Kristen Welker should have asked Mike Johnson if Vladimir Putin was "calling the shots". Who would be more pleased than Putin if the US turned its back on Ukraine?
House Republicans say the Senate Bill which addresses immigration, Israel and Ukraine is "dead on arrival". In particular they are dissatisfied with the solutions to the border issues. This even though the National Border Patrol Council supports the controversial bipartisan Senate border deal. Lead negotiator Sen. Lankford, no liberal, pushed back on fellow Republicans' criticism, saying the border bill "flips script" on Biden policies.
I don't believe House Republicans are really unhappy with how the bill addresses immigration. I think they are happy to carry Putin's water, which makes Trump happy. As a bonus, the immigration issue which the GOP purports to care about, is better for them left unsolved so they can complain about it going into the next election.
(Dec. 6, 2023)President Biden on Wednesday accused Republicans of giving Russian President Vladimir Putin “the greatest gift he could hope for” by forcing a stalemate in the Senate on negotiations over immigration reform.
The president made the remarks from the White House ahead of a vote in the Senate set up by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) to move forward the process of approving Ukraine aid. It is expected to be defeated by Republicans.
