(WaPo)The Biden “impeachment inquiry” has held no more hearings in the month since the first one. And, by his own admission, Comer doesn’t want to.

“I don't know that I want to hold any more hearings, to be honest with you,” [James] Comer said while speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill last week. He complained that it was hard to keep members present for hours on end, given that so many had other commitments. Instead, he said, he preferred depositions, which “you can do more with.”

There's a truth buried in that, of course. You can do more with cherry-picked transcripts when your goal is to coat Joe Biden with insinuations and unproved allegations. [For example, had] Devon Archer’s deposition been a hearing, the final result would have been that viewers saw him acknowledge that Biden was not involved in his son's work.

What you're linking is rampant in the progressive SwampMedia but no source in the middle, or right, is reporting it.

I saw several of the Mike Johnson interviews over the weekend. He was saying that Republicans have to get to the truth about the Bidens. My sense, though, is that his focus, at the moment, is on the budget.

But, buddy, please, keep a good thought.

  2. by Curt_Anderson on October 30, 2023 1:21 pm
    HtS,
Are you suggesting that Comer didn't say, "I don't know that I want to hold any more hearings, to be honest with you."

The real issue is about any more impeachment inquiry hearings. Let's see if Comer decides to hold another public hearing. I say Comer has enough embarrassment and futility. You seem to think otherwise.

  3. by HatetheSwamp on October 30, 2023 2:28 pm

I didn't hear it. And, I don't trust your Holy Trinity sources...

...and, I know that the name of the Speaker of the House is not James Comer. It's Mike Johnson. Mike Johnson says that the Republicans need to get to the truth about the Biden fambly.

  4. by Curt_Anderson on October 30, 2023 3:13 pm
    HtS,
Can we at least agree that if there is truth to be revealed about Joe Biden worthy of impeachment, that James Comer is the man to do it?

  5. by HatetheSwamp on October 30, 2023 4:28 pm

James Comer is the Chair of the House Oversight Committee. I imagine that we agree on that. Do you think that he'll operate separate from the authority of the Speaker of the House?

"Do you think that he'll operate separate from the authority of the Speaker of the House?" --HtS

    HtS,
I cannot imagine that Mike Johnson would constrain James Comer.

Speaker Mike Johnson says Biden ‘very likely’ committed impeachable crimes

House Speaker Rep. Mike Johnson said the federal probe into President Biden's alleged criminal foreign business dealings will continue under his leadership, and stated that it is "very likely" Biden committed impeachable offenses.

    So there.

    HtS,
So we agree that Comer and Johnson are eager to pursue an impeachment case against Biden. If they don't, it won't be for a lack of their trying.

  9. by HatetheSwamp on October 31, 2023 4:02 am

No. Johnson made that exact point. He said that he's an attorney who believes in "the rule of law." He made the point, "We're not like the democrats."

Speaking for OD and pb, I'll say that that's the point.

Based on what people who get their news from sources other than your Holy Trinity know...just based on what's in that "mythical laptop," there's reason to to engage in an impeachment inquiry.

Curiously, as a result of that the Matt Gaetz Speaker brouhaha and Johnson's commitment to work on the budget, it appears that the impeachment inquiry will now crescendo in 024, during Primary season.

pb'll stick with his 50/50 prediction on impeachment. More and more, he wonders if the Impeachment Inquiry itself wasn't the point all along. Tony Bobulinski and that crowd will testify. The campaign commercials will be cut. Then, we'll all move on.

He's going to continue this charade for its campaign value against the Democrats and Biden, and although after many months of desperate searching they have as yet to uncover anything even vaguely resembling legally viable and actionable "evidence" of any impeachable offense, they will keep digging because there's just got to be SOMETHING that they can find to impeach him for because they just want to impeach him so badly.

"He said that he's an attorney who believes in 'the rule of law.'"

And yet he tried to thwart the rule of law by aiding and abetting an attempted coup against the United States of America by overturning a free and fair election. He voted (for no actual, reality based, legal reason whatsoever mind you) to not validate the legal, verified, and official results of the election in 2020.

And if he's so full of the rule of law, why has he been so happy to not raise a finger about the cavalcade of misdemeanors and felonies that Trump has committed and many of which indicted for? Why is Mr. Rule O'Law so content to let such a flagrant and psychopathic scofflaw trample the Constitution and the rule of law he contends that he so dearly loves?

He's quite right about one thing though. When it comes to the Rule of Law, you MAGA Republicans are in fact not like the Democrats. At all. To be sure.

    Just curious, po.

Do you still believe that Hunter's laptop is Russian disinformation?

