This is very damning to say the least.

From the NYT article:

The initial batch of documents retrieved by the National Archives from former†President Donald J. Trump†in January included more than 150 marked as classified, a number that ignited intense concern at the Justice Department and helped trigger the criminal investigation that led F.B.I. agents to swoop into Mar-a-Lago this month seeking to recover more, multiple people briefed on the matter said.

In total, the government has recovered more than 300 documents with classified markings from Mr. Trump since he left office, the people said: that first batch of documents returned in January, another set provided by Mr. Trumpís aides to the Justice Department in June and the material seized by the F.B.I. in the search this month...

Mr. Trump went through the boxes himself in late 2021, according to multiple people briefed on his efforts, before turning them over.

The highly sensitive nature of some of the material in the boxes prompted archives officials to refer the matter to the Justice Department, which within months had convened a grand jury investigation.

Aides to Mr. Trump turned over a few dozen additional sensitive documents during a visit to Mar-a-Lago by Justice Department officials in early June. At the conclusion of the search this month, officials left with 26 boxes, including 11 sets of material marked as classified, comprising scores of additional documents. One set had the highest level of classification, top secret/sensitive compartmented information.

The Justice Department investigation is continuing, suggesting that officials are not certain whether they have recovered all the presidential records that Mr. Trump took with him from the White House...

National Archives officials spent much of 2021 trying to get back material from Mr. Trump, after learning that roughly two dozen boxes of presidential records material had been lingering in the White House residence for several months. Under the Presidential Records Act, all official material remains government property and has to be provided to the archives at the end of a presidentís term...

Two former White House officials, who had been designated as among Mr. Trumpís representatives with the archives, received calls and tried to facilitate the documentsí return.

Mr. Trump resisted those calls, describing the boxes of documents as ďmine,Ē according to three advisers familiar with his comments...

On June 3, Jay Bratt, the chief of the counterespionage section of the national security division of the Justice Department, went to Mar-a-Lago to meet with two of Mr. Trumpís lawyers, Evan Corcoran and Christina Bobb, and retrieve any remaining classified material to satisfy the subpoena. Mr. Corcoran went through the boxes himself to identify classified material beforehand, according to two people familiar with his efforts.

Mr. Corcoran showed Mr. Bratt the basement storage room where, he said, the remaining material had been kept.

Mr. Trump briefly came to see the investigators during the visit.

Mr. Bratt and the agents who joined him were given a sheaf of classified material, according to two people familiar with the meeting. Mr. Corcoran then drafted a statement, which Ms. Bobb, who is said to be the custodian of the documents, signed. It asserted that, to the best of her knowledge, all classified material that was there had been returned, according to two people familiar with the statement.

Mr. Corcoran did not respond to repeated requests for comment. Ms. Bobb did not respond to an email seeking comment.

Soon after that visit, investigators, who were interviewing several people in Mr. Trumpís circle about the documents, came to believe that there were other presidential records that had not been turned over, according to the people familiar with the matter.

On June 22, the Justice Department subpoenaed the Trump Organization for Mar-a-Lagoís security footage, which included a well-trafficked hallway outside the storage area, the people said.

The club had surveillance footage going back 60 days for some areas of the property, stretching back to late April of this year.

While much of the footage showed hours of club employees walking through the busy corridor, some of it raised concerns for investigators, according to people familiar with the matter. It revealed people moving boxes in and out, and in some cases, appearing to change the containers some documents were held in. The footage also showed other parts of the property.

In seeking a second round of security footage, the Justice Department wants to review tapes for the weeks leading up to the Aug. 8 search.

Federal officials have indicated that their initial goal has been to secure any classified documents Mr. Trump was holding at Mar-a-Lago, a pay-for-membership club where there is little control over who comes in as guests. It remains to be seen whether anyone will face criminal charges stemming from the investigation.

The more we learn about this the more confident I am that Trump is going to be held accountable (finally) for his actions.

  3. by HatetheSwamp on August 23, 2022 8:31 am

    No kidding, isle?

Are you as confident as you were that he'd be busted for planning an insurrection on J6?

The article never talks about the safe(s) that was in that room. It was talked about before, and they seemed to be okay with it. If I was using this as my vacation home, you can be rest assured all my safes would be rated to TS/SCI. That way, I wouldn't have an issue. AND I would have the room cleared for that also (which is a requirement of the TS rating on the safe).

