This is WaPo/ABC, gang. No doubt, it's an outlier, but there's a definite trend now.

Forty-four percent of Americans in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll say they've gotten worse off financially under Biden's presidency, the most for any president in ABC/Post polls since 1986. Just 37% approve of his job performance, while 56% disapprove. Still fewer approve of Biden's performance on the economy, 30%.

A remarkable 62% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents say the party should pick someone other than Biden as its nominee in 2024; just a third back Biden.

Trump has far broader intraparty support; 54% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents favor him for the GOP nomination, again similar to previous results, and well ahead of his opposition.

In terms of sampling, this survey was conducted using the ABC/Post poll's longstanding methodology. Demographic results are typical. So are partisan preferences; 25% of respondents identify themselves as Democrats, 25% as Republicans and 42% as independents.

Among 18- to 35-year-olds, Trump has a slight 53-38% advantage (marginally significant at this sample size).

Trump has gained 7 points from May among men, now a 61-34% result against Biden.

Among the 62% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents who oppose Biden for the nomination, 16% say they'd vote for Trump over Biden.

Gang,

I just can't see America voting to reelect a guy who's earnestly concluding a speech with "God save the Queen, man," reflecting on that song, "Good Morning Vietnam" and confessing that "It's my bedtime." Voters find that stuff out even if Joy, Ari and Rachel do their d@angdest to do a cover-up.

If Trump LOSES the popular vote by 2%, he wins the Electoral College...cheating notwithstanding, of course. If he wins the popular vote? Sheeeeeeeeeeeesh!

It definitely is NOT a trend. Remove that outlier and they are tied in the last ten or so RCP-reported polls.

I generally don't look at the singular "result" in a poll. I'm more interested in what made that happen. That is important.

Forty-four percent of Americans in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll say they've gotten worse off financially under Biden's presidency,
That's important and doesn't go away at the drop of a hat. If people are feeling they are getting paid less (even though they got a raise, that is never good for the sitting president.

A remarkable 62% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents say the party should pick someone other than Biden as its nominee in 2024; just a third back Biden.
The dims are not in lock-step this time. They took a gamble and figured out it was an error. Generally if you break even in this question, that's a problem. And him doing better at this? He turns off more oil to drive up prices which is worse for the lower and middle class.

54% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents favor him [trumpster] for the GOP nomination, again similar to previous results, and well ahead of his opposition.
So this is about where I would expect him. Not huge numbers, but many are waiting to see if he crashes first. If not, okay. If so, okay. the GOP field is pretty deep so no trouble with that.

Among the 62% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents who oppose Biden for the nomination, 16% say they'd vote for Trump over Biden.
I would suspect that is mostly the independents (and some dims). 16% that are that set in dumping the prez in favor of the other guy when the only thing he running on is, "I'm not trumpster"

Could this be an anomaly? Sure. And again, families that aren't making that dollar go as far as it should, don't forget this. Even if pedojoe gives money, at this point, it'll just be seen as an election ploy.

Y'know, OD, I think that the string-pullers making a big deal out of Bidenomics, is a huuuuuuuuuge mistake. Yeah, the rate of inflation is declining but we all can remember how much our grocery bill was in 020. Joe's campaign is shouting, essentially, "I DID THAT!"

There's plenty of time for Joe and the people in charge to change messaging, but this is idiotic. Demented.

  5. by oldedude on September 24, 2023 9:36 pm
I dunno, I kind of enjoy him saying that. It kind of proves our point. 1. His dementia is pretty deep in the cortex at this point, and 2. He's not getting better.

  6. by HatetheSwamp on September 25, 2023 6:12 am

    Bang on.

The dementia comes through in that, when he talks about the economy, he's able to believe the tripe. It's not the normal lying rhetoric of a typical Swamp politician. He's being fed these lines by the string-pullers and his brain's so shot he's no longer able to understand that it's BS.

But, apparently, classic low information voters do understand...and the election is still 16 months hence.
