Denmark is a sovereign nation and will chart its own path. Again, Denmark had been saying they could fulfill NATO "commitments" (to protect Denmark per se) but Greenland was a huge issue for them. The US is offering to put up the "golden dome" missile defence system, along with other military bases in the North Atlantic. THAT is what Greenland/NATO needs, because no one in the NATO countries (except the US) is willing to take that on. Because of it's location, this is good news for NATO. They don't spend a dime and get a huge bonus. Before, we'd have to go through Denmark to build any structure (not a bad thing). Now, NATO understands that they'd rather have the US there, rather than China or Russians. We're building our infrastructure there. So we don't have to do it later. Another perk to NATO is that we can keep monitoring Russian ships and subs in the North Atlantic.
