And they're still apparently struggling with it to this day. This could also well apply to the Christian Nation of the United States of America.

The Book of Isaia, Chapter 1:

1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

The Wickedness of Judah

2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth;
for the Lord has spoken:
“Children have I reared and brought up,
but they have rebelled against me.
3 The ox knows its owner,
and the donkey its master’s crib,
but Israel does not know,
my people do not understand.”

4 Ah, sinful nation,
a people laden with iniquity,
offspring of evildoers,
children who deal corruptly!
They have forsaken the Lord,
they have despised the Holy One of Israel,
they are utterly estranged.

5 Why will you still be struck down?
Why will you continue to rebel?
The whole head is sick,
and the whole heart faint.
6 From the sole of the foot even to the head,
there is no soundness in it,
but bruises and sores
and raw wounds;
they are not pressed out or bound up
or softened with oil.

7 Your country lies desolate;
your cities are burned with fire;
in your very presence
foreigners devour your land;
it is desolate, as overthrown by foreigners.
8 And the daughter of Zion is left
like a booth in a vineyard,
like a lodge in a cucumber field,
like a besieged city.

9 If the Lord of hosts
had not left us a few survivors,
we should have been like Sodom,
and become like Gomorrah.

10 Hear the word of the Lord,
you rulers of Sodom!
Give ear to the teaching of our God,
you people of Gomorrah!
11 “What to me is the multitude of your sacrifices?
says the Lord;
I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams
and the fat of well-fed beasts;
I do not delight in the blood of bulls,
or of lambs, or of goats.

12 “When you come to appear before me,
who has required of you
this trampling of my courts?
13 Bring no more vain offerings;
incense is an abomination to me.
New moon and Sabbath and the calling of convocations—
I cannot endure iniquity and solemn assembly.
14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts
my soul hates;
they have become a burden to me;
I am weary of bearing them.
15 When you spread out your hands,
I will hide my eyes from you;
even though you make many prayers,
I will not listen;
your hands are full of blood.
16 Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean;
remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes;
cease to do evil,
17 learn to do good;
seek justice,
correct oppression;
bring justice to the fatherless,
plead the widow’s cause.

18 “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord:
though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson,
they shall become like wool.
19 If you are willing and obedient,
you shall eat the good of the land;
20 but if you refuse and rebel,
you shall be eaten by the sword;
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

The Unfaithful City

21 How the faithful city
has become a whore,
she who was full of justice!
Righteousness lodged in her,
but now murderers.
22 Your silver has become dross,
your best wine mixed with water.
23 Your princes are rebels
and companions of thieves.
Everyone loves a bribe
and runs after gifts.
They do not bring justice to the fatherless,
and the widow’s cause does not come to them.

24 Therefore the Lord declares,
the Lord of hosts,
the Mighty One of Israel:
“Ah, I will get relief from my enemies
and avenge myself on my foes.
25 I will turn my hand against you
and will smelt away your dross as with lye
and remove all your alloy.
26 And I will restore your judges as at the first,
and your counselors as at the beginning.
Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness,
the faithful city.”

27 Zion shall be redeemed by justice,
and those in her who repent, by righteousness.
28 But rebels and sinners shall be broken together,
and those who forsake the Lord shall be consumed.
29 For they shall be ashamed of the oaks
that you desired;
and you shall blush for the gardens
that you have chosen.
30 For you shall be like an oak
whose leaf withers,
and like a garden without water.
31 And the strong shall become tinder,
and his work a spark,
and both of them shall burn together,
with none to quench them.

So I dunno. Is this chapter woke? Maybe pedophile's bitch could help us out by just telling us which books, chapters, and verses of the Bible are woke and which ones are not.

    Capitalism should be regarded the same as drinking, smoking and fornicating. Now, I won't deny that I like to indulge in sins, but I don't pretend it's anything other than mind-numbing indulgence. Any of these things can dull the mind and potentially lead to addictions and other harm. Strictly religious people do not indulge at all, good for them.

    Capitalism is an indulgence no different from those things. Getting money is addictive, especially when it's free money that others have earned. Like drug addicts, money-lovers completely lose their minds and morals. The fact that our entire economy is based upon this sin seems unsustainable at best.

    "So I dunno. Is this chapter woke?"

    Almost bang on. Woke "Christianity" is OLD Testament. Isaiah called Israel to be faithful to the theocracy... as do yinz.

    You're gettin there, though!!!!!

    GOOD WORK

    YAY!!! Alright! I got it!: Old Testament, Woke Christian. New Testament, regular Christian. I knew I was making progress!

    So... but now... These verses are from the New Testament...

    None of these verses are "Woke" though... Right...?

    31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

    34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

    37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

    40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

    41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

    44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

    45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

    46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

    Amen.

    myce, I think you're quite right. Capitalism is one, big, giant Ponzi scheme. I prefer the term, "Profitism". It's actually the only real state sanctioned religion in this country.

  5. by HatetheSwamp on April 9, 2026 3:31 pm

    The verses ain't woke. It's yours and your bud James Talarico's interpretation that's woke.

  6. by Navy2711 on April 9, 2026 5:12 pm

    Why couldn't God make the Bible perfectly clear, beyond misinterpretation? Was he unable to? Or did he just not give a f**k?

    Or was the Bible written by Iron Age goat herders who thought that driving a knife into their firstborn child's chest might change the weather?

  7. by Indy! on April 9, 2026 6:04 pm

    Nothing wrong with fornication.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on April 10, 2026 7:25 am

    "Was he unable to? Or did he just not give a f**k?"

    Y'know. I think that's an important question. It's an excellent question. I've been reflecting on a variation on it for about 30 years...

    ... because according to the stories the Gospels tell, Jesus taught in parables, not to make it easy to understand His truth, but to make it difficult.

    I have ended up exactly where po's woke Christianity leads, i.e., the Great Command: Love God, love your neighbor.

    It's difficult because the first step in a holy life is to love God passionately enuff to expend effort in seeking Him.

    So, po, whadaya think? You, too, Navy?
