What about if someone organized a prayer vigil to take place on some certain night on the Ellipse in front of the White House. Lots of publicity beforehand. Everyone welcome.

Everyone is to group together and pray as one, combining their psychic and metaphysical energies and focusing them all upon the universal, basic human need for Donald Trump to spontaneously combust. Kind of an Abbey Hoffman wanting to levitate the Pentagon sorta thing. I don't see how this sort of thing would be breaking any laws. We get the right permits...

Did I mention that it's a candlelight prayer vigil? We could all sing, "This Little Light of Mine"...

How about we concentrate on useful activities, like voting?

  2. by HatetheSwamp on July 5, 2025 3:32 am

    po,

I'm with Rob3rt on this but,...

... study the March for Life, which, of course, achieved its goal after more than 50 years. It's a "Begin with the end in mind," thing.

The difference between that gathering and the one you envision is that the lifers were perfectly sane and came together in love.

    Y'nes'd be hating and deranged.

  3. by Navy2711 on July 5, 2025 5:38 am

Why is Rob3rt commenting on SelectSmart, when he should be out voting on something?

"How about we concentrate on useful activities, like voting?" -ROB3RT

I'm curious, ROB3RT. What is it that gives you such confidence that Trump is going to even allow any more voting?

If the polls show anything like a potential landslide for the Democrats in '26, he'll simply make up some emergency, like he always does to do whatever he wants, and he'll use it as an excuse to postpone the elections. And then he'll declare that everything is so messed up that elections just need to be canceled altogether, or something to that end.

I mean, the entire Republican party has now begun to act like there aren't going to be anymore elections. They've shitallover their constituents in ways that ensure they'll lose in their next election, if there is one. Yet they don't seem to care. Lisa Murkowski isn't acting like she'll ever need to be reelected. None of the rest of the MAGA Party who sucked so hard on Trump's dick are either. Trump doesn't giveashit that he's going back on so many promises, like not touching Social Security or Medicare and Medicaid. Like he knows that he's no longer answerable to those who might elect anymore Republicans and they just don't know it yet.

He's not even acting like this is his last term as president.

Can you even imagine that fucckingorangeasshole letting his party get swept away, giving any power to the Democrats, when they are so close to achieving the rightwing, Christian Nationalist, authoritarian dictatorship that so many Republicans have dreamed of for decades?

How about we concentrate on something that might actually make a difference by letting the Democrats know they need to offer up something more than Kente cloths and TDS? You know... like some sort of policy other than more of the same new laws concerning .000001% of the population?

ALL dictators rig or cancel elections. If I were Shitler, I would.

Love them or despise them, the masterminds of Project 2025 planned this fascist takeover very well.

ALL dictators run the government like a family business too, and we're also seeing that play out.

I'm not seeing any way they can be stopped without a lot of people getting killed.

  7. by ROB3RT on July 5, 2025 9:32 am

The electoral system is a process involves a lot of steps, from registering people to vote, selecting candidates, fundraising for those candidates, primary elections, general elections and so on. Good planning doesn't start the day before an election. It's strategic, and usually starts 1-2 years before an election.

You know Trump's secret weapon -- getting people to lose hope and give up. You think he's going to cheat, so you don't have faith in the next election, so you don't bother voting and you end up losing as a result. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. And you are all walking straight into it.

Not sure why I see the shock and sarcasm here. Voting matters. Elections are the only thing that matters.

Do you all really think holding a hippy dippy "psychic and metaphysical energies" event focused on levitating the Pentagon is the way to go? If so, prepare to lose another election.

If you want to win the next election, the first step is to stop being weird and stupid, stop supporting positions that 80 percent of Americans oppose. Find common ground within a large coalition, focus on core issues and promote candidates that support those issues.

For fuck's sake, Trump just handed the progressives, liberals and Democrats a huge club to beat the shit out of him. There's now a huge hole in the social safety net. Focus on things that matter, not this stupid shit.

  8. by Ponderer on July 5, 2025 10:00 am

ROB3RT... ROB3RT...! Of course we are going to vote, regardless of anything else we do. We have always voted. We will always vote.

As long as there is an election to vote in.

Since you in no way acknowledged my question, I will try asking you once more...

What is it that gives you such confidence
that Trump is going to even allow any more voting?

  9. by ROB3RT on July 5, 2025 10:08 am

You don't understand what a self-defeating prophecy is, do you?

If you don't believe there will be an election, you depress confidence in the electoral system, you depress motivation, and you decrease your chances of winning.

There will be an election. Democrats can defeat Republicans if they show up to vote.

  10. by Ponderer on July 5, 2025 10:30 am

"There will be an election. Democrats can defeat Republicans if they show up to vote." -ROB3RT

    *sigh*

Again... ROB3RT... What is it that gives you such confidence that Trump is going to even allow any more voting? What is it that allows you to say with so much confidence that "There will be an election"? Why in the world do you think that Trump can't or won't try to annul an election that is not likely to go his way? Are you that sure that he's going to rig it instead?

  11. by ROB3RT on July 5, 2025 10:50 am

If you already believe you are defeated, you will be defeated. Stop with the defeatism.

There will be an election. There has to be an election. It is required by law. We've had elections for nearly 250 years. We held an election in the middle of a Civil War. There is no reason to cancel or delay any election going forward. There is no reason for any court to support a move to cancel or postpone an election.

Got it? If you allow the possibility that an election can be canceled, you normalize the idea, and you increase the chance of it happening. Stop normalizing this idea.

Anyone who opposes Trump most proceed on the understanding that there will be elections in 2026 and 2028 and that we must win them.