Just a point here. CLASSIFIED is not a clearance level. The carrier has to be classified to the highest classification of page or paragraph in that carrier. CONFIDENTIAL is a clearance level. That is far different than a TS. I do realize most stories about this just list that "classified" was........ And I'm not trying to poke the bear by saying this. It's just FYSA so folks don't think correctly or incorrectly everything taken are the nuke keys like was rumored before.

Hate askes: Are you as confident as you were that he'd be busted for planning an insurrection on J6?

Absolutely! And with everything that goes along with it, obstruction of justice, trying to overturn an election, etc, etc.

"The Justice Department has issued a new grand jury subpoena to the National Archives for more documents as part of its investigation into the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, two sources familiar with the investigation tell CNN.

This latest subpoena, issued on August 17, is in addition to a subpoena the Department of Justice sent to the Archives earlier this year, requesting the same documents and information that the Archives had previously handed over to the House select committee investigating January 6.

This new subpoena, which has not been previously reported, is understood to request additional documents and data from the Archives, pertaining to a period of time both before and after January 6.

Thomas Windom, an Assistant US Attorney, who is leading the criminal probe into the effort to impede the transfer of power after the 2020 election, including the potential role played by former President Donald Trump and allies to organize a group of fake electors who could keep Trump in power despite losing the election.

As a reminder, NYT reported that Windom subpoeaned all the stuff that the Archives had turned over to the January 6 Committee, for which the J6C had gone through the tedious process of getting an Executive Privilege waiver.

Federal prosecutors investigating the role that former President Donald J. Trump and his allies played in the events leading up to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol have issued a grand jury subpoena to the National Archives for all the documents the agency provided to a parallel House select committee inquiry, according to a copy of the subpoena obtained by The New York Times.

The subpoena, issued to the National Archives in May, made a sweeping demand for ďall materials, in whatever formĒ that the archives had given to the Jan. 6 House committee. Those materials included records from the files of Mr. Trumpís top aides, his daily schedule and phone logs and a draft text of the presidentís speech that preceded the riot.

There are, to be sure, a number of possible explanations for this: Perhaps Windom believes heíll get information on the Secret Service or DHS that eluded the deletion effort shortly after Joe Bidenís inauguration. Perhaps Windom knows of someone else covered by the Archives that the January 6 Committee hasnít yet identified, one not covered by Executive Privilege.

But I canít help but notice that Windom obtained the subpoena the day after Paul Sperry claimed the Trump had been hoarding documents at Mar-a-Lago with the intent of thwarting the January 6 Committee." *

Your naŪve and primitive, fierce hatred of Trump has seemed to become the light that guides your life...and, more power to you.

As for me?, you TDSers have gotten my hopes up too many times.

I can't see it. I have no hope left.

Still, I say, live your dream.

  7. by islander on August 23, 2022 4:10 pm
Hate...You are able to form such compelling and fact filled arguments! I'm impressed !!

  8. by HatetheSwamp on August 23, 2022 4:16 pm

How might facts have made a difference to Nazis about hated Jews or KKKers about those viledarkness?

Your TDS is rooted in hope and speculation, no real facts.

  9. by islander on August 23, 2022 4:26 pm
If you believe that, it's your own subjective belief. However I'm not really 100% certain that you actually believe most of the stuff you post here.

  10. by oldedude on August 23, 2022 8:15 pm
Isle- I find it interesting you won't answer me... mmmm...

I agree with Lead. There's a lot of innuendo and "what if's" in your facts, past tense. If you're going to use innuendo, don't use baseless facts to support them. And if you do, please use future tense.

Are you sure you're not from outside of Ottawa? You've never answered that question.

So olde dude, are you saying that it wasn't illegal for Trump to steal classified documents?

  12. by oldedude on August 23, 2022 8:27 pm
    Not at all.

  13. by oldedude on August 23, 2022 8:28 pm
I'm saying that your getting your "facts" from him pulling them out of his arse. He's making false assumptions, and building his "facts" on that.

  17. by Donna on August 23, 2022 8:36 pm
Umpteenth time? I've only made one post on this thread tonight. How was I supposed to know who "your" referred to?

  18. by Donna on August 23, 2022 8:43 pm
I have no idea what you're talking about.

  19. by oldedude on August 23, 2022 8:49 pm
Because first. You think every post is about you. This one, I admit could have been taken that way. I corrected my mistake. You're really testy tonight. I haven't been trying to fight, especially with you. Please take a breath. It's not one of those nights. Okay?
