And, not very clever plagiarism.

Vice President Kamala Harris is under scrutiny due to allegations of plagiarism in a book that she coauthored in 2009.

According to a new report by Dr. Stefan Weber, Austrian "plagiarism hunter," Harris and co-author Joan O'C Hamilton had 27 "fragments of plagiarism" in the book Smart on Crime: A Career Prosecutor's Plan to Make Us Safer.

In the 49-page report, Weber and his team also allege that the Democratic presidential nominee and her coauthor copied and pasted from a Wikipedia article for the book.

Weber, a professor in Austria, accused Harris of reproducing verbatim language from sources such as news articles and studies in his report.

"Kamala Harris fabricated a source reference, inventing a nonexistent page number. The self-promotional content from Goodwill Industries was copied verbatim without citing the source (Goodwill Industries was her 'primary partner' on in [sic] the 'Back on Track' program)," Weber wrote in the analysis.

"In many other instances, even when a source was cited with a footnote, the text was directly copied and pasted without using quotation marks. Quotation marks would have been the most transparent and honest approach, also in non-academic books..."

"After copying from the Wikipedia article, she continues by copying from the PDF linked in the Wikipedia article's first reference. Although she acknowledges at the end of the book that she took examples of community courts from that report (without providing the URL), the copied sections are presented as if they were her own words. The word-for-word copying still requires quotation marks to maintain proper attribution," Weber wrote.

Is this a big deal?

You know d@ngwell. If this was about Trump, Curt would be all over this. D@ngwell!

If Trump actually authored a book, you be would be all over it.

Also what are "fragments of plagiarism"? That sounds like what we'd call paraphrasing which is when you don't quote somebody verbatim.

    Read my keystrokes:

It's alright Curt. You can choose not to Good German at any time.

Looked into it a little. Sounds like a lot of nonsense - quotes that were acknowledged in the footnotes missing quote marks, etc... Again, the only person on the planet who is interested is peebs and only because he can't find any real scandals (like cheating on her spouse, paying prostitutes for sex, encouraging party members to revolt against the country or being convicted on 32 felony counts) to hang on Kamala.

    Curt, Indy,

Ole pb linked to an article from Newsweek. Not Fox nor the NYP.

It's real thing. Sorry to bring it up about she who sets your heart atwitter.

  5. by Indy! on October 14, 2024 6:09 pm

We agree on the source - it's the content that we disagree on. I suspect that is because you didn't actually read the article. The "hunter" guy sounds like that assistant principle every school had that took pleasure in nothing except busting kids for breaking stupid rules. And even he can't come up with anything other than "partial quotes" and possibly copying something out of Wikipedia (😂) which was probably plagiarized from Kamala's by whoever put it in there. Dude doesn't understand how wiki works.

    Indy,
😁 I was thinking the guy sounded like some persnickety English teacher, but your assistant principal characterization was more apropo. I had my share of run-ins with the Ass. Principal when I was a high schooler. "Fragments of plagiarism", har!

Yeah, but if Trump did it, a progressive prosecutor would already have a 60 page indictment, eh!!!!!?

Curt - I had that English teacher you're referencing. She was an old spinster who went nuts if a comma was out of place. Learned a lot from her, but that was one of my least favorite classes in HS.

Actual quote from her: "The English language is my life!"