  12. by HatetheSwamp on July 5, 2025 10:51 am

"If the polls show anything like a potential landslide for the Democrats in '26, he'll simply make up some emergency,..."

Actually, po, the polls I'm seeing indicate a rather sound Dem victory in 026, nuthin like the 65 seats GOP picked up after The ONE ramped OCare through Congress and foisted it on America.

"I mean, the entire Republican party has now begun to act like there aren't going to be anymore elections."

Here's where you're going to have to help ole pb. You know I'm stoopid. How are the GOPs acting like that?

  13. by HatetheSwamp on July 5, 2025 10:54 am

"How about we concentrate on something that might actually make a difference by letting the Democrats know they need to offer up something more than Kente cloths and TDS?"

Exactly, Indy. Every dynamic suggests that Dems will win in 026, but they are going to develop a message beyond: Trump's a piece of $#!t.

  14. by HatetheSwamp on July 5, 2025 10:57 am

"ALL dictators rig or cancel elections. If I were Shitler, I would."

    Donna,

Trump's been less authoritarian and dictatorial than Obama, by a looooooooong shot! It's just that you like what Obama was foisting on America.

How's that been working out for you, Robert? You and you're party have now elected the worst candidate in the history of politics 2 out of the last 3 elections and - if we're being real? The only reason Biden got elected is because nobody wanted Trump again and the Ds rigged the "election" against Bernie. The problem is not us - it's you.

  16. by Ponderer on July 5, 2025 12:26 pm

    Okay. Thanks, ROB3RT!

  17. by ROB3RT on July 5, 2025 12:32 pm

    Indy:

My strategy has been working out better than yours. It at least produced one winner in the last three years. When has your strategy ever produced a winner?

Your big flaw is you can't seem to understand that most Americans -- Democrat, independent and Republican -- do not want to elect a Socialist president.

The Dems might have had a decent shot last year if we didn't have a candidate who was anchored down by agreeing to a lot of really stupid BS from the left four years earlier. The really stupid extreme-left ideas include eliminating employer-based health insurance that unions fought for, requiring schools to allow males to play in female sports, advocating for prisoners to receive tax-payer funded sex change operations, pushing for reparations, defunding the police.

Apologies to Tim Walz, but average voters looked at both sides and decided the really weird people they couldn't trust were mostly on the left.

"The only reason Biden got elected is because nobody wanted Trump again and the Ds rigged the "election" against Bernie. The problem is not us - it's you."

The only reason Biden won is ballot harvesting and the diddling with the chain of custody of mail-in ballots.

"There will be an election. There has to be an election. It is required by law." - Rob3rt

    *pinches own arm*

Am I dreaming? Did I get transported to Bizarro Land or something?

I'm not saying that Trump absolutely will put a stop to elections. But jfc, "we'll have elections because they're required by law" is beyond delusional. Was Rob3rt in a coma in January 2021?

  20. by Indy! on July 6, 2025 11:46 am

The fact Robert had to play the socialist card tells you he's not dealing with reality. Bernie is a socialist like Trump is a conservative or Biden is a leftist. Robert IS the reason why the Ds keep losing. Don't know if you were around for it, Navy - but the way Robert ended up on the board was working for Hillary try to push her ass down our throats when nobody - NOBODY wanted her in 2016. His political "instincts" are mired in the failed "triangulation" crap of the past.

Now for Robert's (and Curt's) nonsense - as both of you know, I have never once pushed for socialism or any socialist policies that were any more "extreme" than policies already in place (and beloved) by Americans. Things like Social Security and Medicare. That is why the ONLY thing I've pushed is for the (worthless) Ds to start offering up better POLICIES in order to get elected. What you call "socialist" policies - because you aren't able to defend your shit candidates and even worse policies with the facts - are actually the most popular ideas in politics... universal healthcare. Taxing the rich. Lifting the cap on SSI. These are the policies I promote and they are far and away more popular than the crap we get from YOUR oligarchy.

And Robert? Biden didn't push ANY left policies. He gave us Kente cloth and trans bathroom rights NOBODY was asking for. So don't put your crap candidates crappy failed administration on my shoulders - that's YOUR failure.

  21. by Donna on July 6, 2025 8:01 pm

    Actually most Democrats preferred Hillary.

  22. by Indy! on July 6, 2025 8:05 pm

I'm sure in your circles, they did.

"It drives me crazy when I hear liberals say (Trump's) just stupid. He's not stupid. He's one of the smartest people of his generation. He now controls the United States of America. Never underestimate Donald Trump." - E. Jean Carroll

  26. by Donna on July 7, 2025 10:16 am

Btw, none of my friends liked Hillary. But I'm quite used to you and others here who often make false accusations just to get a reaction.

  27. by Indy! on July 7, 2025 10:24 am

None of your friends liked HIllary - so I guess you were just assuming "most" Democrats preferred her. Since you're assuming - I'll assume too. I'm assuming "most" Democrats voted for Hillary because they had no other choice.

  28. by Donna on July 7, 2025 10:34 am

Actually what I saud is supported by election and survey data. What data are you using to corroborate what you said?

  29. by Indy! on July 7, 2025 10:42 am

Her epic, unbelievable, historic loss to a game show host.

  30. by Donna on July 7, 2025 11:46 am

And from that you conclude that NO ONE wanted her in 2016? Keep in mind that she won the popular vote by almost 3 million.

  31. by Indy! on July 7, 2025 11:55 am

You know what? I've rethought my position and I was wrong - there was at least one person who wanted her as the Democratic candidate... Donald Trump. 🤔
