(Forbes)Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., was subpoenaed in a civil defamation lawsuit by the team representing a woman who he was accused of having sex with when she was a minor, ABC News reported Thursday—the latest development following a yearslong investigation into whether Gaetz paid women for sex.
“Congressman Gaetz received a witness subpoena in an ongoing lawsuit between outside parties. He is not being sued, and he is neither a plaintiff nor a defendant in this matter,” Joel Valdez, Gaetz’s communications director, said in a statement to Forbes. Gaetz’s team in the past has denied he ever paid for sex. (Technically that's true. See below.)
Matt Gaetz Discussed Vacationing With Woman His Friend Paid For Sex, Texts Allegedly Show
(Forbes)House investigators have text messages in which Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) allegedly invited a woman who received payments for sex from the congressman’s former friend to join him and others on a trip, according to text messages described to ABC News, as the lawmaker denies all wrongdoing in a years-long ethics probe.
ABC said it’s not clear if Gaetz was aware Greenberg had paid the woman.
A selfie of Gaetz and the woman dated May 19, 2017, was also turned over to the congressional committee, unnamed sources told ABC.
