Today, Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes responded to the latest Department of Justice's Voter Registration List and Data Memorandum of Understanding, declining to put private voter information at risk in accordance with state and federal law.
Secretary Fontes stated, “My office received correspondence dated December 12, 2025, that reiterated the prior requests from DOJ attorneys dated July 28 and August 14. As the Arizona Secretary of State, I have reviewed the proposed VRL/Data Memorandum of Understanding and have determined to decline the offer.
As I have already outlined to the DOJ, both state and federal law prohibit the release of Arizona’s unredacted voter registration list. As Arizona’s Chief Elections Officer, I am committed to complying with both state and federal law to ensure that eligible voters’ rights to register and vote are protected at all costs. Arizona voters also have important privacy rights that cannot be infringed because they choose to exercise their constitutionally protected voting rights.”
