouldn’t do, like I said earlier, was hand him over to an administration whose head, Trump, had said he was going to go after and seek revenge against people he called, "His enemies". And that would include my son, who would be a de facto enemy simply by virtue of being my son. And especially not to someone like Patel who has for the past four tears said he was going to ”get my son”. Why would any father abandon their son to people like that who were out to get him simply for being my son.

I was just curious to see how the two resident Trump supporters here would respond to that same question. Now I know…

  28. by Curt_Anderson on December 4, 2024 10:47 am
Islander, I agree with that, not that you nor I would ever be in that situation. The most I'd be in a position to do would be help my son with his legal defense.

In the Bidens' case, besides Trump, Patel and the rest of the Trump henchmen vowing revenge against the Bidens, Hunter would be unlike my son or your son. Our sons would be anonymous, common prisoners. Hunter Biden would enter prison with unwelcome notoriety.

  29. by HatetheSwamp on December 4, 2024 10:51 am

    isle,

I'm a JD supporter. There's lots the OrangeTurd seems to be planning that I'm not excited about.

If the Dems hadn't a tried to foist that "dithering and diminished" "feckless dementia-ridden" Doddering Old Fool... and then Cackles Mckneepads... on America, they could have seen the cream rise to the top and nominated someone who would have dismantled Trump in the Electoral College. Now, Trump runs Congress and has a sympathetic Court.

Don't be surprised, by Inauguration Day, to see Joe pardon his whole family, himself included, because he's a lyin, thievin, cheatin $@ck o %$!t.

If not, keep your eyes open so you can follow the Crime Family news.
