No, not the current President, but the former guy.
(New York Times)Several gifts given by foreign countries to Donald J. Trump during his presidency are unaccounted for in government records, according to a report released on Friday by Democrats on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, which detailed ways in which the Trump White House had failed to follow the law in how it handled gifts.
The missing items included a $3,040 driver and $460 putter given to Mr. Trump by Shinzo Abe, the prime minister of Japan at the time, and “a larger-than-life-sized painting” of Mr. Trump given to him by El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, according to the report.
A box decorated in silver patterns that a union activist in Egypt had given to Mr. Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner is also missing, the report said. The box was valued at $450.

by Curt_Anderson on March 17, 2023 12:52 pm Sorry, I meant to say "He-who-shall-not-be-named". I am just wondering when the House GOP will come up with charges against Joe Biden that are close to being in the same category of malfeasance as "He-who-shall-not-be-named"
by oldedude on March 17, 2023 2:19 pm Although ALL "Gifts" must be registered with the government (I had to register Card carriers' worth about $.50 here, from a foreign country, of course we also had them scanned for electronic devices). Those are the rules. I think my "gift" is in a different class than either golf club, which is in a different class than a diamond or especially a cash payment. Generally, especially for the Prez, VP, congressional delegation, etc, gifts are handled by their "people." Ultimately, the issue lies with the person. Also, on that level, the person generally has an option to keep the article especially if it's a "personal" item
like 20 grams of coke to pedojr, and not a Ming Dynasty Vase or the like.
The direct cash payment is a bribe. THAT is really that simple. The workaround that many politicians are doing now is to have "non-profit" organizations which people/ countries make sizable donations to that are actually bribes. The politicians also get paid outrageous amounts of money to make a "speech."
