I've always liked heavy metal, but I've been listening more to harder music with harsher vocals since the election. Some people find it soothing because it matches the energy of the rage and pain inside. It makes me feel like somebody understands my feelings. Plus, honestly the goblin demon sound effects crack me up which makes me happy. There is also an appreciation for the athletic skill that it takes for people to distort their voice for an entire show. Will Ramos only does harsh vocals for his band, but he has a good clear singing voice too. Some singers switch between harsh demonic voices and beautiful clear angelic voices. I appreciate the aesthetic of the contrast and the acrobatics of people who have such range and flexibility. If you're interested, researchers have studied Will Ramos and put a camera down his throat. Another one of my favorite vocalists is Natasha Pakhalenko of Nytt Land who does mostly Shamanic/folk/country music with her husband.
