You have to have a BA/BS, but it doesn't have to be in teaching. You get your certificate within the first two years of teaching to be employed. It may be that now. Last time I checked it out for one of my troops was in 2007. The idea is these troops generally have lifeskills that exceed the typical 4 year student. The fact they have hours also show they generally obtained credits around 12 hour days, and deployments. There is still that epic issue also that being in the military, you're a loser that can't do anything else. I'm not slamming veterans. I'm concerned that veterans who for example lack credentials in mathematics would be hired to teach math. Ergo, with 2 master's degrees, I could not teach "math," or chemistry, science at the lower levels, environmental science, etc. I would be okay to teach business or government related courses from elementary through HS if I chose.