  12. by Ponderer on October 31, 2023 6:50 am

I have no evidence that leads me to that conclusion, so I will not assert it.

But I know just by reasonable consideration that by this time, anything could have been put on that laptop, wherever the hell it is, and its existence is going to be a sad excuse for evidence of anything in an actual legal case.

  13. by HatetheSwamp on October 31, 2023 9:17 am

Word over here, po, is that it's been analyzed, forensically, with a fine-toothed comb...

...and, testimony by Tony Bobulinski and Rob Walker and those pesky whistle-blowers confirm its content...and, many, many others as well.

  14. by Ponderer on October 31, 2023 9:24 am

That's the point, Bill. There is no way to verify who has gone over it with a fine tooth comb or who has put whatever they want to on it either. Who knows how many hands it's been in by now? It's essentially useless as evidence of anything.

  15. by Indy! on October 31, 2023 9:27 am

Soon as there is some real work to do for regular Americans, they will kickstart the the impeachment nonsense again. Just like the Ds did with Trump when he was in office. This is why nothing ever changes in this country.

Oh - and of course - no one will ever go to jail.

  16. by HatetheSwamp on October 31, 2023 9:59 am

There is no way to verify who has gone over it with a fine tooth comb or who has put whatever they want to on it either.

    Bullfernerner, po.

    Three words:

    F
    B
    I

And, that's why first-hand accounts from Hunter's business associates, matching emails on their computers, etc., are important. There's gobs of verification.

As much as you seem to want to believe that "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" is Gandhi 2.0, it seems obvious that Joe's nuthin more than a typical Swamp pol.

It's okay, po. There's nuthin new here...at EFFINall. The GOPs are going to investigate for impeachment in retaliation for the Trump impeachment silliness...as they promised would happen.

T'only way the Doddering Old Fool's going to be impeached will be that his credibility is so thoroughly destroyed that purple district GOPs will vote to impeach. In that case, the string-pullers will get him resigned from office long before that.

But, the Inquiry is gunna happen...

    ...and, should.

  17. by Ponderer on October 31, 2023 10:08 am

"It's okay, po. There's nuthin new here...at EFFINall. The GOPs are going to investigate for impeachment in retaliation for the Trump impeachment silliness...as they promised would happen." -Hate

So because all you MAGA Republicans consider all of the verified and documented evidence of impeachable offenses perpetrated by Trump which led to his impeachments were "silly", regardless of how absolutely and blatantly damning it was, it doesn't matter to you all how silly your case against Biden is or gets to be. I see.

You're actually making a little sense there, Bill. That couldn't possibly have been your intention, could it...? It's just so rare coming from you.

Biden Impeachment Inquiry in 'Downhill Phase': James Comer
"We know not only there were crimes, we know there are cover-ups," Comer said. "We have mountains of evidence and now we're ready to bring 'em in. We're in the downhill phase of this investigation now because we have so many documents and we can bring these people in for depositions or committee hearings, whichever they choose, and we can ask these questions with evidence."

The impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden began on September 12, 2023. So if it is in the "downhill phase" it should be wrapped up before December 19th.

  19. by HatetheSwamp on November 1, 2023 5:51 am

    Curt,

Nice to note that you moved, as Dr Leo Marvin would say, a "babystep" away from the reporting of your Holy Trinity of MSNBC, the NYT and the HuffPo.

Following the GOPs and right-wing media, as you don't, what "We have mountains of evidence and now we're ready to bring 'em in..." means is that the "'em" includes is the people who will be subpoenaed to offer testimony related to that mountains of evidence.

    Tony Bobulinski
    Rob Walker
    Jim EFFINBiden
    Hunter EFFINBiden

    and, others.

Speaker Mike Johnson has been vividly clear. He thinks that there is evidence that justifies an investigation into the very real possibility that "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap's" guilty of accepting bribes. Johnson was on the Oversight Committee. He knows everything the GOPs know. And, he's pushing the process.

Please don't allow yourself to think that the HouseGOPs are about to let the impeachment thing drop. Based on what I'm seeing, hearing and reading, nuthin could be further from the truth...

    ...by a looooooooong shot.

  22. by Curt_Anderson on November 1, 2023 8:58 am
    HtS,
I did not suggest that James comer is “ready to drop it”. He said they have “all the evidence” and are in the “downhill phase”.

  23. by HatetheSwamp on November 1, 2023 9:22 am

Oh, and what were you implying that meant?

No more Biden impeachment inquiry hearings? Comer seems unmotivated and unsure.

    "No more hearings?" Hmmmm!!!!!?

    "Unmotivated?" "Unsure?"

