How absolutely brazenly transparent!

Justice Department officials have been evaluating how to wind down the two federal criminal cases against President-elect Donald Trump before he takes office to comply with long-standing department policy that a sitting president can’t be prosecuted, two people familiar with the matter tell NBC News.

The latest discussions stand in contrast with the pre-election legal posture of special counsel Jack Smith, who in recent weeks took significant steps in the election interference case against Trump without regard to the electoral calendar.

    meagain,

I'd have expected Trump's AG to have fired Jack Smith. That's what makes this so very remarkable.

They still had the time to prosecute, or convict. Neither of those happened. And there are issues about Smith being appointed as a citizen (not a federal prosecutor) and without congressional approval.

There are a couple of things that I think happened. DOJ at least needs to appear that it respects the rule of law, and these were lawfare. The state charges may just be vacated. If so, be assured, it was lawfare. Nothing more.

I'm just waiting to see what's going to happen.