  24. by Curt_Anderson on November 1, 2023 9:32 am
    HtS,
You misunderstand what Comer said. He he said he has the evidence so he will continue the inquiry for what sounds like another couple of months. However, he is unsure about holding any public hearings.

  25. by HatetheSwamp on November 1, 2023 9:58 am

To what do you suppose it's time to "bring 'em in" if not hearings?

  26. by Curt_Anderson on November 1, 2023 10:16 am
    HtS,
If you believe what Comer reportedly told reporters, he plans to bring people in for private depositions rather than public hearings. Anyway, time will tell. Let’s see what he does over the next month or two with “all the evidence” Comer claims to have.

  27. by Curt_Anderson on November 29, 2023 3:20 pm
I am resurrecting this thread to remind HtS and Olde Dude what James Comer said a month ago. If one pays attention to what Comer said then, there should be no surprise that Comer rejected Hunter Biden's offer to testify publicly. OD, Comer and company claimed to be past the investigative stage and are ready to prosecute.

“I don't know that I want to hold any more hearings, to be honest with you,” [James] Comer said while speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill last week.

"We have mountains of evidence and now we're ready to bring 'em in", James Comer said.

  28. by oldedude on November 29, 2023 6:46 pm
When did I say that? Obviously, when they actually set dates to prosecute, they're ready to do that. If comer felt that way, so be it. He still hasn't set dates.

  29. by Curt_Anderson on November 29, 2023 9:39 pm
    OD,
Just today you wrote, "The reason they're wanting a closed hearing is to collect evidence. They haven't gotten to the 'trial' phase." That doesn't gibe with what Comer said a month ago, "we have mountains of evidence and now we're ready to bring 'em in".

  30. by oldedude on November 29, 2023 10:17 pm
First. I have no influence over WTF Comer says, thinks, or does. Again. It's been a month which makes no sense to me at all. They may have something different. Comer may have lied. Maybe it was a political ploy. Perhaps he wanted to see what the dims said. Maybe with the change of speakership, and that fiasco he was trying to hedge his bets. A month ago is an eternity in modern politics. The fact is that most people don't remember what anyone in DC said a month ago, nor do they care.

I also understand that you absolutely cannot, under any circumstances, disagree with pedojoe, or any of your thieves in DC. I know that you must support them whatever they do or don't do. regardless of how stupid it makes you. But (I'm going to say it again) this is just stoopid to even bring up. Again, I believe you're the most politically naive person I've ever met.

You may want to read the Tuttle Twins on how our government works.

  31. by HatetheSwamp on November 30, 2023 4:33 am

What I'm hearing from GOPs in recent days is that Hunter will have his chance to appear in a public hearing, but only after he's questioned in a closed door session.

While Mike Johnson doesn't yet carry the big stick Nancy Pelosi wielded among Dems in the Trump days, I think that it's worth noting that there's been a change in the House Speakership recently.

As far as I can tell, Johnson is more interested in seeing Impeachment proceed than was McCarthy...and that matters.

  32. by oldedude on November 30, 2023 6:42 am
When Johnson came in, there's of course a lot of shuffling. It's like seeing the Workers' Day Parade in Moscow every year. You wonder who's sitting next to the President, and where they are. It's a jostle for power and to see where everyone's power changed.

In addition, all former bets are off. If they're renewed, then they're renewed. With the blessing of the new Chief. And of course, everyone is trying to keep on the good side of the new guy.

  33. by HatetheSwamp on November 30, 2023 6:53 am

    OD,

I don't think that McCarthy could have rallied the HouseGOPs into impeaching the Doddering Old Fool, in spite of the mountain of evidence that the Oversight Committee and its investigators have accumulated. Johnson? I dunno.

As I said when McCarthy was Speaker, I thought the plan was merely to do impeachment to publicize the evidence of Joe's corruption so that moderates and independents had an alternative narrative to the DOJ and wacked local prosecutors' that will be apparent during the Trump trials.

Now, I think that there's a better chance that the House will vote to impeach.

  34. by oldedude on November 30, 2023 9:36 am
I'd agree with that. I just don't know the specifics. This is why I rarely get involved with trials in process. It's a daily show of change. Show the the money on CSPAN where we can watch the evidence. Everything before that is Kabuki theater that I really don't want to watch.

  35. by Ponderer on November 30, 2023 10:13 am

You fuckingRepublicans got NOTHING! You shamelessly lying assholes never have ANYTHING but lies, bullshit, and fake news! You are the swampiest of the Swamp you're always projecting onto others about.

  36. by oldedude on November 30, 2023 11:54 am
And you rarely cite anything. Mostly because it's impossible to show that your "feelings" are true.

  37. by HatetheSwamp on November 30, 2023 11:59 am
